Great unit for a great price
Updated on 06-22-15ProsCools extremely fastLow energy usage (700 watts)3 fan settings from quiet to somewhat loud I have yet to use fan speed 3, mostly use 1 and 2. Update, used 3, it's loud but not neededSize large enough to have decent separation between evaporator and condenserUpdate 07-20-17Have had this unit for 4 full years and it still works like a champ cools my room off rapidly and is very easy to move around. Every Summer I put it in and every fall I take it out and it has done a wonderful job. it is a tad bit noisy but that might be due to the very old house window that it is installed in. Highly recommended unitUnit can be installed by one person but you have to do a little prep work first1. install side curtains2. install sticky foam onto window bottom after cleaning the window bottom3. place unit in window4. secure curtain to window5. install window stop6. place foam strip between window panesto prevent unit from being lifted out of window installed 2 L brackets- one on each side where the bottom screw holds the front cover on. Remove screen and then install bracket and then reinstall screw. when unit is in place install screw into window sill holding bracket in place. Also, even though the manual does not mention it, as with all window or portable units, you should let it sit for at least an hour before using it. this allows for the refrigerant to properly settle in the system. It will last longer if you do this.consdoes not display ambient tempUpdate: Unit still working extremely well, still pretty quiet. can buzz if filter is not seated all the way.

Very disappointed - SO LOUD - do not buy for a bedroom!
I purchased two air conditioners this summer - one for the living room and bedroom. For the bedroom I bought this one, 8,000 BTU, because it would only be cooling a small space. For the living room, I bought a 10,000 BTU but went with a different model (Frigidaire) just because the price was a bit lower. Both of the air conditioners are energy star, and the only real difference (other than brand) is the size and BTU. I know that all air conditioners make some noise, especially when turning on and shutting off, but in comparison to our much larger Frigidaire, this one is so loud - to the point that it wakes me up in the middle of the night. Also, after having this air conditioner for about four months, it seems like it's getting even louder. We have washed out the filter each time the light turns on indicating that it needs to be cleaned, but the fan, the shutting off/turning on still makes so much noise. Having known what I now know, i would have gone with the Frigidaire in this size. The only reason I am not giving this one star is because it does a decent job of cooling the space.

"LG Did a Good Job On This A/C Window Unit!"
This unit does a great job. The fan speeds (3) are adequate, and control pad and remote controlwork flawlessly. The highest speed ( air flow ) is a little loud, but hey!...it's a w i n d o w mounted unit. The cfm and velocity is very forceful.I need that during the peak heat during the day, to cool my kitchen. The Energy Save Mode works so that it shuts down completely and remains Idle. Every three minutes though, the fan is energized to sample the temperature of the air in the space that in turn, is drawn across the return air temperature sensor. If the temperature is above the temperature setting, the unit will energize the cooling and compressor, to again satisfy the setpoint.I just wish, the sampling could have been done with a small aspirator style miniature fan instead; and just enough to sample the air temperature in the room.Or... written into program, to extend the sampling time after the every 3 minute samples the temperature for like i.e. 12 times, to now i. e. every 15 minutes as a sampling timing. It's not the annoying factor of the fan cycling every three minutes, it's the use of electricity that could eliminated to make this unit an even greater energy Star Savings. The fan came on approx. 23 times already as I sit here writing this review.Don't expect to direct the air throw UP / DOWN very much. We tried to direct the air throw up toward the ceiling so that #1, the cool air would drop from the ceiling downward. Then #2...We tried to eliminate the air throw from blowing across the room; blowing too low and across the island where we sit and eat sometimes. Great if you are having cold salad or food to eat. My husband designed and added an external air scoop, so we solved that issue in our respect, and it works perfectly now. .... The side to side air flow adjustment works fine.Generally.... the unit still deserves five stars for what it does. The air filter is easy to remove and clean, and is made firmly. The install was easy, and the casing / cabinet is painted well, and is fairly strong. LG did a good job on this A/C unit.
