Excellent color, lasting, and easy clean up!
Did the bottom section of my hair with the blue. The top layer is blood red and middle layer is purple from blending the two. The blue color came out exactly as expected and hasn't faded after several weeks.I've been doing unnatural colors for over eight years now and would like to clear up a few bad reviews. Pre-bleaching is a part of the process. If you don't bleach, don't complain about the product for your choice not to. If you want the color to last, wait a day after bleaching so it's completely inactive, and keep the color on for at least a few hours. The more you wash your hair (especially shampoo), swim (especially in water with chemicals), and even extended exposure to the sun will affect the rate it fades. I can usually keep good color for at least a month. Even when they fade, the way I color blend just looks like it's supposed to be pastel colors. I don't know what others are talking about hard clean up. Out of all the brands I've used this is hands down the easiest to clean from my skin, surfaces, and especially the tub. So far I'm loving this brand!

Faded faster than expected....
I was pretty bummed that blue mayhem faded like it did. I bleached my tips and did parts of my hair atomic pink and others blue mayhem. The atomic pink has not faded at all in two months and I love it! The blue mayhem has required several touch ups that don't hardly last a week. I know blue is a hard color to keep bright and vibrant, but with the Special Effects reputation and my success with atomic pink, I had higher hopes for this color. I'll probably not buy it again and use a bright purple instead.

Blue Mayhem - Back to my roots.
Recently I have been on a journey to find a better hair dye than Special Effects.I have been using Special Effects for 13 years, I thought it might be worth some investigation. I have found that I really started out with the best (Special Effects) and it perhaps spoiled me into expecting a lot out of other dyes.Special Effects tends to "heal" some of the damage I do when bleaching. I notice my hair feeling smoother after using it post bleach. Because it is a deposit dye, the longer you leave it in, the better it will soak into your hair shaft. After leaving it in 6 hours and washing it out, it hardly bled.I think this is what I was looking for- a way not to have my bathroom look like I murdered a care bear once a month or so. Leaving it in a long time, rinsing it out with cool water and following up with Olaplex no.2 really has increased the longevity and brightness, and cut down on the bleeding.I am following up once a week with Olaplex no. 3 for overall health of my hair and it's been nothing but positive.Give this a shot if you are looking to dye your hair fun colors that remain vivid and healthy.

Great dye, great color
Practicalities: this didn't transfer to my sheets or towels. The formula is even. Like all Special Effects dyes I've tried, it lasts better than Manic Panic, etc. Color: I loved this color. I came to it via pale pastel pink hair (Special Effects Atomic Pink diluted with lots of conditioner) that I let fade until it was a blondish-pink. I then put this blue, undiluted, over it. One bottle was plenty for my head of thick shoulder-length hair. First photo is the color when fresh — a really bright, vibrant blue. It popped cerulean in the sunlight, looked royal blue in low light, and girls asked about it on the subway. That was November. I mixed maybe 2 tablespoons of the dye with conditioner, which lasted until New Year's Eve, but otherwise did no upkeep. By late January (second photo) the blue had faded to lavender with pinkish ends (the old pink/bleach undertone coming through I guess). The underlayer was still a darker purplish blue. I don't have the time to be constantly fussing with my hair color (much respect to those who do) so how a color fades matters to me. This shade gets top marks.

Fades really quickly.
Fades super fast, worse than manic panic. Every wash like half of it came out even using cold water and color safe shampoo, didn’t even last a week. Other people have recommended me ion and arctic fox, so thats what I’m going to try next.

You have to leave it in overnight
Great dye IF you leave it in overnight. The first time I tried it I left it in for an hour, when I rinsed my hair it all washed out. I used the rest of the bottle (about half) and left it in overnight. So far it has stayed. My advice is get a pillow case and sheets your willing to have stained and leave it in overnight.Side note, the purple is Artic Fox.

Blue is my favorite hair color and this color looks very nice
Blue is my favorite hair color and this color looks very nice. I can only say how long this lasts when diluted with about 4 parts conditioner and one part color. It lasts about 2 washes for me and then it turns to straight-up purple. I have bleached hair and I'm trying to train my hair to be less oily, so I only wash once or twice a week. I color my tips and don't shampoo the tips themselves. Every time I wash my hair I wash it twice with a sulfate-free shampoo, so I'm thinking washing twice makes this come out quicker. I love the color and I like the way it fades to purple rather than swamp green. It does fade quickly, but that's with diluted color so I can't blame the product itself. Overall I like this hair dye.

It was beautiful. I did both my daughters' hair in segments ...
It was beautiful. I did both my daughters' hair in segments of Fishbowl, Blue Mayhem and Atomic Pink on July 30th . Now, it is September 13th and just the pink is still in and going strong. I think it might grow out before washing out. One daughter went swimming in a pool two weeks later and the Fishbowl washed out after 2 days in the pool. The Blue Mayhem turned a silvery blue and the Atomic Pink was about 1/4 to 1/2 faded. My other daughter was more protective of her color and washed as little as possible. Still, the Fishbowl was gone by the first day of school on August 22nd. The Blue Mayhem was still quite vibrant as well as the Atomic Pink.I did bleach the parts a day ahead of coloring Using the Manic Panic Bleach, Flash Lightning.
