Wrong TPI
Frustrating! My pool filter is about 20 years old and the plastic pipe this piece is supposed to screw into had a different thread size. Somewhere along the line they changed the thread size so you have to buy the whole part the filters sit on if this attachment parts breaks. This consists of the base which holds the four filters, the drain pipe and this conectour piece. They do not sell any of them separately.

Happy this specialty part was so easily accessible
When I broke this part at my pool filter and couldn’t find it anywhere around town, I was pleased to easily find it on Amazon. It was unmistakably the right part because the same number was stamped on my old one that was visible in the photos on Amazon. It only took a couple days to ship, and I was able to install the part a few hours after receiving it. All fixed!

Pentair Part 178575
My pool is about 15 years old and the original bottom bulkhead parts had "fine threads" where it attached to the inside piece in the filter assembly. However when I see the picture of this part posted on the internet I see the back end thread on this parts look like the original part I removed having no idea this part had changed. Pentair originally made this part with fine threads and later change it to a coarse thread and that's the only difference. With all that said, Pentair need to say that this part was changed over the years and offer a solution. I waited for this fitting about a week only to find out that it did not fit the piece inside the filter assembly. I was able to modify this part from Pentair to make it fit, something I should not have had to do.

fine thread vs coarse thread
As many have noted, this fitting has coarse threads whereas older filters have fine threads. I contacted Pentair and it seems they no longer stock the fine thread fittings so now you have to buy the entire male and female assembly for $97. Bummer.
