High quality material, good fit. Zip pocket.
I bought these for my husband. But honestly, they fit women pretty well too, with a much higher quality than typical women's clothes. It does have a large zippered opening for phones low on the side, but then the phone is down by your knee and klunks around when you walk. We have had several previous generations of Columbia mens pants/shorts with more effective zip pocket designs.

Good shorts that are trying to kill me.
Pros: Good, comfortable fit. Length is as pictured. Color is a little darker, but also richer, and looks very nice (I have enough kaki-colored pairs). The fabric is soft but feels strong. The zipper also seems study and like it will last. Cons: I may die putting them on. There is this pointless little side pocket that is almost cargo-esque. Worse, the way it is attached to the hem makes for a pocket or loop of fabric about where your foot travels when putting them on. My concern is, at the least, I will step on it and rip the pocket and maybe the pants. At worst, like this morning, I will get my foot caught, fall over, and split my skull on the dresser or windowsill. I think as long as I am mindful about putting them on, I should live long enough to enjoy these for many summers.

Poor quality
I have mixed emotions about these pants. When I first get them I love the fit, how breathable they are, and what mainly sold me how water resistant they are! I ordered 2 pairs of the shorts and of the pants. I used them for work (delivering heavy medical equipment to multiple locations). I was continually outside and exposed to the elements. I love in Idaho so during the summer the highs are on average in the 90's and during the winter it's cold and either raining or snowing. Both pants and shorts were breathable so that I was comfortable and not sweaty. And if it was raining or snowing it didn't matter how much rain or snow got on my pants, I could sit down, lean against something, and never had the moisture come through! In fact I would show them off to people by taking a full glass of water and dumping it on my leg and then just shaking of the remaining droplets showing the pants (or shorts) were perfectly dry. Plus, there were a few times I would get grease or some kind of sludge on the pants from machinery or cargo and NEVER got a stain! With that being said, within 4-6 months the seam in the crotch start tearing in the shorts. The pants lasted a little longer, the crotch didn't start to tear for about 8 months. I thought it was a fluke and ordered 1 replacement pair of pants and 1 replacement pair of shorts. The crotch tore on those as well. I contacted Columbia'a customer service in regards to their "Sportswear One-Year Limited Warranty". Although the customer service agents are friendly, Columbia's policy honoring their product is not. Even though the exact same issue happened to EVERY pair (6 in total) within the 1 year limited warranty time line, the tearing at the seam in the crotch of all 6 pairs was considered "standard wear and tear" and would not be covered under the warranty. I honestly loved what the product had to initially offer, however the product is not inexpensive and should last. I could understand 1 or maybe even 2 of the 6 pairs having the issue tearing issue, but every single pair indicates poor craftsmanship. Even more so if a product is poor I feel a company should stand behind thier product and offer a refund if not at least a replacement. Columbia offered a low end product at a high end price focusing only on the money they made and not honoring their customer's purchase.

Resilient cotton fabric
I have several pair because they are the best shorts I have found: Unique side pocket with flap works great for iPhone, but I found that pocket dimension can vary slightly and be tight on the phone resulting in difficulty extracting phone (only complaint..could be slightly bigger side pocket). Great cotton fabric, quality stitched and made to last like jeans. Has stain repellent quality; well worth the price.

Snug and long
They are ok. A little long. I will probably leave the tags on them in the drawer for the rest of their days on this planet

Fixed snap issue.
OK. I travel overseas and I'm exposed to pickpockets. Zipper pocket fixes that. Wife approves because they don't have pocket flaps. So far so good. I'm 6'4", 226 lbs. - non flatbelly. The snap coming loose was driving me crazy. Everything about these are PERFECT, except the snaps. Losing a little weight helped. Finally, I went to a sewing store and found a blue jean snap kit. I added a snap beside the existing snap. Works great. Problem solved. Also, I don't tuck, so the extra snap appearance is a non-issue for me.

Mostly good.........if you look before you buy.
Okay, these shorts are either a 5 star or a 1 star, depending on what you get. I have had to resort to buying them at Academy because three pair I bought online had a defectively stitched fly. The fly is permanently folded open showing the zipper. Nobody wants that. I could forgive one pair, but not three. Even at Academy, about 1 of every 3 pair on the rack is like this, it seems. So I just find one that isn't stitched wrong. Then, these are easily 5 stars - my favorite shorts. For me, perfect fit, perfect weight, perfect length. I even like the low zipper pocket (which, granted, is useless about 95% of the time - but good to have when you need it).

Good quality for the price
I've had a similar pair of Columbia shorts that have help up for almost 10 years. I wasn't expecting the quality to be as good now as before, but it's close. The stitching is good and the material, although lighter gauge, is very comfortable and seems like it will hold up well for years. Haven't experienced problems with the snaps that others have reported. Overall a good deal. Bought a few in different colors.
