60+fps on GTA V Cod War one and more. A beast when configured correctly.
I was really nervous about purchasing a gaming laptop due to limitations of upgrading, I have a desktop already and I really needed to upgrade to more newer specs with Windows 10. I spent a few months researching and I settled with the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop with 1660ti. 512 gigabytes and 8 gig of RAM. I would have gone for a secondary hard drive, but I don't think I'll need to as I use an external drive with no loading problems when gaming. I would recommend you download the GeForce experience from Nvidia to begin with, this will configure your graphics card so it runs your games, afterwards you can just run your games as normal. Somehow this configures the graphics card to run the games instead of the Intel graphics built in.I tested the following games:Crysis - GTA V - Gears of War Ultimate Edition - Forza Horizons - Just Cause 2- Tomb Raider Underworld - Rocket League, Fortnite, Call of Duty War one and Torchlight 2.All of them except Forza (for some unknown reason) ran at 60+ fps, mind-blowing results. All with very high or Max settings, the monitor frame rate is great, I play Fortnite competativly and really have no issues at all. The color is just as nice as any monitor I use which are mainly Dell monitors, or you can connect to a monitor or flat screen TV using HDMI or dual monitor with Thunderbolt. You have enough USB slots for your devices and the USB port on the left hand side can charge your tablet, phone or powerbank when not in use :)The keyboard lights up and you have all your laptop options on your F keys for brightness of monitor, second monitor options, volume, all the good options within reach :)You'll not get the best fps if you're in battery mode, and fps reduces at that point, it's great for watching video and casual gaming without the power supply in. Once your power cable is in then your performance goes up to normal. The power supply is 200watt which is incredible for the performance and sheer quality in the laptop.I have also downloaded GPU Z and CPU monitor as I was worried about the temperatures the laptop could get to. At full load gaming it goes to around 60-70 degrees for both GPU and CPU, again, amazing cooling which you can improve by purchasing a cooling pad. When not gaming the GPU and cpu drop to 30-40 degrees. The screen size is 15" which is a great size, any bigger and I would feel like it was too big. That's my prepherence size for gaming. I don't have any doubts over the purchase. You can always store games on to a USB Stick that you're not using or playing, there really isn't any need to add a hard drive. Write speeds are rapid nowadays for memory sticks, cards or external drives.Be sure to keep your laptop clean of junk by using cleaner and make sure to configure your graphics card in the Nvidia control panel. Remove and apps you won't need that came with the laptop. You'll be set to go. I wanted the Omen from HP but this is a phoenomanel piece of technolgy.I've also while gaming live streamed at the same time, you don't feel any performance drop, it truly does the job it's supposed to, for the price, it is well made. Remember to get GeForce Experience. One other tip would be to turn off indexing of your hard drive, this will increase the performance. That's just done by right clicking you hard drive then uncheck index mode. There is Bluetooth on this laptop and camera but I have these disabled to increase performance. The laptop does get hot in gaming and gets loud, if you wa t this laptop to feel good for gaming then purchase noise cancelling headphones. I would recommend a cooling pad for lap gaming use. You will also find that the power block for the plug does get very hot, best to have a fan near that also as you could have an issue later on.Used right this laptop will last you but it's really a flexible laptop that will offer great gaming.Any questions I'll see if I can help.

great value for money VR laptop
Reliable, powerful, light and cool. Money has been saved with the plastic case, but what they've done with it makes it still look good. Battery started with a bad standby time but seems to have improved over time as it gets conditioned.Works great for VR development and also works well with Linux, however it took some effort to get the driver to work - this device isn't officially supported to run Linux unfortunately! But I can confirm it's possible. It's worth noting that this laptop comes with a completely free and ready to use 2.5 inch storage slot. I put in the SSD from my last laptop with relative ease, although getting the back panel off is a little scary - you might need something thin and strong to pry it off as its a very tight fit.

Quiet, reliable, and doesn't burn your thighs like my old laptop!
I have waited several months so I can give this machine a fair review. I wanted a laptop that could play games. Not MMOs or enormous open-world RPGs, just games that Intel integrated graphics can't handle. This machine works great for that. I have had no problems with it except the issue others have noted of it not waking up sometimes when the lid has been closed and then opened again. To be fair, this has only happened to me when the lid was not FULLY closed, but it is annoying to have to hard boot it. I got around this by just not partially closing the lid - problem solved! I like the backlit keyboard. The keys are not too 'clicky'. Importantly for me it is reliable, quiet and light. Worth the money.

Excellent for Gaming & CAD
Purchased the 15.6 i7 model for light gaming, and CAD, CAM & FEA; it runs everything without issue.I bought this after having my previous HP laptop for 10 years, which only failed me due to the battery becoming unuseable (and no replacement available from HP). I hope the build quality of this new laptop is up to the same standard, but it certainly feels better! The backlit keyboard is excellent, and very comfortable to type with. The screen quality is fantastic. and visible even in sunlight. The onboard speakers are surprisingly loud, with great clarity (the best I've used on a PC!)The form factor overall is on the larger side, but this is of course the compromise for the excellent integrated graphics and lower working temperatures. The size has at no point bothered me.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone; at the price, it is one of the most powerful and well built machines available (if not the best).

Don't buy it
We received the laptop on the 12 of September.it worked 2 months and then had to send back to repairing. We received it back today from the service and its the same problem now. Its unbelievable. The laptop worked cca 5 minutes and now again the monitor doesnt work. For more then 1000 pounds it very disappointing. For more then 1000 pounds it worked 2 months. Ridiculous. Now we have to begin all the repair process again. Before Christmas. Its totally unacceptable.

Great laptop
Solid gaming laptop. Love everything about it, great design, stylish green back lit keyboard. Seen other reviews noting the keyboard is too brightly lit which I don’t understand as its adjustable using F keys 🤷🏻♂️ Maybe they just didn’t look very well. Have two other HP laptops fit work and impressed with all of them. This specific one I’ve been very impressed with the performance for the price. 6gb graphics has no trouble playing most games on Max settings.

Not suitable for audio production
I bought this for music production but unfortunately had to return it. The laptop had horrendously high DCP latency, meaning you cannot record real time audio without dropouts. I narrowed the cause down to the USB drivers (usbxhci.sys), but was unable to fix it. Intel, Microsoft and HP don't provide alternative USB drivers. Using modded drivers from win-raid didn't help. If you're doing anything that's latency sensitive, don't go near this laptop.

Bought it had to return it GFX card not present in the sysem devices
The laptop has a dual GFX card one on the motherboard and the nvidia one. The Nvidia card was not present in the system devices and defaulted to the mobo gxf card. Amazon was a bit slow with the refund.
