Whirlpool W10206288 Valve Burner

I tried calling the manufacturer for an authorized repair person for a Kitchen Aid double gas range knob that would not turn, but no one answers the phone anymore in the aftermath of the pandemic. Finally, I had to rely on a local home repair matching service. The repair person identified the right part, which I ordered from Amazon.com. However, when he changed the part and finally turned on the knob, not only did flames come out of the burner but all around the top of the stove. I immediately turned it off and called the gas company, whose technician told me the repair might have caused an electrical fire within the stove, because the stove top was hot to touch even though nothing was turned on. It could have started a fire, an explosion, and/or injury or loss of life. At the end, I had to buy a new gas range and haul away the old one. I am grateful that no harm came to me or my house. Lesson is to only use an authorized repair person to fix your gas range knob. Never do it yourself.

Perfect replacement

Just what I needed. Poor design on these from Whirlpool but at least it's an easy fix. Every other year a controller seizes.

Getting the existing part out was trickier than getting this part in, but it was all relatively easy for the DIYer...There were more expensive ones available but I can't imagine thy are physically any different, and definitely no different in function. Super fast shipping and way better than a multi-hundred dollar repair bill. Only took 45 minutes or so to complete the repair and less than 5 minutes were spent swapping the part out - took me a while to figure out how to access it. Great experience...!

I've had to buy a number of these to replace gas valves on my Kitchen Aid stove when they get stuck. I believe this happens due to the open channel on the shaft that conducts cooking splash or cleaning fluids to flow down into the valve itself. If the open channel was facing down, I don't think this would happen but it faces up by design. I am now modifying these to seal the shaft end just below the knob so that liquids can no longer flow down into the valve. This is working so far but its been very expensive thus far.

Original whirlpool parts . I've had all my valves replaced under the warranty three times in a year . After the warranty expired . Called whirlpool out again to see how much will it cast to fix it ($300 pluse parts) . It's not that difficult to replace it . We'll see how long this one will last .
