Murder Mystery Party - Lethal Luau

I bought this Murder Mystery for a church group gathering and it was a blast! The box contained everything we needed for the evening. It has invitations, name plates, a planning guide and character booklets. The planning guide was invaluable to me as hostess and helped with recipes and a schedule of events. You can play the game with a full dinner, a luncheon menu or even with snacks. As far as the guests, they were given invitations that provided costume suggestions and they all came accordingly, which made the evening all the more fun and believable. There is also a CD that you play at different times during the game to help you keep up with what has been revealed about the characters. I will say that I put in some extra work to pull off our party, though you don't have to if you want to do it on a small budget. We went all out with decorations from a local party store, finding some Hawaiian music and I even provided leaflets with Hawaiian on them for the guests to practice the language. Lethal Luau is a good game to center your party around and then imagine what you can do beyond it to provide the atmosphere of the story. We even reenacted the murder at the beginnig!As to the plot itself, it was excellently done. I hadn't put all the clues together myself, but one of our members came out with the solution exactly. Everyone else agreed and it turned out that through listening closely and paying attention to clues, the murder is one that can be solved.Everyone had a good, fun time! We enjoyed playing the parts, learning about Hawaii through the characters and CD and most of all playing a game that brought us all together for a good evening with friends.

Have entertained dinner guests in the past with a Murder Mystery night. Great fun especially when you invite guests who really get into their character. Haven't opened this game up yet. We're waiting to "Christen" our new lanai with a Mystery Dinner Party. I know the friends I'll invite will have a lot of fun and shall get "into the moment" of it all.

We have done about half a dozen mystery dinners with friends and we always have a fun time. Lethal Luau was a fun summer choice. The costumes and decorations are easy to put together. We never add the 7th and 8th optional characters because they really don't have much of a part. If you want to add them, I suggest the host couple taking those parts as to not leave invited guests feeling left out.While I didn't use the menu recipes, It did help me in planning my own menu. The party guide gives you a variety of choices for menus and recipes. The script of these is always quite corny, but that makes it fun. We appreciate the fact that parts of the dialogue are scripted, but the questioning/accusing sections are left for the players to ad-lib.Lethal Luau will provide a fun way to spend an evening with friends.

This was a fun play to do on our snowy night. You can have a blast decorating in the luau theme. I must say I was really disappointed in the parts for the 2 extra guests. I knew they wouldn't be suspects, but I wasn't aware they didn't even have any lines! If you do this, keep it to six. I also enjoyed A Taste of Wine and Murder much more than this one. The kit did include everything and I liked the idea of placecards for the characters at the dinner table. You can also order some Chinese Food - we did the sweet & sour - which seemed to have the luau theme in case you don't want to cook.

The product I received is defective. Unfortunately, i didn’t realize this until we tried to play out the mystery game 2 months after the original purchase. This was very disappointing, especially since the game was so expensive. At some point this game was modified from 6 players to eight players but the character scripts are mismatched from the two game versions in the box.

OK, so I'm a dinner murder mystery fan--this one is nice because it includes a CD to play throughout the game, which is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. University Games does a great job with the invitations, prep booklet, books for suspects, background info on the middle ages beginnings of murder mystery games, etc. And you and your lucky guests get to dress up in grass skirts, coconut bras (if you're modest like us, you can wear the grass skirts and coconuts over other clothes), flower leis, and all that jazz. And have a summer cookout meal to boot!

For New Year's Eve we usually buy a used How To Host A Murder game. We have a great time, invite different people every time. This year I found the Murder Mystery Game and we loved it! Even brand new it was cheaper than the How To Host A Murder and the game was faster by almost two hours! It did leave us with two hours left before midnight that we weren't expecting, but the game didn't last so long that we lost interest and just wanted to get it over with. Great purchase!

The dialogue for the characters doesn’t match in the booklets. Some is written in 3rd party dialog and in different booklets some characters are completely missing from dialogue and questioning scenarios. We had to compare booklets to try and keep the story line going because it the story wasn’t matching at all.

LOVED this Luau. Had a great time with friends, dressing up and having dinner. Recipes were a nice added touch. Such a fun night. Enjoy this one!
