This is a pretty simple product, that only really serves one function. I am using it for homebrewing, to put the probe of my temperature controller safely into our fermentation bucket. Making 5-gallon batches in a 5-gallon bucket, the length of this thermowell is very helpful to make sure that the probe touches the liquid.So far, it seems to be doing this very well and we get seemingly accurate readings!As others have noticed (and the reason I knocked off one star), the actual thread on the top of the thermowell is not really long enough to fit the entire securing nut, when you account for the gaskets and the material that the thermowell is poking through.Since an absolutely perfect seal is not necessary (because no water touches the attachment end of the thermowell) I decided to simply not use one of the gaskets. But for a perfect air/watertight seal, you may consider looking at other products.

If you're looking to Incorporate a thermowell into the lid of a plastic fermenting bucket look no further.Get yourself a 3/4” hole driving bit and you’ll be in business. The gaskets and threaded nut ensure a great seal. I purchased the 200mm length which is more than long enough for both my 6.5 gallon wider diameter bucket and my 5 gallon tall, skinny bucket. This also worked perfectly for my 5 gallon glass carboy. Buy a longer length if you’re worried about contact with wort.I use this with a warming sleeve connected to a temperature probe control and its amazingly effective. If you’re a home brewer, you know all too well there are enough variables you can’t control; temperature doesn’t have to be one of them!Purchase with confidence; this product does what it says it will do, which is rare these days!

This item is well made and my temperature probe fits perfectly, but I couldn't get it to stop leaking. The retaining nut is flat with no groove for the O-ring; when the nut is tightened, the O-ring is crushed and doesn't seal properly. I had a spare grooved nut which solved the problem with one of the two items that I ordered.

This is typical of made-up weldless fittings; does not have an integral O-ring groove in the outside part. This means that the O-ring is supposed to squeeze into the threads. I could not make it seal. I happened to have 1.13 ID X .052 thick stainless washer (McMaster) and another thin washer that fit close to the male thread. Outside hex, then thin washer, then O-ring with 1.13 washer outside of it to keep it from extruding outward, then pot, then nut inside without o-ring. It works, but not that great. And ID of thermowell is actually too big for my sensor so I had to fill it with thermal grease. But general build quality is good.

I like that the unit was able to thread right in without issue. I wish I had bought this a year ago.

Seems to be an excellent product. It would be nice if other sizes were stocked in the USA. Thank you for the explanation of the product.

I bought several of these to use on sea water. I tried 2. They both wound up leaking through the well itself within a couple days. I could see pits on the well close to the threads. Must be low grade stainless steel

Easy installation and no welding.
