Useful when all else fails
I tested this out on some old raspberry pi's. Works fine. Most of my devices have some other way to connect. If I truly need this device, I will wire it up again.

Compatible with Linux
Works well as a low-cost alternative to an FTDI cable. I like the simplicity of just having RX/TX/GND. Worked immediately under Linux creating /dev/ttyUSB<n>. I only wish the RX/TX wires were labelled.

Works Fine, Pinout is Correct
No drivers needed to install for me on Windows 10 Pro, all was automatic. The reviews that claim their Tx and Rx are swapped most likely don't realize that they are supposed to be crossed when connecting. Tx wire should connect to Rx pin and vice versa. This is standard.

Reliable at 115200 baud between RPi and MacOS/Linux/Windows
No driver required under Mac OS and Ubuntu. On Windows 10 I needed to download and install the FTDI VCP Driver.Build seems okay for an environment where the computer/device are mostly sitting untouched, but plastic housing and thin wires may not hold up to frequent plugging/unplugging or flexing.Works well for serial booting/debugging bare-metal Raspberry Pi with GDB, which does not need RTS/CTS. Reliable at the default speed of 115200 (haven't tried other baud rates).Remember to connect RXD <- TXD and vice-versa. For the RPi that is Black = 6 (Gnd), Green = 8 (RXD <- TXD), White = 10 (TXD -> RXD).

Doesn't work with megasquirt or microsquirt
Purchased this because it was recommended by Amazon, was hoping to use it to replace the serial cable of my Microsquirt. Unfortunately it doesn't work despite having the latest driver, correct baud rate, just garbage is sent on the receive. When checking voltage between Rx and ground I get 3.3v. on other USB serial adapters there is no voltage. Not sure what the deal is.

Works for CASIO 9000G series calculators
I got this cable for connecting old CASIO calculators to a computer. I also bought a 2.5mm stereo connector and soldered to the cable. I tested the cable with two models of calculators: CFX-9800G and CFX-9850GB+. Both worked well. I found it difficult to obtain the original CASIO link cable and information on how it works scarce. Here is what I think might be important to use it. First, make sure the pins are soldered correctly. For the 2.5mm connector, the tip is receiving line and the ring sending line. Test first and then solder. I used a Window 7 laptop with FA-124 software. There is no need to install extra drivers. CFX-9800G needed to set the parity to NONE on the calculator. I also tried FA-121 on Windows 98SE. For sending the screen capture of a tri-color calculator, it needed to set the mode to Monochrome. Windows 7 with FA-124 is recommended. Other OSs may have driver issues.

Decent cable: beware of quality control
I was able to get this cable working, but I'm taking two stars off for lack of QA. As it turns out, my cable had Tx and Rx reversed inside the USB shell. I was able to determine this because it didn't work when connected as per the documentation. Black is Gnd, White is Tx, and Green is Rx. When I connected the White and Green wires together (off of the motherboard using a short bit of wire) I was able to see typed characters in my Linux Terminal window. Reconnecting to the board, no characters. Reversing White and Green, now it works. It's not worth the effort to send it back, and of course, there's no guarantee that a new cable wouldn't have the same problem. I hope this helps anyone who may have a similar problem. It's working for me know in my application.

Perfect for wiring up a 3d printer to a pi
This was perfect for running Klipper on my 3d printer. It works exactly as expected, nice long cable, and the USB plug doesn't interfere with the other plugs. Everything I could ask for.
