D-Link DIR-3060, EXO AC3000 WiFi 5 - No McAfee it expired 14th March 2023 on this router.
This is a good router however it is the older standard of WiFi 5, I bought this cheaply, but now I know a lot more about router standards, I would recommend anyone else to buy a WiFi 6 rated device. This router was not as easy to set up as it should have been. This was due to the lack of basic instructions. I was using the D-Link app but the router would not accept the supplied password by the app or the PC. So after a hard reset it accepted the password but still had no internet, the WiFi was working though. So back to the start again. I found a review online that told me the basic set up that i needed and it is now working. So next sort out the McAfee protection, that should be for 5 years, now I find that McAfee ended that 14 March 2023 as this router started out in 2018. D-Link Tech support for this ended Dec 2021. WiFi working fine, but I have noticed the cable connection to my PC has started to induce some lag, whilst using Amazon for instance.

DIR-3060 WiFi Router with McAfee Secure Home Software
Prior to purchasing the DIR-3060 EXO AC3000, my home setup included a Virginmedia Hub 3 router with 500Mbs fibre broadband, a lot of IOT devices, around 30 devices connecting at any one time. Includes Smart plugs, bulbs, hive, home cinema, multiple Amazon echo devices, security cameras along with smart phones, tablets and desktop devices. I also have 2 TiVo boxes, one in the lounge and another in the main bedroom. The environment is a large detached house with ground and first floor. The Hub 3 is in the lounge (ground floor) on one end and the main bedroom on the 1st floor at the opposite end on the house. The Virginmedia hub was ok but struggled for signal in the master bedroom and the TiVo boxes rarely worked when trying to play a recorded programme from one box to the other. Given the broadband speed of 500Mbs, I had nowhere near those connection speeds in a number of rooms. Connectivity to my IOT devices was ok, never had any dropouts. Due to COVID and working from home, I needed a better signal in my makeshift office (the dining room which is at the opposite end of the house from the lounge (separated by a kitchen and hallway).Prior to buying the DIR-3060, I bought and returned a TP-Link Deco M5 (problems with Amazon 4K TV Firestick, Ring camera and Sonos units connecting) and a Netgear EX8000 Mesh Smart Extender (App would not correctly identify devices and required rebooting daily or every 2 days). It was important that I had a single SSID and could roam throughout the house on my Tablet and Smartphone which ruled out a cheap WiFi extender. The DIR-3060 was delivered on 5th June 2020, setup immediately and I have waited a month or so prior to writing this review to ensure there were no problems with devices disconnecting or unreliable service. The device was delivered with v1.01 firmware. My Hub 3 is now in modem mode and DIR-3060 providing connectivity for all my devices. The bandwidth in the dining room increased from between 2-7Mbs to around 350Mbs which is a significant increase in speed. The firmware has had 2 updates and is now running on v1.11.When I initially setup the device with the default settings on v1.01 I had a problem with 1 Amazon Echo device (I had another 2 identical models which connected without any issues). My Ring camera would drop connections as well. The D-Link support was spot on, I needed to disable WiFi Mesh (I don’t have any extenders anyway) and Smart Connect (which obviously isn’t that smart!). Disabling Smart Connect still allows you to have a single SSID for 2.4GHz and the 2 x 5GHz signals which is what I wanted to have seamless connectivity throughout the house.A good tip for the Ring Camera is to fix the IP address (Reserve IP - this will only work on the main WiFi SSID and not the Guest SSID). I discovered the Ring fix by checking various forums. Also with v1.01 firmware I had problems setting up the D-Link Defend (McAfee Secure Home Platform - includes 5 year subscription), it wouldn’t work. Firmware update solved this for me. This is really useful if you have children and want to control what they can access and when. It can also be used to control access for your iOT devices. There is also a real added bonus in that you can install McAfee Antivirus (2 year subscription) on an unlimited number of computers, tablets and smartphones (I’m still running another AV solution and will change when that when the subscription runs out).A decent amount of time has passed so that I’m confident I can recommend this device if you need to have a decent Wi-Fi signal throughout the house and garden without the need to install Extenders (size and wall thickness permitting). The added security software makes this modern router an absolute bargain. WiFi 6 routers will future proof your network but comes at a premium at the moment and devices with WiFi 6 are few and far between (let’s face it, most iOT devices still only work on 2.4GHz Wireless LANs).

I would not recommend this device to anyone
For the best part of 3 years I had BT fibre 70Mbps and it ran perfectly with their Smart Hub, connecting roughly 4 wired and 15 wireless devices. These devices range from TVs, SKY Q, smart devices, games console, computers, phones and tablets. Then I got greedy and jumper ship to Virgin Media 200mb fibre because it promised to be faster and cheaper, £29 compared to £39.Initially I connected only a few devices to the Virgin Media Hub 3 and things seemed fine, absolutely no noticeable speed improvement but hey it was cheaper so I stuck it out. As I gradually started adding my devices over from the BT Hub to the Virgin Media router it started falling apart and I guess this is something I should have been aware of as there is loads of online complaints as to how bad the Virgin Media Hub 3 is at handling devices.Anyway long story short, I put my VM3 in modem mode and connected a TP-Link AC1750 router (Archer C7). This has been perfect since except signal towards the back of the house and upstairs isn’t to good. So I’ve been looking for a good mesh system to replace it and get better coverage throughout. My budget has been around £100 and so when this D-Link Covr-AX1862 came along for only £79.99 I jumped at the chance and was really looking forward to setting it up. Unfortunately there are very few reviews but I took the chance considering D-Link was an old company who supposedly made good stuff.Well, what a disappointment these devices have been I cannot believe how bad they are. I’ll list all the issues:• Security seal on box was broken so I don’t know if these are returned previously or if that was just an accident in packaging• Setup was a nightmare, they are meant to be paired out of the box but mines were just not connecting and flashing orange all the time• The Android app looks like a 5 year old has created it, very basic and low quality icons• But the Android app doesn’t just look bad, hardly ever connects and keep saying you’re not in range of the device, even though I was sitting 1 foot away from the device• Every time the Android app couldn’t find the devices, a reboot of the devices did fix it but 3 times in 1 one day and counting• Handoff, which is why I got these is non-existent, it cant connect your device efficiently from one node to another and requires your phone/ tablet/ laptop to switch off Wi-Fi and reconnect in the hopes it will connect to the nearest node• The web interface is also very basic, and doesn’t come close to that of a 9 year old TP-Link router, which is shamefulHere are some speed test results using Ookla, I ran each test 3 times and took the average, all devices were rebooted and allowed to run for few hours before testing.• Routers tested where TP-Link AC1750 (archer C7), BT Smart Hub and D-Link Covr-AX1862• Standing in the same room as the routers the speeds were the same on all devices 220Mbps down and 20Mpbs up• Standing in the next room behind one internal brick wall roughly 15ft away the speeds were the same on all devices 220Mbps down and 20Mpbs up• Standing in the next room behind one internal brick wall roughly 30ft away TP-Link 90Mbps down and 18Mpbs up, BT 130Mpbs down and 20Mbps up, D-Link 45Mbps down and 15Mbps up• First floor bedroom directly above the routers the speeds were the same on all devices 220Mbps down and 20Mpbs up• First floor 2nd bedroom TP-Link 142Mbps down and 20Mpbs up, BT 185Mpbs down and 20Mbps up, D-Link 90Mbps down and 18Mbps up• Second floor attic room TP-Link 25Mbps down and 16Mpbs up, BT 45Mpbs down and 15Mbps up, D-Link 12Mbps down and 6Mbps upI also used an Android app called Wi-Fi Speed Test and tested the speed of my Wi-Fi not the internet standing in the next room behind one internal brick wall roughly 30ft away from the routers and got an average of 225Mbit/s on TP-Link, 462Mbit/s on the BT and 173Mbit/s on the D-Link.This was a long review but I felt necessary as I’d done everything properly, all devices have the latest firmware, have been rebooted, had the same devices connected and testing was on multiple android devices including Windows 10 laptop. This took so long to setup and connect.I would not recommend this device to anyone.
