The AS-457 Grit Sharp offers a double sided diamond whetstone sharpener with a non-skid rubber base. The sharpener has a fine 600 grit and an extra fine 1200 grit, each with monocrystalline advanced technology. The fine diamond grit allows you to sharpen to a smooth and fine edge. The extra fine diamond grit will polish and hone to razor sharpness. The two stage sharpening with an interrupted surface and a continuous surface offers an ideal, all purpose sharpener. It will quickly sharpen the toughest materials, including tool steel, carbide, titanium and ceramics. It is an ideal sharpener for cutlery knives, woodworking tools, garden tools and machine tools. The sharpener has two diamond surfaces that measure 8 5/8" x 2 1/2". Sharpen dry or with water.

Not professional grade
I had to return the first one I received. The 600 grit side bulged in the center, and the 1200 grit side had several raised dimples about 0.4 mm diameter (kind of like when you spray paint over a small bug). In, the second one I got, the 600 grit side still bulged, but I figured a convex bulge was good enough to work with. The 1200 grit side was better, it had three raised dimples, they were barely visible, but you certainly knew when your knife ran over them. I was able to use the corner of another 200 grit diamond plate to grind out those dimples. So, after some "restoration", the stone was good enough to get respectable results on kitchen knives with a double bevel grind. But where it failed is when I tried to sharpen a Mora with a scandi grind. Every imperfection of the stone was magnified on the large scandi surface. It's priced much cheaper than competitors, but even after some work, you will still not have a professional level product.

BEWARE!
BEWARE!this stone does not even approach dmt brand quality. the one i received is defective, and i am returning the item.the green plastic block is not flat and straight, ergo, neither are the sharpening surfaces. the fine (600 grit) surface has numerous raised specks embedded that will scar the tool to be sharpened. the extra-fine side (1200 grit) is bowed and rounded, so it cuts unevenly on the tool. i tried a plane bottom, and it put a groove down the middle.this stone is useless.

There's no marking on this anywhere saying which side is which grit---not even on the box. I had to go back to the original ad on this and guess which side is which grit. Supposedly it is 600 and 1200 grit but I'm still not sure. Also noticed that the abrasive material on each side is not that durable and tended to smooth out after not much use. Not impressed with the quality but I should have known that for the price.

Two sides are better than one, when it comes to diamond stones.
You can't beat 2 sided stones and the real advantage with diamond coated ones is you can use water or oil as a lubricant. I prefer water. Easier to clean up. With the 2 sides on this stone you will be able to take a mediocre blade that crushes a tomato to one that will effortlessly slice through soft skinned fruits and vegetables.

That same side was also warped so certain blades wouldn't even stay in contact with the surface like they ought to
The smoothest side was rusted when it arrived, and I have no idea how to get rid of the rust without damaging the rest of the stone. That same side was also warped so certain blades wouldn't even stay in contact with the surface like they ought to.

quality sharpener
This is a fine sharpener. I like the two different options, both of which have worked great. This sharpener is excellent for fine, precise sharpening.

I have other sharpeners, this one is excellent for getting a really fine edge on knives made with good metal that can hold a sharp edge.
