What’s the difference between cat8 and cat7?

IGNORE any answer claiming "Cat 8 gives a better stream for gamers". No, no, no, no, and no. If you want Cat8, go for it, but keep in mind: 1. This is very likely not Cat 8 anyway, because 26awg is too thin for even Cat 7. And anyone testing with a (expensive) FLUKE had better have two of them (one on each side) or I'm not listening. 2. For gaming, the bottleneck is your service from home/office to the ISP, followed by what the game server will allow (no where NEAR 10Gbps, let alone 20 or 40), and then followed by the traffic in between. You simply cannot undo these things. 3. cat8 is primarily for inter-server traffic, and office network trunks. 4. You're still going to need router and switch equipment rated for these top speeds. 5. Do you require a drain wire to prevent the "antenna effect" that you can get with Cat7? 6. There is something called "Confirmation Bias". That is what non-technical users are employing when they are convinced that things magically improved, even if they admit only slightly. It simply did not.

Is cat8 fully backward compatible? Most of my stuff really only needs cat5(e), but I figure I should future-proof my home.

I was told I needed CAT 5 but i also was thinking of future and went with CAT 8. Works well!
