These spurs are great. You can use the big rubber feet or remove them to expose the spikes, just like the original spurs that came on my original-owner 1975 Ludwigs. I have 24" double-bass drums. It is interesting that these new spurs themselves (curved, square rods) are an exact match in design but are significantly thicker than what Ludwig used back in the 70's. Also, the rubber feet are much beefier. In fact, my initial impression in opening the package was that I would have drill out the holes a little in the bass drum shell for the bigger rods to slip through, but with a little determination that was not necessary. The reason I needed new spurs is that the wing bolt on one had stripped out the threads in the metal casting and I could no longer tighten that spur. I wish I would have replaced these spurs as soon as the beefier ones were available. Absolutely superior upgrade. In fact, when I now look at the original spurs from 1975 it is plain that while they managed to do an adequate job all these years, they are in fact pretty puny and smaller than they should have been. It's no wonder Ludwig increased the scale of them. I am ecstatic about this upgrade and for my fabulous vintage Ludwig kit. I'll keep the old spurs in a box for posterity but these new spurs look great, work great, and are a 100% WIN!

Well, these are not as light as I thought when I bought it, and they don't have a sharp metal to help the bassdrum stays rigid on a rug, let's say. If you're buying this one to make something close to a Ludwig drum, ok then, but other than that, there are better options out there

I had to replace the spurs on my 1976 Ludwig black smoke Vistalite bass drum which were 5/16 curved spurs. I decided to upgrade to the 1/2 inch and found them very easy to install and I LOVE the look of them and they are very sturdy. The drum never budges. Thanks Amazon!!
