Excellent tool
I've been playing guitar and bass for almost 50 years. This product is just plain an excellent tool for figuring out bass parts and practicing bass. I recently had to learn the bass parts for a 40 minute set. The Tascam CD-BT2 made it so much easier. In my earlier days we had to learn the parts off the vinyl---which is not easy. I've seen reviews of this product which are so petty and uninformed I can't believe it. The fidelity of the unit when the song is slowed down is not as good as normal speed--but it's quite adequate and excellent for catching fast or tricky runs. The unit is also very easy to use. I've barely had to use the manual. I would advise that you purchase the power adaptor. Alkaline batteries last only about 5 hours.

Very useful, works great but lacks durability
Very useful for learning material and practicing without disturbing others. Does everything it's advertised to do. When changing keys of songs on CD more than about 4 steps it sometimes sounds like your playing with Alvin and the Chipmunks or the recording was made underwater, but it still allows you to work on fingerings for different keys. Would have given 5 stars but the first one of these I had just quit working (wouldn't recognize the disc) after 4 years. I did use if heavily, but it seems like it should last longer than that. Recommend getting the AC ppwer supply because it burns through batteries at an alarming rate.

The Tascam Bass Trainer
I wish that this had been available when I was learning as a kid. Since I never learned to read music I had to listen over and over again to albums and 45's, lifting that needle across that vinyl endlessly. This little piece of technology is great in that you can slow the piece down without changing the key. If there is a particular part of the song that you need to work on, you can make it loop over and over again until you get it. I highly recommend this product, and I give it a five star rating.

Does not play CD-R!!!!!!
Do not buy! The fact that it does not have a line in input makes this device pretty useless. Why do I say this? Because it won't play any cd I burn. So only original CDs work on this!?!?!? Who buys CDs these days? So a device that only play original cds that does not have a line in input to me is just an expensive paper weight. Stay clear of this!

Great Idea and Function but Fail on Durability
I play along with CD's. And some of the old recordings that are transfered to CD are off pitch. I use the TASCAM to correct the pitch. It does this fine. But the touch pad buttons that let you back up and repeat with out going to the beginning of the song have failed. This limits the use full ness of the unit. All of the other functions are fine and work as they are supposed to.

Tascam Bass Trainer
The Tascam Bass Trainer -I had high hopes for this little unit in being able to isolate the bass lines and easily pick out the instrument and also the opportunity to slow down the music to be able to pick out the harder or more complicated sections of a piece. I was very disappointed.Personally - I would say that you are better off not wasting your time or hard earned dollars with this product. It is very difficult to pick out the bass lines in any music. In fact, pretty much the same as listening to your iPod or the radio, CD, etc. You're no better off. This unit did nothing to isolate the bass instrument. Yes it does slow down the music, but the quality is less than stellar even on that feature. I have used a guitar one before that was part of a Digitech 300 pedal unit, and while it wasn't fantastic - it was much easier to figure out guitar parts using that.If you have $150 bucks to throw away - don't let my review stop you from purchasing this unit...However, if you're serious about learning or getting better by figuring out other music... then there has to be a better option than this. I just don't know what it is yet...I returned mine 2 days after getting it and trying it with a multitude of different styles and eras of music. I still came to the same conclusion that this unit was by no means worth the money it cost.Buyer Beware. And good luck.
