ViewSonic X10-4K True 4K UHD Short Throw LED Portable Smart Home Theater Projector (2019 Model)

Current setup: Elite Screens Manual 150" MaxWhite at 1.1 Gain, Old Onkyo HT-R550 surround sound (7.1), XBox One X, set up 2.5' up from the ground and 11' back from wall on table in very dark room @ sea level +/-200 ftI had previously planned on purchasing an Optoma UHD 60 or Epson 4010 as a 4k upgrade to my dated projector. After comparing specifications and wandering around showroom floors, I went with the X10-4K for primarily 2 reasons. First, I have some use for a portable projector, and love the mobile design features of the X10. Second, I want a projector that will last me a while. The X10-4k is the only projector with a checked that box, given the estimated 30,000 hours of use (I would be happy getting 1/2 of that). I had not expected the high-contrast, clear picture with an exceptionally deep pallet of colors. The device is very quiet and smaller than I expected (I had though it may be as large as some of the Epson 4k projectors). I also recieved mine with a sticker indicating the firmware was updated. The controller is fine, with a few issues of latency (in particular, the "Ok" button does not consistently respond without holding it down for a second or two). Since I have mine on a table directly in front of me, the remote responds 9/10 times (sensor seems to be in the back of the device). I am watching movies using my XBox One X, so I cannot provide a comment as to the apps native to the X10-4k (and would take my XBox with me to other locations). I will provide an update in 2-3 weeks once I've broken the device in a bit.Update (3 weeks later): although the input lag on this device is listed as between 66-100ms, I had trouble noticing any substantial differences playing competitive mode in Overwatch (I did tweak sensitivity controls for this), team deadthmatch on CoD, and Outer Worlds. The apps seem to work on par with mid-tier smart TVs, and the 2-3 movies I watched in 4k didn't have any issues (used at friend's place with Netflix, approximately 100mb/second at his house). Love the portability. No complaints to date, glad to have taken a chance on it. Since I didn't mention it on the first review, I did not receive any special deal on this device. I also rarely leave reviews, but felt I needed to in this case.

First and foremost, please note, I am a real customer and no one asked me to leave this truthful review. I just know how important reviews are to me and I always appreciate it when someone takes the time to write one so I'm returning the favor so to speak.Firstly, I was very impressed with the aesthetics, packaging, how easy it was to set this up, and how good the 4K image was considering this was just $1,499. I was super skeptical at this price point but they delivered! This was even comparable to the new $3,299 Optoma P1 projector I have (which I'm returning because it seems buggy), shockingly. In fact, the picture seems slightly better to me than the new Optoma CinemaX P1 ultra short throw projector which is 3x the money. Crazy, I know!I didn't have any of the issues other people are claiming with this unit (they either got a lemon or it is user error like in most cases, in my own opinion). Also, if you don't like the feature that automatically turns off the screen when someone walks in front of the projector, just simply disable it in the menu. I did and it worked.FOCUS FEATURE: Some complain about the auto-focus feature. I didn't have any issues with it but you can turn it off if you want to manually adjust the focus. The only thing I don't like is that I cannot manually adjust the focus while the movie is on in the background like you can do on the Optoma P1, but this isn't a deal breaker, just a minor inconvenience. Who knows, maybe I'm doing something wrong but doubtful.REMOTE CONTROL... It's true that the spinning wheel feels flimsy but it does work so it wasn't a big deal to me. Someone on here complained that the buttons didn't respond well to pressing them but I didn't have that issue so they may have gotten a defective remote (happened to me with a Roku remote before too) which can happen with any product, any brand, any time.PICTURE QUALITY: I played 4K content from Netflix on this (through my connected Roku 4K StreamStick Plus into the HDMI 1 port) and was very happy with the picture. Better than I expected for the price! It seemed a little better than the Optoma P1, shockingly!! However, I feel it doesn't looks as bright and sharp as the $2,699 VAVA 4K ultra throw projector I tested too but that projector has 6,000 lumens so it goes without saying. Thankfully, I was able to fill my entire 110-inch screen from just 6.5-inch distance from the screen which is very pleasant. Please note... if you want full HD and 4K streaming, you will need a good streaming device like a Roku 4K player, Amazon Firestick 4K, etc. You will not be able to get HD/4K out of the built in apps, even Netflix, but this will be a limitation with most projectors too (like with the Optoma P1).SPEAKERS: I will be honest... they sounds pretty decent (a little boxy) so don't expect powerful base for action movies and whatnot. If you want that TV speaker sound, this will satisfy, even moreso than a TV with cheap speakers, but not as good as a good soundbar or surround sound system. Please note, the fans can be heard, especially if the projector will be next to you so unless you can tune that out, you may be disappointed. The fan noise is not very loud but definitely noticeable.STREAMING APPS: Buyers should be aware... from what I've read, most projectors that allow built-in apps like Netflix play back only in 480por 720p - probably because the streaming companies don't allow it since they sell their own streaming devices. I can confirm, this projector and the Optoma P1 will not playback in HD or 4K if streaming from within the projector. You must connect a streaming device that supports those resolutions to get those results. For example, I used a Roku 4K Streaming Stick and I connected it to HDMI 1 on this projector.HDR: Remember, projectors cannot produce HDR to levels of LED TVs or OLED TVs so don't expect it to blow you away like a TV but projectors certainly came a long way and you do get an image like at the cinema.Final word: I'm just a regular consumer but I have very high standards for my TVs and projectors and I have a keen eye for details, and given that I am impressed with this budget-friendly projector, that says a lot. But don't expect the best or the brightest output but definitely good. I haven't tested it but I think this will perform good in daylight if your shades/curtains are closed. If you want good 4k quality but can't afford to buy an expensive unit, buy this bad boy if you have the space for the distance required to achieve the size you want. For example, for me to fill my 110" screen fully, this needed to be 6.5 feet back from the screen. Make sure you have enough room to get the image size you want. Otherwise, get an ultra short throw like the VAVS 4K ultra short throw projector. If you can get any type of projector on any budget, go for the VAVA 4K UST Projector. I've only tested it for one day so far so I cannot speak for the durability of it yet. I will say, the VAVA did freeze up on me once when I was focusing the lense and had to force restart it. It was fine after that and the picture blew me away!

Where do I start..... Despite this being an extremely new product, with zero reviews on Amazon, I decided to make this my big bang purchase on Amazon Prime Day. Amazon was claiming the price was marked down exponentially, I loved the look of the device, its portability, its 4K quality to upgrade from my 5 year old 1080P projector, and its Harmon/Kardon speakers.Un-boxing the product was simple and the projector, itself, looks stellar. Booting it up let me hear the great Harmon/Kardon speakers. Sadly, this is were the fun stopped and the torment began....First, the remote would hardly work on the projector. The button pressing was severely delayed, and the projector would only read a button press about 1/5 of the time regardless of where you pointed it. (The support team said this is not uncommon)Second, I could not, for the life of me, get a square image on the wall unless it was EXACTLY 5 feet high and about 4 ft from the wall. Who would want that?! It would place the projector right in the middle of everyone's line of sight. I tried upside down, etc.... to no avail. Although the image looked stellar, this thing is a joke and I cannot believe it made it to market. Upon reaching out to support, they acknowledged that this projector is meant to be in one spot per screen size and cannot be changed or altered in the slightest.This projector also has a "feature" that senses if someone is in front of it and turns it off for 3 seconds. Imagine watching tv and if someone passes it, the screen shuts off for 3 seconds. HORRIBLE idea. I would have honestly lived w/ it and hopefully figured out how to tweak it if this thing even gave me a chance of installing it.The options to tweak the projector are scant, at best. I thought I had to be missing something. "Advanced" options just let me slightly alter the shape of the picture.I've owned projectors my entire life. This was an absolute letdown and I missed out on all of the other major TV deals. I am sure there is someone out there who can achieve the perfect setup for this thing as the picture and sound were stellar, but for me, the juice was not even close to worth the squeeze. Please stay away from this thing like the plague.

We gave the projector a go, as it met all the specs we were looking for on paper, but were a bit hesitant by the negative reviews. As Amazon’s return policy is tip top, it seemed low risk for the high reward of a short throw LED 4K projector at this price point. I’m pleased to say it far exceeded expectations (especially with the lumen number, we were using a lamp based 3500lm that broke down, the brightness is easily equal or brighter than what we were used to, maybe the bulb fading was hard to monitor in the last year or so? Hard to tell) and we’re really excited with the 4K HDR difference. The box came with a ‘firmware upgraded’ sticker on the box so maybe there has been some improvements under the hood, the whole ‘eye protection’ issue isn’t a thing anymore, with that sorted and no other issues so far, I guess the software folks have been busy.

I wanted to get a few pics from this projector up because it seems there’s much curiosity right now. I can’t argue with the other reviewers about some of the issues surrounding this projector and I’m not ready to give it a full review as I haven’t had it long enough. I wanted to get these pics up for anyone who was curious about the quality of the picture. I’m very happy with the pixel shifted 4K. I’m not so happy with the contrast and have that turned all the way up, I’ve been reading this may be the way it is with led projectors. So far, I’m very happy with my purchase tho there have been a few issues here and there but I don’t know if they are the fault of the projector, the hdmi cable or the Roku Stick. I’m happy to answer any questions, if I can. I’m not an expert at all so can’t get too technical. A couple of the pics are 1080p because my brand new Roku seems to be crashing when playing 4K YouTube.9-15-19 updateJust want to add, after having this for a couple of months, there are many little issues that I wish were polished out before this projector was released. I will mention them all in this update. The remote only works when it’s close to the projector. I’ve had a couple of instances where the remote ( including my Harmony One) will not function with the projector at all. I have to push the button on top to get the projector to turn on. I’ve had a two instances where the picture was very washed out mostly on one side. I had one instance where the picture was completely black on one side. I’ve had an instance where there was no picture at all and I had to turn the projector off and on again to get a pic. There have been several instances where there were strange color artifacts on the screen. So far, this is it. I will update if anything else strange happens. I’m knocking this review down to three stars because I’m still liking this projector, for the most part. I’m beginning to think I paid way too much for incomplete tech though.

Using this with the 4K fire stick has been great. I programmed the fire stick remote to also control the projector and it’s pretty seamless! I don’t know who would put this thing on their coffee table since the power cord is still there waiting to be tripped on but this thing is great when mounted! The 4K picture is truly a game changer at 120”. Can never go back to a tony tv screen.

This has a lot of great features that work well, but what doesn't work rendered it unusable for us.This projector is really good looking, projects a surprisingly good image for the price, and has decent sound for a small room.To start, there's next to no documentation in the package, and not much online, save for what other purchasers have posted, so, while most of the setup was very intuitive, troubleshooting the few but serious problems was a challenge.Unfortunately, the remote app required to link to Google or Alexa didn't even allow me to register (wouldn't send an email, no response from customer service and no answers after much searching), so the assistant features were unusable. Not the end of the world, because the traditional remote it came with worked ok.The image was surrounded by a lot of light bleed where the keystone adjustment was made (and you will always be using keystone adjustment, because this projects dead ahead, so the projector will always be between you and the wall, meaning it has to point up or down at the projection surface). The ability to manually adjust the image was limited. I was able to sharpen when the auto focus gave us a blurry image, but not zoom in or out to adjust screen size. No moving the projection side to side of up or down either, without moving the unit itself or using its tilt stand.The killer was the feature to turn off the projection when someone walks in front of the projector. First of all, I don't think anyone wants this. The annoying part of walking in front of the projector is the image interruption, not the second of brightness for the passer by.Secondly, this feature was being activated repeatedly, despite no one and nothing being even close to the projection path (we cleared everything away!)This meant that the image just cut out for a second to thirty seconds at a time every couple of minutes. Sometimes it would be fine for fifteen or do, then it would happen again. This makes using the projector for gaming nearly impossible, and is frustrating when watching tv or movies.This feature cannot be disabled based on everything I've read and tried so far.There were so many elegant little touches and nice features, but ultimately, we couldn't use this and had to return it due to a few poorly implemented components. Hopefully View Sonic can improve on this for a round two, because it's so close and the price point is great.

(Leave the rest as is) ;-)Optics are solid and evenly sharp (autofocus is perfect)...2D (4K) is surprisingly good ...3D exceptional ... (being a true 3D fan)NOTE: it's 2400 ANSI LED Lumens EASILY beats 3200 ANSI LAMP Lumens! Visually, by perception - in real life, at least!The price I bought was ~900 GBP in December 2019 (with a stroke of BIG luck) - Although VERY satisfied, still think that the £1500+ price tag is too much! ... Anything below £900 is a MUST!ProblemsPlenty of smart functions though, ... tried ONLY (its own) YouTube app...Well, ... it works.You can start the projector with a phone, tablet, PC ...But ... for a lot of apps, you'll need a mouse (Bluetooth connected I presume).To be honest ... I am not really into these 'smart' options anyway ... I control everything through PC (movies, games, 'TV', ...)...Now, after 3 years of daily usage for more than 10 hours/daily, I still say:It is worth it.... BUT:The number of dead pixels appeared, and it looks like they are multiplying.Usually black and small ones, still tolerable.Not the 2-3 white one, especially noticeable in a darker background...LED lamp works perfectly, with no issues.Sound as well.

Works best with an AppleTv/Android box connected to it, built in android is useful but a bit tricky to get to do all you want. It has its flaws. But I absolutely love it. Great sound built in, great 4k showing (native 1080p scaled up). Fairly silent, much quieter than most projectors.It is a bit sensitive to daylight so make sure you can make it dark where you want to use it. But I pretty much use it all the time, I don't have a TV anymore.Short throw. I have 120 inch from about 2,3 meters. I will get buy another one of these once they are 8k native in a few years. Love it!
