Q: Approx. How many cloves of garlic fit in the presser at once?

The crushing basket is very small. I find I have to cut any decent sized clove in half. That said, it does a great job of crushing the garlic to very, very small pieces, e.g. what you want for great garlic butter. It’s also super sturdy.

Q: Can you take it apart for cleaning?

I’m sure you can, but with the simple design you can just clean the entire thing. I didn’t take apart, just soaked it in warm soapy water and it was clean.
