Best Customer Service EVER from PetSafe
I bought and installed this unit and it worked great for about 3 months, at which point the transmitter went bad. Although I was disappointed, I cannot say enough about PetSafe customer service - it was BEYOND outstanding! They shipped a replacement unit immediately, after asking me to do a short-loop test to verify the unit was bad. Initially, I had borrowed my son's unit to test for breaks in the wire (his unit worked great), but PetSafe wanted the short-loop test. It was easy enough to do and verified a unit problem existed. Again, customer service was awesome, and the rep I spoke with was very professional and willing to resolve the issue right then. Love my PetSafe system, even though I had a hiccup with the transmitter.

I bought the RF-1010 system 18 years ago and the ...
I bought the RF-1010 system 18 years ago and the original transmitter finally gave it up a few days ago. It would transmit but was only effective on a 100 foot test loop out to about 25 feet then the signal was not there. I ordered a replacement and expect it to arrive any minute now. For all these years, I have been able to keep two cats and two dogs safe with this system on a 1.5 acres enclosure. Tell me what last this long other than gold! Thanks, Pet Safe.P.S. Received the replacement today and installed it. Now the system is as strong and efficient as ever!

Great replacement for my in ground fence transmitter.
My last transmitter was struck by lightning because I stupidly did not hook it up to the surge protector. This replaced my old system perfectly and worked immediately. All I had to do was hang it in the same spot as the old one, attach it to the surge protector and then attach the in ground wires to the surge protector.

14 years in, here's what I can tell you
We've used this system since our Golden was a puppy, and he turns 14 next month....so I've learned a bit about Golden Retrievers and this pet containment system.1. This system has worked well for us with a 70# energetic (well...he used to be, anyway) dog, but we did have to upgrade to the optional collar that uses a 9V battery rather than watch batteries for this size dog to keep him from just running right through the fence.2. We have a full acre fenced, and it works for that but only on it's highest setting (the ABC switch) and turned up to about 9.3. I just replaced the control box for the 3rd time. The first one last about 6 or 7 years as did the second one. Changing out the control box takes about a minute, so it's easy to do. The next time I buy one, I may just get 2 to keep a spare on hand when it inevitably fails again. Failure mode is all the lights go off and it quits working. The wall-wart puts out 12-14 volts AC. So, if you are checking your power supply...look for AC power not DC.4. I've replaced the entire ground loop once. The wire the original kit came with 14 years ago rotted away within 5 years due to UV breakdown of the wire's insulation, then corrosion of the copper conductor. The replacement wire I purchased seems to be higher quality, and is holding up well.5. It's got our dog to 14 living along a busy road. Once we got the new higher powered collar, he's only gotten agitated enough a couple of times to run out of the yard and friendly neighbors have quickly brought it to our attention. With the standard collar, he would get out of the yard about once a month....so that was not ideal.Pretty good product especially at this price point. Just know up front that after 5 to 7 years you will need to replace all or part of it.

Does what it is supposed to do but have to replace it seems every 3-5 years.
It's nice that Amazon sells just the transmitter - because that is the part of the "invisible fence" pet containment system that invariably fails every 3-5 years. Until I discovered Amazon had them, I was buying the the entire kit locally and have two 500 feet spools of wire, multiple receivers and a gazillion flags. But for whatever reason - and there probably is some reason - the transmitter eventually fails I've never replaced a receiver (the part on the dogs collar). We get moles in the yard and they would cut through the thin wire that comes in the kits. I took care of that buy using 14 gauge wire solid instead. That wire seems to be mole proof. But the transmitter's seem to have a life span of 3-5 years.I wish the transmitters lasted forever like the other components. But over the transmitters life span, $20-$30 a year to keep my dog in the yard is worth it.

Reliable and keeps my dog on my property
I purchased this to replace one I have had for a long time! We have 10 acres and we needed to keep our dog out of the pastures and away from the road. This is a good product and I will continue to use it. We fenced in a large portion and it works great!

Great replacement unit
I had to replace my 11 year old transmitter recently and this unit is exactly the same as the one I had so replacement was very simple. Just connect the wires and plug it in. I was happy to find that after 11 years they still had the same unit and I would not have to go through a bunch of things in order to get my system working again. Hopefully it will last as long as the original.

Lasted Four Months
It worked fine at first. I installed it as instructed in July of 2019 and made sure there was a surge protector. In November it stopped working completely. I called customer service and they replaced it without question...including a new surge protector. They hesitated to overnight the replacement unit but I pressured them and they finally agreed. There was no way I was going to go without our invisible fence for 7-10 days.
