Pens That Light-Up! Great For Working in The Dark!
Years ago I bought a retractable pen at Magic Mountain (Six Flags) California. It was a cool Batman pen that had a light-up tip for writing in the dark. I loved that pen. I was heavy and the light perfectly focused where I needed it when pressing the roller ball tip to page. After a couple of years and lots of use, the pen finally died. I've searched for a replacement ever since (that particular one from Six Flags has long since been discontinued, I think). My work requires that I take lots of notes while sitting in very dim light so a lighted pen (as you would imagine) comes in handy.Recently I found The Pilot's Pen by Britta products. Essentially for $20 you get two pens in a "metal" case. There are replacement batteries and rollerball refills. The pen works fine and the LED light is very bright (this can be distracting to others though). The light also spills out and is not completely focused where the light is really needed - at the tip of the pen. The pens are very light weight. This always leaves the impression that the product is not well made. Time will tell. The item arrived looking like it had been tossed off the truck. The packaging was opened and nearly fell apart when I removed it from inside the Amazon bubble-envelope. The "metal" tin is a tad delicate and was bent as if from impact after being dropped or from something falling on it. This does not prevent the case from opening so it's not a huge deal. The important part is that whatever trauma the box and case endured, the pens themselves where unscathed. For now, i like the pens fine. If I could just find that one from Six Flags though....

High quality pens but disassembly is a real pain
This is a set of two very nice illuminated pens which comes with extra ink and batteries. The first two clicks engage and disengage the writing tip. The next two clicks do the same, but also toggle the light on and off.The LED light is very bright and will shock your vision when you turn it on. I found that covering up the LED in my palm and waiting 30 seconds does wonders to reduce the initial brightness. It is quite difficult to change the batteries and successfully reassemble the pen. The battery pack has an extremely tiny copper clip which conducts current. This clip is loosely held on by friction and if you are not aware of it, it is easily lost upon disassembly.Reassembly is not straightforward and the instructions are not very helpful. On my first attempt, I accidentally lodged the battery clip cover in the upper chamber and it took me 20 minutes to figure out what happened. After another 30 minutes, I finally figured out a way to retrieve it: bend the end of a paper clip into a 60 degree angle and feed it through a hole in the battery clip cover. You should be able to yank it out after a couple of tries and attempt reassembly again.I found these to be very high quality pens and would have gave them five stars is it weren't for the issues with disassembly,

The cap broke trying to replace the battery that died after only 9 weeks
The pen light works fine but my battery didn’t last long. I need this pen light because I ride a school bus and I have to keep track of who rides and where they sit. It’s dark in the morning and we can’t ride around with the lights on inside the bus. The battery was already dying before the end of the first 9 weeks. That’s cool though I figured it sat in a warehouse for a while. I ordered all these replacements. The instructions say that you can separate the cap from the battery pack with just a fingernail but I can tell you mine was not budging. I ended up wrapping a tag around the base and gently trying to pry the cap off with an eyeglass screwdriver. Busted and the copper strip went flying so now my pen is useless and I’ve got 12 replacement batteries.

Best Pen Ever to Write in Dark
Do you ever need to jot something down quickly but," It's just too dark in here" ?This pen is the best to take care of that issue. Try it once and seewhat a difference it can make in the life of anyone who depends on being able to write in the dark; a pilot writing in a darkened cockpit, a nurse writing down patient vitals in dimly lit hospital rooms,a writer needing to get down the images from a dream to begin that new chapter. Anyone would be pleased to have this pen that writes in the dark. The tiny halogen bulb is located at the bottom of the pen and lights up your entire writing space; no eyestrain. This set of two pens is a win-win, with extra batteries and an extra ink refill for each pen! I was beyond pleased with this purchase and I will buy it again.

Would buy again.
I gave this as a gift to a graduate nurse with a job in an ER on night shift. She didn't write a thank you note, but she never does, so I don't know if she really liked it or whether she has found it useful Her mother told me she liked it. I had a similar one years ago which was bought at a stationery store and cost a bundle. I used it when my NICU unit required dim lighting during our night shift and it allowed me to see what I was writing in the dark. I inspected this purchase myself and I didn't think it looked cheap or flimsy. I am thinking of buying one for myself. I don't know if you could use it as a pen light or not, as I didn't take it out of the packaging and put it together. I bought pens with penlights from Miles Kimball and really like those. They are inexpensive; they hold up well; it's easy to replace the batteries, and it comes in vivid colors so you can spot them in your purse or drawer. The ink in those was great and didn't skip. I still have two of them. The others got stolen!
