DannerVicious 4.5” Composite Toe Work Boots for Men - Full-Grain Leather with Breathable Gore-Tex Lining, Speed Lace System & Non Slip Heel Outsole

I own 3 pair of Danner Vicious boots in various stages of their lives.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  This boot is light, comfortable, waterproof (until the side seal is broken). Basically it feels really comfortable. For the first week or so there is a little pressure directly above the toes 2” back from the tips. Don’t let its novelish “manmade material look” fool you. Versus a full leather boot it is more comfortable across the board. But there is no way it can last with all the glue joints. Listen, my favorite boot ever for comfort is this boot. It is rugged, protective, warm in cold weather, etc. but it can’t last more than 18-24 months when worn daily. For me that’s real good. The part that gives up the ghost is always the side of the sole pealing away allowing water to enter. Then I retire them and pay another $170 or so for another pair. Why do I tolerate the failure that to some may seem premature? Because they are the best I have ever had.

I would like to keep this concise
I would like to keep this concise, but I have to give color & context. I am a mid 40's Chef, that's overweight with hip, knee and ankle pain from sports injuries and a lifetime of working on my feet. I have wide feet and flat arches, with exaggerated width in my right foot. In short, I have a hard time finding shoes remotely suited to my lifestyle, and I usually blow right through them. After a week, I can say that these are the best shoes I've ever bought. I wear New Balance athletic shoes when having fun, and love them, but needed a slip/oil resistant work shoe. I've worn Shoes For Crews, Danskos, Bates, Red Wings and Dr Martens trying to acheive the combination of proper fit and value. I don't mind paying a premium for shoes, but they had better last. These shoes are off to a great start, and I will be sure, in all fairness, to report back after six months and a year. So far, the have been amazingly comfortable, with zero break-in. The foot bed is wide, and well cushioned. The Vibram sole and sure footed and grippy. The collar is well padded, and doesn't rub, even with shorter socks. They have relieved the chronic pain listed above without claiming to be orthotic. They look and feel well made, and at ~$150, I consider them well worth it. My only regret is that I wish that I had found out about Danner shoes 30 years ago.

Experienced defects in two pairs.
I ordered these because I wanted composite toe and goretex. They arrived and I really liked them. I ordered my normal shoe boot size and these my toes didn't touch the forward most front of the I side. Though the normal width felt slightly tight. Still I was quite happy with how they felt. About two weeks in using daily for work I noticed on one boot in the toebod there was a slight bubble protruding inward touching my toe. Over a short time this became a problem and I eventually found myself trying to push on it with my toe. Eventually it seemed to shift across the front so that I could feel it at another toe. Then the same occurred in the other boot. Ok very time this became very bad and it had become very mishapen inward pressing and rubbing in the toebox.Amazon said.contact danner. They promptly.sente a new pair. Unfortunately the same thing g started to happen with the replacement. I was really bummed.as.i think these are really.comfortable. after emails they let.me upgrade to the 6inch workman series boots. I just got those but now they are running small even though I had them send me a half size larger plus ee. So now I'm back to still wearing my 80 dollar tractor supply brand shmidt boots that I had for two years... Never got wet feet in them.and still comfy thought a swampy from toe.sweat. just a heads up on these I had defects in two pairs..thankfully they are making good and helping me get a good pair.

Brilliant Boot w/Aftermarket Insole
Use: I'm a construction project manager working on small, residential remodels. I am on my feet 10-hours a day on construction sites not just yelling and screaming at people but also 'working'. I'm gluing pipes together, digging holes, putting up framing, running wire, etc. Not just office work. I needed a boot that works.Experience with work boots: I've owned boots of all shapes and sizes from heavy duty steel-toed, thick soled monsters that tired out my quads and gave me blisters on my Achilles to lightweight "tennis shoe boots". Don't know the official classification for the last one, but boots that provide minimal protection while looking like a boot and are cushy soft all day.Price range: I was looking for a boot under $200. Obviously, there are going to be nicer boots with better performance for much more money, so my review is based upon my price target.Product experience: I've owned this boot for 10-plus months using it on a daily basis in a moderate climate (no snow), lots of days with 100-degree heat.Modifications: aftermarket insole - I needed a little bit more cushioning / padding and have not worn the boot with its original insole.Review: 4.5" Vicious is the perfect boot for my application. Very breathable and not too constricting. Break-in time was minimal and it has still held its shape and form almost a year after purchase with no signs of significant structural degradation. Boot has nicks, scratches and cuts from kicking out blocking, adjusting framing members and me being an impatient hooligan on the job site. I’ve not treated this boot kindly and it is holding up. However, synthetic material around the toe box is showing significant wear and I’m expecting I’ll need a new pair in another year. I read other reviews and have found consistent results/observations. This boot is extremely comfortable and has enough protection to meet my needs.Would I buy again?: I occasionally indulge myself and try on boots at the building supply store when I’m in there picking up parts. I wonder if there was a better boot out there for me and I made a mistake blindly buying Danners online from Amazon without trying out other pairs. I can say confidently the Vicious is the most comfortable boot I’ve put on and I have no intention of switching out when this boot dies on me. Sure, a pair of Red Wings might last me longer but they are twice as much and half as comfortable.Improvements?: Materials could be a little bit more durable but it's always a trade-off. A heartier boot won't breathe as well and will be less comfy. Also, price point would be higher.Overall: Best sub-$200 boot as long as you budget in a replacement at the 2-year mark.

I would buy 10 pair tomorrow if I found out they were being discontinued. In my 26 years of construction these are the greatest boots I’ve ever worn.

Danner Boots
Boots are acceptable but not as good as a previous pair. They do seem to improve with wearing and the traction is outstanding.

Poor Quality
Bought the boots as it seemed well reviewed.Boots were falling apart after 2 wears. The eyelets are plastic. These would not hold up what they are advertised for; a work-boot. Would not recommend.
