Easy-to-read
I recently purchased "Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods Approaches" by John Creswell and found it to be an invaluable resource for my graduate studies in research methods. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the various research designs and methods used in the social sciences, and it does an excellent job of explaining the strengths and limitations of each approach. Creswell's writing is clear and engaging, and he provides practical examples and tips throughout the book to help readers understand and apply the concepts. I also appreciated the inclusion of case studies and real-world examples, which brought the theories to life and helped me better understand how to apply the concepts in my own research. Overall, I would highly recommend "Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Methods Approaches" to anyone studying or interested in research methods in the social sciences. It's an essential resource for anyone looking to develop a strong foundation in research design.

A classic book just gets better
I have been reading Creswell's work since I was a PhD student years ago. It is still very good and very useful. Now I am using this as a text for my research methods course. Students find it just as easy to read and just as useful as I did. This latest edition has more illustrations of the various methods than previous editions. That is a strength. It is fairly basic, but that, too, is a strength - it doesn't overwhelm the student with information they are not yet ready to process. If you want depth in any of the methods, you need to consult some of the original sources that Creswell cites. For a good, usable view of the basics, this is a very good book. My only problem, and this may be just my problem, is that Creswell is by his own admission a fan of mixed methods research, so he includes a lot on mixed methods. My experience is that students in academic settings will seldom use mixed methods only because this form of research tends to be more time consuming than allowed by academic constraints. Even so, it is a very respectable way of knowing, and students ought to be familiar with it.

... I want to convey the Creswell book does a good job of introducing and providing examples of research methods
I am currently a doctorate student and I want to convey the Creswell book does a good job of introducing and providing examples of research methods, research designs and the integral parts of Qual, Quan and Mixed Methods. However, if you are looking for Philosophic views in research, only 4 types are considered, therefore, the Gutek book may provide more support in this area. I recommend the Creswell book and the 6th edition of the APA Manuel if you are considering research at the graduate level.

Simply Brilliant!
Comprehensive and clear, Creswell provides a scientifically useful and extremely well written guide to research design. This book has to be one of the most important books I have read during my course of study. If you are in a doctoral program or just thinking about one, get this book. If you are contemplating a career in research, either academic or practitioner, get this book. And if you are just trying to figure out what to book to get next for your kindle, get this book. Yes, it's that good. ADDENDUM: I wrote this review months ago. Since then I've given this book as gifts to friends. It's interesting to me that in that time the price of this book has gone steadily UP! Amazon is no fool. They would not increase the price if there was not increasing demand. As such, if you are considering buying this book, save yourself some money by buying it TODAY. Chances are later it will cost you more.

HIGHLY recommended
I'm a Criminologist and I used this book for a Grad level research methods class. Creswell is the best research methods text I have ever laid eyes on; it is clear, concise with real-world examples and application. There's nothing 'frilly' in his book-just what you need to know and the concise, to-the-point examples you need to understand the concepts. I HIGHLY recommend this book for any undergraduate or Graduate in the social sciences. It's a must-have.

Research Design by J.W. Creswell
This is a terrific instructional book written for students and experienced field researchers by JW Creswell. If you are a student with little to no understanding of choosing a research approach to investigate your topic, Creswell comes to your rescue. First, Creswell identifies the difference of each research approach: (1) quantitative research, (2) qualitative research, and (3) mixed methods research (a combination of the two). Next, Creswell discusses how these research approaches are used in the behavioral and social sciences. Last, he explains the systematic process to achieve a successful research proposal followed by a successful research study. In addition, Creswell's book is a terrific resource to field researchers who have experience in one research approach but not in the other two. Therefore, I highly recommend JW Creswell's Research Design for both inexperienced and experienced researchers!

Excellent.
This book is The research bible. I bought mine used, advertised as good condition, and it was a great bargain. Keeping it for life. I wonder if there's an ebook version, hmm... - Philo

My Favorite Research Design Book - A Definite "Go To" Resource
I have read a lot of research design books and this is one of the very best. Yes it is a bit expensive, but worth every penny. For me and my students it is a concise essential reference - a "must have" resource for students who wish to write a thesis. The first chapter on the selection of research approach and philosophy is very helpful. From that point on, Creswell takes you step by step through the process of writing a thesis or paper.
