The Forests of Silence (Deltora Quest #1)

I was so happy to find that the Deltora Quest books were finally released on Kindle. I had read these amazing books several times in paperback years ago & kept checking often for them on Kindle. I'm thrilled to be able to read them again. Emily Rodda is a fantastic author & her books are so clever, enchanting & terrifying at times. Reading about Lief, Barda & Jasmine's journey is exciting & nail-biting. I'm excited for book #2. It's been too long. These books are phenomenal for all ages.

The book itself was great (bought this series for my son to read for school). However, it took a sight seeing trip on it's way here and didn't arrive when specified. I was very disappointed that it didn't arrive with pictures of its adventure. Apparently when it arrived in the hub in Atlanta, instead of making the nice day trip up to Woodstock to arrive on time, it decided to go to Knoxville and showed up three days late. I'm not entirely sure what it did in Knoxville (I'm guessing what happens in Knoxville stays in Knoxville), but some travel pics would have been entertaining. We ended up having to wait a week before we could begin reading, but I don't think it will put us too far behind.

I received this series when I was about 12 and once I picked up the first book I couldn't wait to read the next. I'm 30 years old now and this series has lived rent free in the back of my mind. Definitely one of my all time favorites.

I read the series as a teenager and thought I'd revisit for some inspiration for my D&D campaigns and it's just as good as I remember it. Definitely geared for a younger audience but I still love the creativity.

I read these books when I was a child, and it opened my world to a story that would span 8 books. Rereading the first as an adult brings back the wonder and amazement I felt in immediately wanting the rest of the books to know it’s ending.

As someone who didn't grow up on this series, I wanted to check it out. One thing I will say is that it is definitely not written with an adult in mind- the pacing is very zippy and the conflict very basic. Within the first ten pages you can pretty much see exactly where it's going. But there were a lot of clever little details to be had, and the characters- while again, pretty basic- are for the most part enjoyable. Would recommend for kids or somebody who grew up on the series and has fond nostalgia for it, but probably not for an adult coming in blind. However, my biggest criticism for this particular sale comes in with the audio reading. While the reader does a very good job with the male voices- especially adult males with booming voices that are meant to sound gruff and imposing- his read of the female voices is BAD. Bad, bad, bad, bad stick a fork in your ears bad. With adult women it sounds like that voice you hear from obnoxious boys on the playground mimicking a girl in a way that's deliberately meant to sound nasal and whiny. When the character of a young girl (one of the main protagonists no less) comes in later, he tries to pitch his voice even higher and fails spectacularly, such to the point that it sounds less like a young girl and more like a wizened old man who's been chain-smoking all his life. It makes the character impossible to take seriously, when she's meant to be a very shrewd and capable individual. So... do yourself a favor, and get one of the versions you actually have to read. The audio-reading does the book absolutely zero favors.

I bought the books in this series as Christmas gifts for my great-grandson. He is into reading which is an absolute joy to me because I've travelled the world since I was five years old via books. That he is embarking on a similar journey could not please me more. The series is an additional plus because they are put out by Scholastic Press.and that is important to my grandaughter. I did not read all through this or any of the other books in the series but skimmed over a few pages just to get a feel for them. It is my hope and opinion that my great-grandson will enjoy the entire series immensely.

Amazing book, great for all ages! Emily Rodda is a fantastic author! The Kindle book was great quality as well.
