Singer CG590
So far I love my sewing machine!I've been sewing since I was a teenager and now I'm in my forties mostly sewing for you two young daughters...I'm not a professional but certainly know how to sew and how to maintain my sewing machines.I received my new Singer CG590 and was a little disappointed with the all the plastic parts...but once I started sewing all my cares and concerns vanished.Over the last month I've sewn 2 dresses, 2 peasants skirts with yards and yards of fabric, pajamas and have done alterations. I did make a few adjustments to the machine tension and had to refer back to the instructions a few times but other wise the machine preformed flawlessly, the stitching was great and I personally found the machine easy to use. Plus I love that the CG590 is NOT a computer. I want to sew for my girls not be a computer programmer!!!Overall I'm very very happy with my purchase. My only complaint...I wish the motor was more quiet.August 2016 - I'm sad. We moved and I made the mistake of letting the movers move machine. Big mistake. I think it was crushed (causing the bobbin stick to get pushed into the machine and gears or moving to be destroyed). Up until the move the machine worked well 5 yesrs, stitching was even and smooth and yes the machine was a little loud but it maxee happy. RIP my machine :(

Great machine for the price!
I'm thrilled with the performance of the CG590 so far. I purchased it as a replacement for my original Singer/Merritt 1827 which I purchased over 20 years ago that also worked like a champ until it mysteriously disappeared. Again, to agree with others, there are plastic parts that I just don't care for, like the presser foot arm lift. It works just like it should! Don't get me wrong, but that particular part just "feels" less than sturdy. The CG590 HAULS. Make no mistake, if you're not careful and very cautious with the foot pedal, without the needle guard, you really could do some damage, but if you're in control and have a lot of yardage to get through, this is the machine to do it. Just make sure your work surface is also heavy duty. The motor in this baby is so strong that it'll shake your table and even with the little suction cups at the base (yeah, ha!), the machine body WILL MOVE if your table isn't absolutely solid. Great machine by Singer! I had been depressed by all of the word that Singer had gone completely plastic and wasn't worth diddly anymore. Not so! You can also purchase (or use your old ones!) solid metal feet if you're like me and totally hate the plastic ones. It's just a personal thing and I don't feel secure using a snap-on anything when I'm sewing. I'm a little rough I guess. No upholstery fabrics or sailcloth for me yet, but I did manage four and eight layers of broadcloth while hand guiding velcro onto it with no problems.

Outstanding Purchase
This is a fantastic machine. The main case (grey) is mostly metal and very well made. My machine was assembled in Brazil. It runs at various speeds and has a powerful motor that is easily controlled by the foot pedal for any desired speed. I have hardwood floors and the machine operates smoothly and quietly. I read the manual prior to use and it easily threads needles and every feature is superb. I'm extremely happy with this Singer CG590 Commercial Grade Sewing Machine. We have used this machine many times and it is the very best sewing machine that I have ever owned. It is a simple mechanical machine, that is easy to use, easy to change settings, and has very little electronics to malfunction. It seems to be a long lasting, very reliable machine, and I highly recommend it.

BOBBIN WINDER NON-FUNCTIONAL AFTER 6 USES
I purchased this machine last October, 2010, on Amazon; the reviews were good. Machine looked great on arrival and did a good job of straight stitching. Winding the bobbin was always a problem, as the bobbin winds unevenly. The bobbin does not come apart like those on Singer's Touch n' Sew, which is very inconvenient. The mechanism appeared to be loose. A Singer representative advised me to take machine to an official warranty dealership near my home. What appeared to be a tiny, rubber stopper had come loose. No parts were broken. The technician glued the stopper and returned my machine to me at no charge. It appears that Singer had a bad batch of these CG590's come through for 2010, all with the same sloppy assembly, for I was not the first caller to report this problem to Singer. (See 1 star review of this item on Amazon.) I'm happy with the outcome; time will tell if my new machine holds up. Be advised that the warranty on parts is good for only 90 days for this machine. After that, parts and labor will be your responsibility. The technician at the Singer dealership spent a few minutes showing me how to correctly load the bobbin and thread the machine. The instruction manual for the CG590 has vague diagrams, though the written instructions appear to be fairly adequate. The technician pointed out at least two areas where I had missed guiding the thread to the needle. On this machine, it is difficult to see the guides. If you order one of these machines, ask someone who is familiar with Singer to provide instructions. I have owned two Singers in the past and this unit is very different from my earlier machines.A major drawback for me is the poor lighting on the "head." You'll need an additional light source to properly use this machine.
