Good Value
My Shark Rotator Professional (UV560) was delivered just last night. I was eager to compare it with my near ancient Miele Plus, an old faithful I have been urged not to trade in. It didn’t take much to assemble the Shark, and I was delighted to test it out.StairsOne of the first things I did was to clean the carpeted stairs. I had been especially looking forward to this experience. The Shark did nicely on the stairs and the canister was lightweight and easy to handle. The Miele power tool also does well on stairs, but you must simultaneously balance the tool and the heavy canister. In addition, the Miele power tool is larger than the Shark’s stair tool, which gets into corners more easily.Hardwood and tile floorsWhen put in hardwood/tile mode, the Shark is not self-propelling. I was a little disconcerted (and spoiled by my Miele) at the effort it took to push it back and forth. But it did an excellent job on the back porch, which I had been saving as a test. I preferred the carpet mode, which requires engaging the “brush roll” and propels the head forward.Carpet and area rugsOn the back porch, the Shark did an excellent job on the water hog mats, surprisingly better than the Miele power tool. And I didn’t have a problem with spider webs. The Miele is wont to get clogged if you pick up too many webs, requiring you to clean out the power wand. Not so with the Shark.I was not as enamored with the Shark, however, when using it on my wall-to-wall. It can’t go deeply under the beds and other furniture, the vacuuming tool having too high a profile. And it is not nearly as maneuverable as the Miele wand with the power head attachment. Although the Shark is self-propelled when moving forward, it takes some effort to pull it back, as noted above. Not so with the Miele.Cleaning the machineCleaning the Shark was a cinch. Press a button and presto: everything drops into your garbage bag. That said, I would use a new garbage bag or one that’s only half full. You don’t want the dirt to runneth over. Fortunately it’s summertime, so I took the canister outside to empty it. Not sure what I will do in the winter. But I wouldn’t leave the dirt in the canister for any amount of time. Dampness might make it tougher to clean and it might begin to smell musty.Cleaning the Miele is also a no-brainer. Just change the bag and the filters from time to time. But it sometimes has a musty smell. I was particularly happy to have no musty smell with the Shark, but then it’s still brand new. I change the bag on the Miele every single time I vacuum to avoid that vacuum cleaner smell. Changing the bag on the Miele runs into a bit of change. Thus far, the Shark system seems to have eliminated that problem. We’ll see what happens with continued use. It’s difficult to tell whether the Shark or the Miele picks up more or less dirt. After all, the Miele has a concealed bag. What the Shark pulls up is there for all the world to see. The Miele also has 3 filters that require regular replacement. The jury is still out on the Shark filters. After cleaning only 3 rooms, the Shark dust cup is looking mighty bad. We are instructed to clean it and the felt filters every 3 months. I doubt my machine will be able to go that long. I also wonder how long it will be before I need to replace any of these filters.AccessoriesThe Miele has all the usual: the dusting brush, furniture brush, and crevice tool, all of which I will continue to use on the 2-dog window seat because the Miele hose is longer than the Shark’s. Any Miele attachment thus has greater reach. To tell you the truth, I can leave the Miele at the bottom of the stairwell and vacuum up to half of the stairs by extending the wand.I particularly liked the Shark’s multi-angle dusting brush, which I used on my computer keyboard. Nice. I will probably use it to dust books and bookshelves, but will probably avoid using it on some furniture to avoid fine scratches. As noted previously, I used the power brush on the carpeted stairs. Also nice.In the interest of doing a complete review, I attached the Dust-Away hard floor tool. It did a decent job. I like the idea of washable pads, but I do have a similar microfiber dust broom (nonelectric) of which I am fond. I doubt that I will pull out the Shark for this option again. Although the Dust-Away head is flexible, it is not as flexible as my aluminum microfiber broom nor is the profile low enough to get under my stove. I simply don’t see the need for a power tool when using a microfiber cloth. My microfiber broom has an aluminum handle and falls nearly flat onto the floor and is thus able to get under any piece of furniture.Variable height settingsAlthough the Miele power tool adjusts to different heights, I have it set at one height. The Shark has no variable settings, but seems to work quite well on hard surfaces or carpets of varying density.Suction controlBoth the Miele and the Shark offer variable suction control. This is important when cleaning furniture, but I leave it on maximum suction for floors. Maximum also worked with the Shark on my area rugs.I will continue to use the Miele for furniture (with lessened suction), as the hose and wand are longer (and can be extended) and are easier to maneuver.Extra long cordThe Shark wins out here, but the Miele has a retractable system that I prefer. I am not fond of having to wind the cord around two plastic cord hooks, which represent possibly other parts to replace.ValueI will be using the Shark for the 3-season porch and the basement, but will continue using the Miele for the main house. Glad I have a machine I can relegate to selected areas, such as the stairs (the Shark). Glad I have a machine that has great suction and maneuvers easily under the beds and furniture (the Miele). Glad I have a high-quality aluminum microfiber broom for dusting hardwood floors and getting under tight areas, such as stoves and bookshelves. If you are starting out and don’t already have an excellent vacuum cleaner and a high-quality microfiber broom, purchase the Shark. If your current vacuum is on the fritz and you’re seeking to replace it, purchase the Shark. My Miele was more than twice the price and my wonderful microfiber broom was only $55 less than the Shark.

Great vacuum at a great price.
Great Vacuum!! I am a little cautious about buying things like this online. The vacuum was delivered quickly however a little dented. After trying it on the carpet I was very pleased. DO NOT USE ON SHAG CARPETING. The vacuum is very strong and literally pulls the rug fibers up as it cleans with the brush on.The Shark Rotator Professional does not detach to get under tables or beds with ease however it does detach and comes with an attachment for hardwood floors which is what I needed anyway. It is very light to handle and my wife loves it also. I see that the hose is a bit flimsy but if I take care when handling it should not pose a problem, just be careful with it. As long as nothing breaks on it and the brush keeps working I will be very happy with it.The only down side I can see with the vacuum is the cord. You have to unravel the entire cord in order to detach the unit and there is no auto retract for it. The cord is very long and I can do almost my whole apartment from the same outlet which makes up for the cord getting in the way at times. A great buy if you can get it for under $200 as it is much more expensive in stores.

Pretty great vacuum!
I read many reviews before deciding on this Shark, to replace my several years old, wobbling, Kenmore Progressive. My husband had gifted me with the pretty cheap Shark - he wanted me to have something for quick jobs. Quick it is, good it's not. And LOUD! Anyway, so far I am very impressed with my new vacuum. I really believe that it picks up more than my Progressive did when it was brand new. I'm not the best housekeeper in the world, nor the worst, but I emptied the bin more times than I would like to admit. Boy did it vacuum well! It's true that the vac can only accommodate 2 tools, so you have to store the extras elsewhere, but I think you'll figure out which 2 are most useful pretty quick. I think after I've used it a couple more times, I will be a pro at detaching and reattaching everything. At about 25#'s, it's fairly heavy, and detaching the floor head to walk around with the canister doesn't make much difference. The only thing I would like is a foot release to unlock it from it's upright position - then it would be pretty perfect.

Best Value for the Money! Great vacuum at a great price!
All I can say is WOW. I thought nothing would ever sway me away from my Dyson! I just bought this vacuum and I am really impressed! I had a Dyson for 10 years and it was also impressive but when I went to replace it found that the Dyson prices were prohibitive and the quality of the plastic seemed greatly diminished. I just could not see spending money on something that felt like it would break. Conversely (and happily) the Shark is sturdy and powerful. I just vacuumed downstairs and it picked up a ton of pet hair and dust, and filled the canister. Even full, the vacuum maintained its suction power. I really love it and I am very happy with the purchase. I researched the shark models and for the money this one seemed like the best value for the money. My assumption was that as the model numbers go up, so does the power of suction, tools, attachments or functions. I also tried to scrutinize which model was best for pet hair. It is possible that they are all good for pet hair but this one seemed to mention it more. This is a well built, attractive and powerful vacuum that is at a reasonable price point. Purchase with confidence!
