Sailing with the sunforce inverter
OK I was a little dubious about this, due to some bad reviews, But many folks had good things to say, so i gave it a shot. This inverter is build pretty well. It runs my little edgestar 3.1 fridge very well and even ran my electric heater (on low). As someone else said, both outlets are wired together ( I checked), so YES you can run 1000 watts on one plug. This is 4 times the size of my old 700 watt MSW inverter and 10 times the weight. It's pretty substantial. The led gauge is pretty worthless and would be 1000 times better if it did not go back to showing ac voltage, which is pointless. Far better if it defaulted to DC amps or even dc voltage. It also is missing handy mounted legs which is a bit of a pain. and the side "cooling" fins are plastic, so all show and no go there. Probably the marketing guys idea (Diitch the marketing guy Sunforce). Still the fan has not run yet (I only ran the heater for 30 seconds to see if it would beep which it did not).If sunforce fixed the display to default to dv amps and added mounting feet this would be a perfect inverter. I gave it 5 stars as its still a very good deal. By the way the dc amp reading was reading low compared to my clamp on amp meter. So not too accurate there either. More an approximate. But it does work well and did not beep at all with either the heater or fridge. You do need at least 4 gauge wire. I will note that I'm using this inverter on a sailboat with four GC2 flooded deep cycle batteries and it does it well.

Documentation all fine print and poor electrical connectors
I received the 1000W inverter today. It looks heavy duty to me. I thought I'd read the instructions first before installation. The entire manual is in fine print, had to get out a magnifing glass to read some parts. The manual is in three languages, but not a lot of pages. I guess they felt that only experienced installers would be setting it up.The unit has a 3 digit display, the manual shows the error codes that could be displayed, some make since, some don't. The manual shows an example of a 4 digit power load as 1380W. The panel shows this as KVA. Will have to keep the manual handy if an error code shows up.The manual does cover all the important things that an installer would need to know. Anyone who understands the basics of electricty should be able to set it up.When first connecting the groud wire the entire bolt turned inside the case, requiring me to open the case to tighten it up.The connectors for the battery connections are too close to each other making it difficult to tighten them. The tightening nuts are designed for finger tightening and make it difficult to get them tight enough. The weight of a stiff 4 AWG wire was enough to losen itself with very little vibration. This could be a real safety issue. There should be some way to lock them down. The unit also has a 12 V cigarette lighter socket which is powered even when the 120 V circuit is off. Too bad it dosent have it's own on/off switch. Due to the 120 V circuit's high self power consumption (2.5 Amps) of this inverter, I found this socket handy for plugging in my modified sine wave inverter for low power requirements thereby conserving the batteries. The digital display shows the AC voltage until pressing a very small button, then displays DC voltage for 2 seconds then switches itself back to AC voltage display. I'd rather see the DC voltage most of the time or at least have a choice.I was able to operate my big screen TV that would not work with a modified sine wave inverter.... After a year of daily usage my UPS started tripping on overvoltage. I used several volt meters and concluded the Sunforce voltage display was showing 120 V but was actually putting out voltages up to 155 volts. The UPS is set to trip at 142 V so had to increase some load to drop the voltage or I had to keep the batteries at a low level of charge. Once again I had to open up the inverter and find a voltage POT to adjust the output voltage lower. Now the front display shows around 105 to 110 volts and the actual voltage stays around 130 V which is below the UPS trip threshold. The TV failed, will never know if the high voltages contributed to the failure, junked it and got a newer and better TV making sure the power is always conditioned through the APC UPS.I've also had many over load trips, usually accounted for by motor start ups. Too bad it dosen't have a (one time) automatic restart and a longer period to allow for a motor to spin up.

saved my food during extended power outage
I've had this thing running 3days straight off my 03 VW tdi powering a fairly large samsung fridge. What can i say? It was the cheapest pure sine wave inverter of the power I need, and it has worked flawlessly. I have to give a shout to fed ex as well, they delivered it to me next day through some of the worst damage I've seen (western mass Oct 2011 snow storm). The build quality is quite good and the output is very clean(tested with a fluke rms meter). If your car can power it, I'd highly recommend this to be in your survival kit.For scientific purposes I tested powering the fridge with my tdi (works great) my wife's 91 civic (overload) and my neighbors 99 f150 (overload), so make sure your vehicle can power it if your going to be putting a serious load on it. A diesel is defiantly more suited as the diesel cycle does not require electricity, so the entire output of the alternator is available. As an aside, the tdi uses about 2gal per 24hrs to keep the fridge on. Not too bad.Gonna add, it ended up running for 6 days straight (if you have a choice avoid nat grid like the plague), and no problems. It has quite a loud fan but i think it only kicked on twice. Couple of overloads but switching it off/on resets it, hopefully reset never fails, then i'd be wishing it was K.I.S.S. with a replacable fuse. BTW, if your max or close to its ouput limit, switch on devices one at a time or it will overload with the inital burst. Definatly glad i purchased this.Since purchase, I've used this thing on several occasions with no problems. We go to a lot of music festivals and this thing is great for making coffee etc. I've also used it for power tools when working outdoors and to run a small dorm fridge in the back of my vw during road trips. Defiantly beats a cooler, and i still average 48mpg on the highway (vs 52mpg without it running).

It worked great for two years and still going strong
Bought for my RV to convert 12 V battery into a true 110 V power source. It worked great for two years and still going strong. Can't leave home without it. It can drive a toaster or a microwave less than 1000 watts.

works great.
Runs up to 1/3 hp motor but have to build wiring to combine both outlets. No noise on 55" plasma tv.Excellent accurate display of parameters.

Great Value and excellent quality
This is a quality product, has very bright LED read out. Easy to install, as the *input cables* go on the back and the *output* on the face, right next to the on off switch and readouts. the ground is also a easy attach. So its all neat and tidy when its done. This unit did not come with cables, all the previous inverters I bought did, but they were smaller wattage so those cables were cheaper , so it makes sense. I used motormaster ' starter to switch' cables, 4 gauge, you need this size of cable or bigger if you are placing the inverter further from the battery bank. TV broadband reception improved considerably with the pure sine wave power. It has a remote start and stop, which may be handy if I attach the qizmo.
