Very nice toaster, it even defrosts!
I would recommend this toaster to anyone. First, the ONLY drawback is it is a bit larger than most (larger "footprint). But it fits very nicely in the corner of a counter. It has easy cleanup, with nice slideout bins under both sides. Toasts nicely and quickly. Even has a defrost setting which is nice (although I rarely use this). The center levers pop the toast up out of the toaster nicely so you don't have to "dig" although the slots are so nice and wide, it's easy to get toast out. I love the bagel setting, FINALLY I don't have to SQUISH my bagels to toast them (or drag out my much larger toaster oven!). Also, I like the wide opening to insert your bread, even when you don't have it on "bagel" setting...the plates just close around the bread once you begin the toasting...very nice, especially when you have curled bread! The temperature setting knobs are great and I love the pusbutton in the middle of each to pop your toast up early if you like. The temperature settings seem to be quite consistent, which I've never found in a regular "older fashioned" 2-slice toaster. It looks very nice and modern on my counter and matches my stainless steel and black appliances beautifully. I used to "hide" my other toaster in the cupboard, but this one deserves a place on the counter. Once you see it in person, and try it, I know you'll like it. Very good quality. And the two SEPARATE operational sides were very well thought out. Sometimes you don't need FOUR slices toasted and sometimes you do! Overall, EXCELLENT, and recommended. It's worth the price, especially if you get free shipping with Amazon!

Attractive look but does not toast evenly
I purchased this toaster based on recent positive reviews but unfortunately I ended up returning it due to poor performance. While I liked the unique design, I found that the toaster slots are not wide enough to accomodate certain brands of bread and that the toaster does not toast evenly. Increasing the heat setting only burns one side while leaving the other side relatively untoasted. On occasion, the toaster will shoot the toast into the air and onto the floor. While definitely a crowd pleaser for kids, you may risk wasting a lot of bread. While this toaster has an extra set of levers (in the middle of the front panel) to push up small pieces of bread, there may be an initial learning curve for this toaster, especially for those that are used to the classic toaster design. The bagel feature works well and doesn't overly burn or unevenly toast one side more than the other. Like other reviewers have mentioned, this toaster is wide so ample counter space is necessary.

Grandies called it the 'flying toaster'
I had no idea what they were talking about until a piece of toast popped out of it and landed in my hand! LOLI bought it 10 years ago and it is still flying when I roast only one slice . . .I have used it for bagels beautifully, Texas toast, regular toast, homemade bread and those wide loaves of bread . . . beautifully. I got it while staying with my mother for ten years because she had just about given the entire kitchen away and was living on peanut butter and bread. It took me a couple weeks to realize she was in about the 4th scale of Alheimer's; then I started rebuilding the kitchen and getting her to eat, but though she is gone and the house was reloaded with everything she got rid of, I am trying to move back home to a house I left completely loaded for my daughter's use . . . having to give away a lot of stuff, but this toaster is going home with me unless one of the grandies ask for it. A shame to find it gone because I thought to get them each one for Christmas.

Great toaster, sleek design
This is a great toaster. It boasts modern design touches, the angled front really makes insertion and removal of toast easy and not subject to cabinet heights. The lift levers do a great job of helping to raise up your toast so you don't need to reach into the toaster. These lift levers have also been updated from the previous generation of Avante toasters (which we have); the previous generation you'd have to hold the lever down with one hand and grab your toast with the other. These lift levers lock down, so your toast is kept elevated so you can use both hands to remove toast. The only real drawback is that it says high speed on it, but it isn't that fast. It takes a couple of minutes to produce toast or a toasted bagel. Bear in mind though, that I bought and tested 4 other toasters before choosing this one and each of the other 4 toasters performed even more slowly.

I bought it, wouldn't recommend it.
I bought the four-slot version of this product about three years ago, and developed a real dislike for the design. It's bad. Here's why:The bagel feature only works on two slots, not all four. How hard would it have been to make it work on all four? The darkness controls are loose and have a lot of play ... it's hard to set it to a particular spot. There are two separate controls; one to push the toast down and another to lift it higher for removal. They look identical and are confusing. A single control would have been better.Lifting either the push-down control or the lift-up control doesn't end the toasting and eject the toast. You have to push a separate button. The unit takes up a lot of counter space, much more than necessary. It's no faster than a standard toaster. The slots often hang up the toast because they're angled forward, and you have to push it down with your fingers. It's not awful, but I was happy to replace it. It's not more heavy duty than any other toaster. Really, toasting bread or bagels is pretty simple. T-fal went out of their way to design something unique, but they missed the mark with a poor, confusing design.
