A little too easy
The author does a good job describing the world and the creatures in it, I thought it was very vivid. Also I love the proper British adventurer sidekick. The fight scenes are pretty good too. However, some of the emotional resolutions in the book just felt very lazy.Dramatic reenactment:"Hey, you remember that traumatic thing that happened years ago and you never really came back from? How about you tell me about that?""I'd really rather not, given we have only known each other for five minutes, but ok."...some time later"So I am just going to put this out there, you have been missing (obvious thing). So how about you turn that frown upside down?""Thanks hero! You're amazing!""No prob. Got any evil to fight around here?""Sure, let's go get dinner first though, my treat.""Works for me.""You know there is a sexy dryad humping your leg now?""She does that sometimes."(Was much better in his other books)

Good first book to the series
This book starts out strong with lots of action and fast pacing. Good introductions to characters aswell as good humor. About 1/3 of the way through the book the action slows significantly but on the plus side the pacing stays consistent. The last 1/3 picks right back up with the high intensity and takes you right through to the end.On the Plus side by the time the slow part hits your already hooked and it's well worth some slower parts to flush out the story. The only real complaint I have about the book is the change of viewpoint which should only be used sparingly and when absolutely necessary. This book had more viewpoint changes than i thought were needed.

Just didn't offer anything new
This is a bit of Alice through the Looking Glass combined with a strange flavor of Pokémon or Digimon. Not explicitly, but in the way the plot is developing. The hero is a young man headed to check out something his father told him in a letter. It leads him to a cave and the cave leads to a world where there is magic and girls with powers having been enslaved by an evil being.Of course, as the hero advances through the plot, he rescues girls and then uses them in the next fight against other enslaved girls, etc. It's in its own way very cliché.And I have to laugh a bit at the ending. I don't want to spoil it, but I have to say that the cliffhanger at the end made it very clear that the main villain has clearly never read Peter Anspach's Handbook of the Evil Overlord. Its not bad, just nothing special, so 3 stars.

Characters
Many of your peers can certainly pen an excellent story, with tense action and sensuous moments intermingled throughout, but I don’t think they can touch your characters. You seem to really care about them, and it shos. Thank you sir.

The one to bed them all
While Hero Academy was a really good book, Branded just felt a step up. The overall start of the book was better giving the reader a better explanation of the world, a better look at our MC, and better point of view chapters. Even the harem element felt better with the sequence of events leading to the erotic content. Can't wait to see who else gets added to the group and getting to see a bit more of Libs. Although, I do hope we get a little bit more concerning Will's mom, like was she a non-human species or not, and if that has some ramifications in the future.

Well made.
The book was well written and the plot interesting my only concern is that the whole book was fast paced and I feel that it is unrealistic for the people he talks to would just instantly drop whatever grudge or pain that has been troubling them all their lives. Yes it can be simply explained as magic but it feels a tad rushed. Other than that I really loved this book and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more.

Managing your brand
Magical slavery comes at the end of a brand. In a world overrun by the imposition of slavery compelled by magical brands one man from the upper world descends to wield Libertas and free the underworld. Great new world and an interesting idea of how magic could be employed. I’m looking forward to the next installment.

A good read!
I liked the pace of the action. The characters and their personalities were well done. I also liked the fact that they adapted to the new world very quickly. Overall it’s a good read and I will buy the next one when it becomes available.

A good start.
I was actually quite surprised that I liked this book as when I read the description of the story it didn't quite jump out at me. But after the initial couple of pages I was hooked. So heres to hoping for a book 2 and what that'll bring.
