Like most of the reviewers, we just had our roof replaced and we were in "Nail-City" (including 4" screws). The contractor did do a pretty good job but after running this magnet rake over the driveway and paver blocks all I can say is OMG! It was awesome running the rake and hearing the "click-click-click" of everything metal being picked up by the magnet! Amazing. It's a very goof feature to be able to adjust the height. I did set it on the highest and wondered if it would be effective but it certainly was. The quality of the handle is a little suspect as it moves around in its setting and gives you a "cheap" feel to it. The magnet and housing is quality. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to keep their floors free of metal items - a very good workshop clean up tool as well. Great investment - saves tires and nails in your boots or sneakers and maybe a trip to your Doctor.

LOVEEEEE!! We have an older home, and after every big storm I run this through the yard. The amount of RUSTY OLD NAILS this thing finds is INSANE. I've found several right where my children were actively playing. It takes just a few minutes and gives me so much peace of mind. Every parent with kids who play outside needs one of these!

Probably works perfect on even ground. We were trying to clean up after having our roof replaced and nails were blown into the grass and landscaping. If the ground was uneven it would either jam up or scrape the nails off the magnet so it took a look of going back over the same areas. Otherwise easy to put together and effective.

This tool has been a godsend. Had a new roof installed and it is inevitable that nails will be left in the yard. I had several magnets on sticks (with and without wheels) that I was using. Being that the widest was only 1 foot, it meant that you could not cover a lot of ground very quickly. The two foot width was perfect and the larger wheels made the tool glide through the yard much easier than any of the magnet tools I already had. At the lowest setting, it did not get hung up very often on my uneven yard. This tool was finding nails in areas that I thought had been gone over thoroughly. As someone else commented, as soon as you hear the clink of the nail hitting the magnetic bar, you must stop and remove it as the grass brushing across the surface will most often push it off again if you continue. It does slow down the cleanup process, but is absolutely necessary. I am sure on smooth surfaces like concrete or asphalt you could pick up lots of metal without stopping, but over grass you must stop immediately when you hear it pick up something. You have to listen to the tool. You will pretty much be able to tell when it has brushed across something metal but didn't pick it up. That is a signal to continue to roll over an area to let the magnet pull the metal up through the tangle of grass until you get the successful click. Shipping was fantastic and received it the next day after ordering and probably saved me three days of additional recovery work. I recovered over 4 pounds of nails and staples in two days using this tool and another half pound going over the yard yet again the next day. Based on that last recovery surveillance I think I will make at least one more pass through the yard before I bring out the lawn tractor. This is a great tool and has been well worth the purchase.

I purchased the 24" neiko magnetic sweeper. The body is 24" long and overall length with wheels is 28". The build quality is actually much better than I anticipated. The handle on mine is made of decent steel tubing with a 16 gauge wall thickness, it attaches to the 14 gauge steel mounting bracket and is solid. The four magnets inside are very strong! I assembled it on my table saw and at one point I accidentally got it stuck to the steel top and I had one heck of a time getting it off. I set the wheels to their lowest setting because my garage/shop floor is heavily pitted from 35 years of road salt and abuse. But I was pleasantly surprised by how well this sweeper worked. I've attached two pictures showing the tiny metal pieces and the metal dust from grinding and plasma cutting it picked up in one quick pass. It even pulled metal particles out of the craters in my concrete floor. I just swept the floor yesterday and even vacuumed part of it. One pull of the release handle and everything fell into my trash can. Overall I am pleased with the build quality and how well it works for my application. My only caveat is the way you adjust the height of the wheels. You have to remove 8 small screws to pull out the end caps to access the head of the axle bolt. It's a tedious process but in the end it does work. It's important that my floor is clean so my dogs don't get metal slivers in their paws. In conclusion, I would have no problem buying this sweeper again and/or recommending it to family and friends.

I use this around my siding and roofing jobs because it seems no matter how careful the crew is, there will be screws or nails on the ground. This thing is always good insurance to keep from having to buy a tire or try to get the contractor to pay for a tire. It has two levels so you can set the height for paved driveways or grassy yards. When you turn it over, the magnet moves inside and it will dump all the nails and screws it picked up so you can dispose of them. It is not as sturdy built as one of the professional ones, but for my needs, it is just about perfect. I would recommend this item. Works great.

it has a simple mechanical design. the magnet is enclosed inside of a thin sheet metal box. the magnet sits at the bottom of the box, and the nails are picked up by it and stick to the bottom outside of that sheet metal box. then when you are done, you life the magent up using the handle, the magnetic field dies, and most of what you picked up falls off of the bottom of the sheet metal box. seems well built. with some care, it should last a decade. it is pretty heavy....and big, so you will need some wall space somewhere to store it on.

First I want to say that this works pretty well. The guy that has been building my garage sucks really bad and went on vacation before it was finished and left what looks like hundreds of nails lying around in my yard. Not trying to turn my lawnmower into a deadly weapon so I decided to buy this to pick the nails up myself. It's magnet picks nails up pretty well. It's not the strongest magnet. If the nail had been stepped on and pushed into the dirt, even just a little bit, it wouldn't pick it up. I spent about 5 minutes outside with it and it picked up about 50 nails in the small area I used it in. I quickly learned that it's low enough to the ground and wide enough that bumps/rocks scrape the bottom of it a lot. That'll scrape the nails off if there are any on the bottom. Unless your surface is pretty even, this will be a pain to use. I wound up picking it up and carrying it about 2 inches off the ground to pick up nails in the rough spots. It works, but there are magnets without wheels that are intended for that sort of thing. You could probably put bigger wheels on it to lift it up off the ground a little more, but bigger rocks and debris would probably still scrape the bottom of it. The thing feels rickety. Like, the magnet release system is just a handle that loosely slides/wobbles around. It works, but it feels like it could've been refined to not feel so... cheap. The handle isn't that sturdy either. I don't intend to use it as a baseball bat or anything so it doesn't matter, but it feels like it could easily bend or come apart. There were no instructions with mine. It's mainly just putting the wheels on and assembling the handle. It's pretty self explanitory but instructions are always a nice thing to include.
