In nearly a year's time since I purchased this, I've been through it all with this little thing. I'm ghost-white with dark brown hair and thick skin from keratosis pilaris. Shaving does NOTHING. I can go through the god-awful shaving olympics and spend 90 minutes getting my legs beautiful in the morning only to have them disgusting and stubbly again by that night. I've tried Nair, I've tried Veet, I waxed, I had done everything. It's just all too expensive or too risky (sensitive skin) or just didn't work. So I saw promises that this would give me smooth legs and I eagerly went for it. I was especially drawn in by the promise of 3-4 weeks of smooth legs without having to do anything to maintain it. The pain is horrific the first time you do it. I did both upper and lower legs in full the first time, and was very disappointed. I think because of my KP, my skin was NOT smooth the way it is after I shave. And I had to maintain at least once a week. Still, I found it worth it for a long time because it's much quicker than shaving and even though it hurt, so does shaving for me. I lost weight and the skin on my upper legs became so loose that I'd give myself pinch hemorrhages on my inner thighs no matter how careful I was or how taut I pulled the skin, so I eventually stopped doing the upper legs and just did the lowers. I maintained my pits for a while too because man, it's nice not having 5 o'clock armpit shadow. And then came a point about 4 months ago where I was tired of using it. I didn't have smooth skin, I was tired of pain, and frankly I was only doing this for myself as I have a loving SO who doesn't give a flip whether my body has a bit of hair or doesn't. I decided to go back to just using my electric shaver every few days instead. Easier, painless, and gave me 70% of the results of the epilator. I didn't think I'd miss the extra 30% that much. Oh boy was I wrong. It only took two months or so before I was tired of having prickly stubbly legs every other day. Every time I looked at the dark hair roots stuck under my thick skin in follicles making my legs look terrible even after I'd shaved, I regretted ever stopping. I did one patch on my right leg and watched over a month's time as that hair grew back finer and slower than the rest, and I knew I had to start again. I knew how painful that first time would be, so I took a few weeks to gather my courage and went back at it. I combined it with my shaver so that the hairs were shorter (HIGHLY recommend this, it helps a lot) and did the job in sections over a few days. Now I'm back to beautiful legs. I haven't gathered the courage to start on my pits again; I remember how awful that was. It hurt for days. I think I may get them waxed once and then maintain with the epilator. Oh and as for facial hair, I never did stop doing my upper lip with this. There's just no justification for taking 45 minutes out of my day once every couple weeks to drive to a beauty shop and pay someone else $15 to wax my upper lip when I can spend 2 minutes doing it once a week at home with this. I originally got this because I was using a face cream with tretinoin so I couldn't wax even if I wanted to, and now it's just so much easier and more cost-effective that I can't go back to waxing my face. It hurts worse than any other area but it is also done in literally a minute, two if I drag it out being squeamish. I cannot tolerate having a mustache, so it's a must for me. I use this dry and don't really care to do it any other way. Exfoliating helps a lot with removing dead skin so you can expose more length on the hairs you need to grab. I usually take a shower, exfoliate, and then use it. A charge lasts me quite a long time, especially if I'm only doing touch-ups in between. This is the best hundred bucks I spent in the last year for sure. Highly recommend this if you have the pain tolerance for it.

This is going to be a pretty long review because I purchased this item two years ago and it is an integrated part of my beauty routine. I am so happy that I transitioned from waxing to this! I bought this set in 2016 because I was tired of getting ingrown hairs and I haven't waxed since. I have traveled all over the world with this set and I never have to worry about keeping my body free of hair. Recommendations: get a wax before your first epilator session to reduce the pain. The more hair you have the more painful this is. Now that does NOT mean if you're extra hairy stay away! It means that if you catch the hairs at the beginning of the growth cycle instead of catching them when all the hair has already started to grow in, the epilation process will be less painful. I still remember how painful it was when I first used it because I let all my hair grow in. After that first shave however, it is much less painful. The less hair you have the less painful the cut. I also want to point out that after using this for about 6 months, the hair under my arms was so much finer than it had ever been in my life. Nowadays, I can actually go for a month or more without shaving and it doesn't look like I have a lot of hair under my arms. This never happened before using the epilator. Also wanted to point out that at I haven't use the attachment heads in a long time! I take the purple part off and use the epilator straight. I do not recommend doing this when you first start using the product but just know that it will definitely get less and less painful over time. To the point where it just feels like little discomfort instead of pain. The only con I have with this is that it is still painful to use the epilator on my pubic area. My bikini area has gotten used to the pain and the hairs there have become finer (like the underarms) but anything past that hurts quite a bit. After all this time I basically only use the shaver head in that area and I still have a very smooth shave. Note that you can use the straight edge and then the foil shaver to accomplish this. Make sure you exfoliate before you shave so you get any extra dead skin off so this can pluck out more stubborn hairs. I have been able to get ingrown hairs plucked with this too! Overall this product is amazing and I highly recommend it. It is worth the investment and I can attest to that because I have used this for 2 years! The motor has slowed down only the tiniest bit but I have not noticed any significant degradation in the product and I only use it in the shower (meaning it is always under water). It is definitely waterproof. The only thing I don't use it for is my legs but that is honestly because it takes so long and I would rather just use a razor for 5 to 10 minutes and call it a day. Read: I'm lazy.

Why did I wait so long to purchase and use one of these?.. I don’t know but it was foolish. Most of my life, I shaved because I just couldn’t tolerate waxing. I do wax my own armpits and bikini area and Brazilian. Why buy this product: PROS: 1. It’s the Queen of epilators. I’ve done my research very carefully reviewing every website and reviews. I needed something that will maintain everything including Brazilians and facial hairs. THIS IS IT, look no more and trust me on this one. 2. Really not that painful. I know pulling individual hairs from your body sounds like an ultra-painful, medieval waxing experience, but it was not nearly as bad as I was expecting. At worst, it feels like the beginning of a static shock or needles poking. But, again, every epilator (and pain tolerance) is different. If it hurts, stop am after a small section and then start again. I had to do this first time I used it. 3. Lasts 3-4 weeks! And the best part is that you don’t have to wait for the hair to get long enough to pull (as waking does). This epilator grabs hair as small as a grain of sand. Think about your tweezers that you use to pluck your tiny eyebrow hairs. 4. This model has a shaver. Trust me you’ll need it, especially if you’re doing your bikini/Brazilian area and men for your back areas. Hairs do need to be short. 5. Handles wet (in the shower/bath) and dry. Epilating wet is going to be a less painful than dry, as there's water to coat and comfort the skin, according to a dermatologist I read so online. However, "dry epilation is more efficient because the hairs are not flatted down by water," she says, so the epilator can catch and pull each hair better 6. Maintain your Brazilian in between waxes. If you do like to wax, you may use this to maintain it. If you’re brave to give yourself a full Brazilian. Trim all the hairs to be uniform and short (the Braun comes with a trimmer head), pop a pillow under your butt, grab a mirror, pull your skin taut, and take your time. Go side-to-side in small strokes, gradually increasing the width of each stroke, rather than running it over a new, thick patch of hair each time. Adrenaline is your friend here, so take breaks, but don't stop. If you do the mons pubis first, the labia and everything else will feel like a breeze, and after a while, you become kinda numb to it. It took me two hours to do the whole Brazilian, which is a lot, but so is $60 for a wax. CON 1. Pricey. BUT, worth every penny saved from having to go to the salon to wax all areas of your body. 2. Might be out of stock since it’s so demanded. Happy I found it on Amazon. TIPS: 1. Take some ibuprofen 1HR before .. it does help a little as your blood thins and relives pain from pulling. 2. EXFOLIATE: Even if you don’t have any in hand.. mix half part left over coffee grinds, course sugar like brown sugar and a tiny bit of conditioner. Mix and rub well. I don’t recommend doing this in your intimate areas as it’s very delicate down there. 3. Epilate after your shower or bath. Your skin and follicles are moist... may be less painful. 4. As soon as you epilate one area, lift the epilator and just press that area with your hand to ease the pain.

I hate shaving, not because of the cost of razors or the nicks or anything about the actual act of shaving but the aftermath. I don't know if it's the german lineage or what but I shave in the morning and have full blown stubble by the evening. That first step out of the shower into a slightly chilly room and those goose bumps immediately take away my silky smoothness and my short road to stubble begins. I got in the habit of carrying a razor in my car during the summer just in case a long day became a long night and I had to do touch ups. As a nearly 40 year old woman trying to enter the dating world constant stubble is embarrassing so here we are....epilating... Holy Hell!! It does what it's supposed to do, oh boy does it remove hair. I read so many reviews before deciding to buy this and one review in particular made the decision for me; the reviewer compared the pain to that of getting a tattoo. I have numerous tattoos, one of which is on my ribs which I got when I weighed 125 lbs so she was practically tattooing bone....that was nothing. I've had 2 kids and that was nothing....I have a high tolerance for pain, in fact I almost fell asleep during one of my tattoos. That being said this is the most painful thing I've ever felt. I've only used it on my lower legs; after the 1st attempt which only left half of one leg done I waited a week and asked my 17 year old son if he'd do it for me while I sat on my hands; it helped not being able to stop at every tender spot. He was able to get a full pass done before I said stop....I'd take a couple deep breaths and we'd go again. It's not so bad on the front, I thought the bony area would be the worst but it was actually the top of my calf muscle that had me screaming out in pain. The knee isn't fun either. It becomes quite time consuming with all the little rest periods, it probably took an hour to do both legs. I had slightly red polka-dot skin after; I applied coconut oil and by the next morning the redness was gone and my legs looked great. Next time I'm going to try doing it after a hot shower, maybe even keep a hot wash cloth nearby to open up the pores between passes. Cleaning it is fairly easy; getting all of the hairs out takes some time and patience assuming you want it free of all the hair. The shaver head is practically useless, it takes numerous passes to remove hair so I don't see the point. I may let my 11 year old daughter use it since she just started shaving this spring and the thought of her putting a razor to her skin makes me nervous. I like the face scrubber, so does my son. It's gentle and my face feels very soft and clean after use so it's a nice bonus. Overall I like the product. It's been a week so far and I'd say 95% of the area I used it on is still hair free; some random hairs here and there from breakage I'm sure....totally worth the pain.

I not NOT a paid reviewer and this review is totally unsolicited. I LOVE my new Braun Silk-épil 9 9-579!!!! :-) Goodbye razors, and waxes at the salon! (tried waxing but my skin was, too, sensitive) I watched a couple of online videos describing how this product works and most are spot on ..... yes, it is a little uncomfortable but if you can tolerate waxing, your golden. Even in areas they don't normally wax, most salons don't hit the very top 2 inches or so of your thigh, this product was totally tolerable. I did have to go slower and use speed 1 on most of my upper thighs and on the most upper part, I had to use the shaver, rather than the epilator. Nonetheless, this product gave me GREAT results from the very first use. The other thing I want to address is the red bumps. I was concerned about this because I am a redhead and have very sensitive skin, yep, you read that right, I have VERY sensitive skin and I am still able to very easily use this product. Anyway, back to the bumps .... I did both of my lower legs on the first try, the only tricky areas were my knees and the back of my knees and yes, there were little red bumps ..... however, they were pretty much gone the next morning. This same morning, I decided to go ahead and do my upper legs, figured the area would be hidden under my capri pants so it wouldn't matter. Afterwards, I showered, exfoliated my skin, patted dry and applied my regular lotion (I always use Cetaphil because it is hypoallergenic & non-greasy) and much to my surprise, there were NO RED bumps except on the very sensitive area on the upper part of my thigh! I was very very pleased. Also, regarding the shaver head that I used on the very upper/inside area of my both thighs, it gave me a very close shave and although it was a little red, and did not disappear when I exfoliated my skin, patted it dry and applied my regular lotion, it was not uncomfortable either. My guess is, by tomorrow morning, it'll be just fine. If I had one wish for this product it would to to have a different attachment for the face. Why can't Braun make a completely separate attachment (like they have for the shaver) but matches the separate product they already sell for the face??? The only reason I didn't buy the other product is, I've already spend over $100 on this one, and the video reviews say that, for the price, it isn't power enough and uses batteries! Why in the world would I want that?!?!? However, if they had added a separate head attachment to this product I would have been willing to pay more for it because I wouldn't have to worry about batteries!! Finally, after watching the videos, I chose to do this on dry skin because I felt I would get better results. Therefore, I am not able to comment on what the results would be if I had done it in the shower. Men aren't the target audience for an Epilator, but here I am reviewing it anyway... As a bodybuilder, I spend most of the year hair-free. It is a long and tedious process to remove EVERYTHING from my toes to my neck. Shaving is quicker and painless, but grows back immediately as stubble. Epilation takes several hours total-time and hurts like hell, but won't regrow for weeks, even months. The longer you have been yanking them out by the roots, the finer and fewer they regrow. As a man, my bodyhair is typically thicker and more coarse than my female counterpart. After a couple months of regular use, you'll still see just a light fuzz coming back and you can skip doing this torture for a month or more. After 15 years of this, I have very little chest and pit hair at all, even after 3-4 months of growth. It may well and truly suck for the first few times, but you get desensitized to it. Or you end up killing off the nerve endings just as you are killing off the hair follicles. Either way, it gets more tolerable the more and longer you use this thing. I have been through 7 different epilators and 3 different brands. The Braun products have always been superior in every way. The 9 series is as good as it gets. The light is bright and helps you see the missed ones easily. It seems less painful than most of the others, is easy to hold onto and can reach into tight spaces like armpits and... um... ya. Watch out for areas of loose skin that can get sucked into the pinchers. You can have some bloody chewed up flesh in a hurry if you don't pull the skin tight as you go along. This is the first one I have had that was cordless and it is so nice not being tethered to an outlet. Battery is supposed to last 40 minutes on a 1 hour charge. I exceeded an hour on my first use and it didn't look like the light dimmed, or motor slowed at all. After 40 minutes of torture, you'll want to give it a rest and come back the next day anyway for another body part. Spend a week gradually working your way through your entire body, don't try to do it all at once unless you have a special affection for pain. I can reach every part except my back, which I have to have my wife step in for a little partnership torture. Oddly... it actually feels good on most of my back - like getting a thorough scratch and massage. Most of the accessories that come in the package are worthless (to me). I just use the most open head cover to hit as much territory as possible on each pass. My wife prefers the cover with the vibrating thingies, as she thinks that one hurts a little less. The most pain comes from when it yanks on a hair, but doesn't pull it out. Could be an extremely coarse one that stubbornly refuses to budge, so gets repeatedly yanked on over and over. Could be that you need to clean the tweezer head, or it is beginning to wear out and not grip as well. Could also be that your hair is too long and the tweezers keep grabbing it too far up instead of down toward the base. Hair that is about 1/8" to 1/4" long seems to work best. Full length hair doesn't yank very well, so you may want to pre-shave before starting this. Cut it off around 1/4", or shave completely and epilate when you start to see regrowth to that length. Hair grows in stages. In other words, not every hair grows at the same time. I suppose of they did, they would also all fall out at the same time too... Epilating weekly at first will hit them as the different staged follicles activate. Eventually after you hit every hair at least once, you'll clearly notice the regrowth slow way down and you can back off to every other week, once a month or every couple months. There is nothing you can do about the pain. It is gonna hurt till the hairs slow and/or stop regrowing. Get through small sections at a time and take a break. Come back and hit another section. Once you get through the first complete round, you'll have just the fresh ones that weren't in the first stage. Third time and you'll have fewer still. Yes, it gets better.

Being used to an old-fashioned Philips Epilady, this was a relief. Going over any area even just once does the job! Even shorter hairs. Note: this does not work in the shower. Hairs really need to be a bit longer, the water makes it harder for the machine to pick up the smallest hairs. It does help with the pain! Warm water really opens up the pores and soothes the skin. Winner! Personally, I didn't like the massage head. The machine doesn't pick up all the (especially the somewhat shorter) hairs with this head and pain-wise: not really a massive difference. Have to say that I am pretty tolerable when it comes to pain. Using the regular head however is great. Once I start one area, it's as if your skin becomes a bit numb. The vibration of the epilator really helps doing that. The light is mostly annoying. It's often on the wrong side of the machine, making it impossible to see what your doing and you cannot switch the light off! I tend to go up and down (some hairs, especially on the back of your calf, grow in different directions) and I noticed myself turning the device off in order to see how my leg looked. Personally I use an epilator for "everything", yes I mean that literally. Being such a good epilator makes doing my pooch pure hell. It's too effective for this area. Bikini is perfectly fine, but I really can't bare it if I can not pull the skin extremely tight, so I'm left with hairy area's. *sigh* still need to go to the salon I guess. Or take morfine instead of 2 advil (yes that's how bad I wanted it). O, the other extra (facial cleaner? Comes with an epilator?) is useless. The brush is to soft to properly peel and too harsh for everyday use. Also, the brush-hairs started to be crooked after using it 4 times. Don't understand why it was included. Don't see the link. The included pouch is too small for all the extra heads, epilator and charger. I ended up using a beautiful old leather one from my old loyal Philips Epilady. The charging-stand is perfect! Ideal to have on your bathroom counter. Small and sleek looking. Same as the epilator itself. The Silk-Epil is beautifully shaped, easy to handle, battery lasts very long, crazy effective (legs are done in a jiffy) and fairly priced.

I just got it yesterday, but I got home late and didn't want to wake anyone up, so I charged it and used it today. Where has this thing been all my life? I've been waxing my legs at for years, and this little machine gives the same exact results! Waxing is a chore for me; I loathe waiting for the wax to warm up and the cleanup process after I'm done. I felt absolutely no pain/sting when I used this, which was what I was worried about when I purchased this epilator (after reading numerous reviews). Maybe that's because I've been waxing for a long time, so I've gotten used to the sensation of hairs being pulled out from their roots. So, to the ladies out there that wax: no worries! There's no pain! This is my first epilator. As a student, I needed something that would be fast and efficient in hair removal. Waxing just takes too damn long. I was on the hunt for a good epilator for about a month, scouring and reading endless reviews, and was going to buy the cheaper Philips epilator. It had an attractive price (poor undergrad student here), but I'm glad that I changed my mind at the last moment. I know how good Braun products are - my dad has been using Braun for years - so I opted to bite the bullet and purchase the best epilator on the market. If I was going to spend money on an epilator, why not put more in for a better epilator? NOISE: It's analogous to the sound of remote control cars for kids. (Not that it bothers me anyway.) CLEANUP: It comes with a brush, so you can just use it to get the hairs out. You can also, as you know, use this thing in the shower, so to help clean the head, brush out the hairs under running water. HAIR REMOVAL: It removes unwanted body hair by pulling them out of their follicles. Same thing as waxing, and just like waxing, it would sometimes miss a few strands of hair here and there. But no worries! - to remove those, just simply run over that area with the epilator again. Unlike waxing, you can go over the same area over and over again to your heart's content (without worrying about damaging/hurting the top layers of your skin). FACIAL BRUSH: Since I have a Clarisonic, I'm not planning on using this. Gifts are always welcome, though. (I really wish that the body exfoliating brush came with this package instead of the facial brush!) My only gripe about this product is the battery life of this thing. Charge it for about an hour for 45 minutes of operating time? That sucks. Eh, whatever. This thing has indefinitely become a solid presence in my maintenance routine. Got hairy legs? Use this baby and VOILA! - smooth, hairless skin. Got unwanted body hair? Use this epilator and BANG! - your undesirable body hairs will disappear! Please moisturize afterwards.

Recently came to know about epilation n epilators. Read a lot and seen a lot of reviews and demos on internet. So, when the product was first delivered, I straight away tried it on my leg first and I didn't feel any pain literally. So, I tried on my face with facial cap on, but it was not much catching the small hair.. so I tried with the roller cap and it was good. It plucked out small growth of hair easily. I am used to waxing a lot, on my chin n upper lip also. I can say I did not feel any pain or discomfort. Very convenient for me. My hair growth is fast, I think this will be very convenient for me. Best investment. I haven't tried the facial brush yet but it seems kind of delicate.

Definitely one of my favourite products purchased online. This is a fantastic product. Tip: use it in the shower, it hurts less, gets closer, and lasts longer. I'm so use to this product now, it doesn't hurt at all. If you find it painful, put it on low, and move around, don't do the same spot, and it will desensitize quickly so you can get the job done. :) I absolutely love not having any stubble any more on my legs, even when it starts to come back in. Well worth it!
