ARIAT Heritage Lacer II Boots - Women’s Leather Ankle Work Boot

I went through a journey getting the size right, but I’m glad I did. These are beautiful shoes, and so far I’m impressed with the quality. Ariat has a size chart on their website that you can print out, which I actually found very accurate. The only reason I got my size wrong the first time is because I tried on their Heritage IV Paddock in-store and found the toe box to be way too tight and stiff in my normal size, so I went way up. But that’s a completely different shoe! I think these are true-to-size, except for width. For reference, I’m normally a 9.5/10 with a *big* big toe, slightly narrow feet and high arches. I ordered 11 first, which just looked and felt clownishly big. I then went down to 10, which fit okay, but I still felt a little slippage. So I bit the bullet and bought a 9.5. Those felt a little tight, especially for my big toe. I think they technically would have fit with some extra breaking in, but ultimately I decided to just throw some arch support inserts into my 10s and those fit perfectly fine now. The best part is that the toe box is roomy, and the leather seems soft enough to break in if needed. I’m the type of person who wears the same boot year-round in all weather until they completely fall apart. I was tired of replacing my shoes every year, so I decided to splurge on these for the style and quality. (I’ll update my review when they fall apart, but I’m hoping to get at least a couple years out of these with care.) I literally had no other shoes left to wear the first time I wore these, which was at an amusement park for several hours. By the end of the day I was a little uncomfortable, but nothing unbearable. They keep getting more comfortable with use. I’ve worn them a couple times in rain and they did let water in. Since I will continue wearing these in snow and rain, I will use mink oil and update on how they hold up to road salt and water. In short, if you have wide, or even average width feet, consider getting wide if you can. And use Ariat’s online size guide for these. I used it and it put me between 9.5 and 10, which was true. If you’re using inserts or thick socks, consider going up a half size. And give the glove-like feel a chance. At first they all felt hard to pull on, but then I remembered I’m used to wearing old, worn-out shoes! As long as they’re not causing serious pain, they should break in and become more pliable. As for style, I’ve had them a month and I can’t stop admiring them. I might not ride horseback, but I need a good shoe that can take a beating, while still looking good in all situations. These fit the bill. I plan to be a returning customer!

Update: I bought my current pair in April of 2017. It's now October of 2018 and I'm about to buy another pair. The fact that these boots lasted nearly 2 full busy seasons (April - November) for me is pretty impressive. I am VERY hard on boots. I NEVER clean/oil them (I know, I know, I should. I don't) and I wear them 5-6 days a week for 7-8 hours a day. I don't wear them for about 3 months in the winter since they're not a winter boot, but otherwise I wear them all the time. They have been very comfortable for me to work, teach lessons and ride in. I do have special insoles in them, but I have plantar fasciitis and with the special insole I can wear these boots no problem, all day. Even after this much use, the outer sole of these boots look excellent! The stitching is coming apart at the heel and the toe is cracking, but these would probably not be as much of a problem if I actually oiled and cared for my boots. I do usually ride 2-3 horses a day too, so the strain on the back of the heel and toe are to be expected. But, I am very happy with them and I'm buying my next pair. These appear to be fairly sturdy boots, but I have only worn them for about 2 weeks. They are a little snug around the ball of my foot and across the top and I do not measure as a wide and have never had to buy a wide before. They are pretty comfy out of the box though and provide enough support. I'm hopeful that they will hold up, but I have not been impressed with Ariat's lifespan in the past.

I ordered an 8 wide because another reviewer mentioned they were very narrow boots. I’m glad I did! They fit great and the ankle is snug enough to fit half chaps comfortably.

These are a quality pair of boots. I have always LOVED Ariats, however this was my first pair of lace up Ariats. Unlike all the pull on Ariat Boots I've been wearing for untold years these actually required a short breaking in period which I was not really expecting. No blisters or anything extreme like that. Just a bit of mild discomfort, which in the world of breaking in boots is really nothing but for review purposes worth mentioning. I chose to switch to a lace up boot for the ankle support (I have extra long ligaments) and other unrelated reasons (children). I had a pair years and years ago from another brand and expected a similar feel from these. I was surprised at how "loose" these felt due to the stretch insert around the ankle. There is a small insert at either side of the ankle, I'm sure it's listed in the description but I forget the name. This left me without the structured feeling I was looking for. Not because the boot isn't well made, it is! It is a wonderful boot. Simply because this stretchy part at the ankle, which I'm uncertain of the purpose for, causes a sort of loose feeling, for me personally. I find myself lacing the boots too tight to get that stability, then loosening them after 10 minutes or so. Or the opposite happens; aware that I do this I try not to lace them to tight and end up lacing them too loose. I think perhaps the problem is my rather bony ankles. I have had the boots for probably 6 months now and I am getting better about this, but every once in a while I still do this, which aggravates me. I really love Ariat boots and this is a well made boot, just not for the goal I was trying to achieve. But I will say that these boots are made quite well and seemingly with quality materials. I have exposed these to sand, clay, dirt, and contaminated soil that food cannot be grown in. They have withstood the head, cold, moisture, 85lb dogs, 80lb boy, ATV, you name it my family has likely put these boots through it. And yes, these Ariat lace up boots have performed beautifully, they just have a little bit too much give in the ankles for me, personally.

Due to the pointed toe, I ordered a larger size than reccomended. I intended to add sole inserts but the size was snug. I needed the boots for a trip immediately and decided to forgo the inserts. After wearing them for 5 days straight as my only walking shoes (with no added support) while working on my feet, I am very pleased. Solid, sturdy shoes. I will update in a few months of wear walking and horseback riding. Previous ariat boots of a similar style have lasted me a decade. If I can get even close to half that I'll be thrilled.

I'm a lifelong horsewoman and if I'm actually buried with my boots on, they'll be Ariats. The brand's construction, eye appeal and functional design are consistent and reliable. I've worn brown lacers for almost a decade. This time I tried the black lacers and I actually like this softer, deer tan leather better! Sizing is accurate, but in my experience Ariat boots tend to run a little long in the foot so I am able to size down 1/2 size. These are stylish, comfortable boots for casual wear, barn work and riding.

I have owned Ariat boots for as long as I can remember. Thier design, timeless style, quality, and longevity has been the reasons to why I keep Ariat a staple boot in my wardrobe. That being said, my most recent purchase of the Ariat Heritage Lacer II has left me feeling disappointed. When looking at the boots they look like they’re made the same as my original pair but sadly they don’t match the feel of the original pair. The new pair of boots are extremely hard. They are so hard the feel like steel toe boots as you can’t push down on the top of the boots at all. I have no clue where my toes are which means I can’t tell if they are fitting properly. The other thing is the laces. They too are super stiff. So stiff that they don’t want to stayed tied. They as well are quite short so you barely get them tied. I ended up buy a different pair of laces. The most upsetting part is that they are not very comfortable. All my other Ariat boots including my original Heritage Lacers have all been super comfortable from the start, right out of the box, needing no break-in period - but these do. I’m hoping that they will soften and get comfortable enough to wear all day long like I have always been able to. In all I am really disappointed. For sizing - I purchased a size 8 (standard width) which is true to my normal size in shoes and boots, as well has been the same size I’ve worn for years. (With the exception of Ugg and Birkenstock. Ugg I’m a 7 and Birkenstock I am a 37)

J'aime beaucoup mes bottes. Elles me font très bien. Je chausse des 10, mais j'ai les pieds un peu étroits. En plus d'être jolies, elles sont confortables et légères. Le cuir est beau. Je ne les utiliserai pas pour travailler à l'écurie, mais à la maison et pour des sorties.

I absolutely love the leather, fit, style and feel in the stirrup with these boots. They have the perfect amount of support through the sole without being cumbersome. I am incredibly picky and have generally disliked the majority of paddock boots however these ones are total winners in all aspects!
