Good product with a good price
This is a good product. My doggy kept having very bad allergic reaction to topical drops so I decided to give the collar a try. I have been using it for a several months and no fleas on him. In all this time we found a tick on him and it was dead so it came out very easily. We live in an area where deer ticks are a big problem and I was surprised how efficient this product is. An most important of all, he has no allergic reaction on it of any kind. Something people should be aware is that this collar contain white poison powder so always need to wash your hands after handling the animal, and not allow the animal on the bed. I put the collar on him without gloves on and I had no reaction on it but everyone is different so put gloves on when putting it on the dog. It's very easy to put on. Just take it out of the packaging, remove the staple that is holding it together, stretch out very well (that activates the collar and releases the white powder), put in on the dog and cut off the remaining part. For my small dog I have to cut a huge chunk it's even long enough for a second collar for him. It lasts around 2-3 months, but I usually change it every 5 weeks to be safe. Also, our dog didn't have a flea or tick problem to begin with and the collar maintains it that way.

collars made my dogs sick
I used hartz flea collars for years and never had any problems. But I think the ingredients changed. These collars are very strong smelling. I bought five of these flea collars and put them on my doxies and a day later they started vomiting and had diarrhea. My one doxie was coughing so much she looked like she was going to die. Not only this but if you buy these you better wear gloves because my hands were burning after touching them even after washing them many times they were burning. The flea collars on the dogs were giving me headaches and acting up my asthma I couldn't have the dogs close to me and I was feeling sick. So off they went. I threw them all away. Bathed my doxie. After two days there all doing good and no more vomiting and no diarreah and no more coughing. I don't know what they did to change these flea collars. But it's very scary. Prayed for all my doxies and there all doing good.

It use to work!
I've used these collars many years ago but for some reason they do not work. My fur babies still had fleas. I will admit it gave them some and I do mean some protection the first day and I didnt find any fleas near the collar area. They were mostly in the rear, belly, and back area. The price was great as I got 2 collars, one for each dog. Not sure if the formula changed but it's not the same anymore.

These do not work!
Hartz has been offering pet products for many years, unfortunately these do not keep fleas off dogs. I used flea shampoo on my dog then opened and stretched the collar per the instructions, no fleas for 2-3 days. Then I noticed my dog scratching again, I checked her for fleas and seen several on her. She’s a wennie dog with a short coat! The old saying still holds true, you get what you pay for, time to move up to a collar that will actually do the job. I do not recommend Hartz flea collars.

An inexpensive solution to a common problem.
We live on a farm, in a rural area which provides an abundant habitat for fleas and ticks. I buy a pair of these collars every summer for our free ranging farm dog, Barney. On a recent visit to the vet I signed a consent form that stated he would be treated for fleas and or ticks at my expense if they deemed he needed such mitigation. But he DIDN'T. These collars work very well for my purpose.

Good for prevention but not cure
Last year I put these on my dogs and it stopped them from having fleas. This year they still had fleas a week after putting new collars on. I think if the fleas get established and there’s larva / eggs then these collars aren’t enough. Also, they stink of poison. But, a good price, and good for prevention.

Waiting Patiently
The Jury's still out for Hertz Ultra Guard Flea & Tick collar. We brought several for all of our dogs and cats. So far I have seen only 1 flea & several tiny ticks, but that's pretty good since we are surrounded by acres of woods & fields. Waiting to see if this product will infact last 7 months.

Keeps the Fleas Away
One of my dogs is allergic to flea medication that you put on their skin so we have to get creative with keeping the fleas away and I love this flea collar! Since my dog is 5 pounds, we wrap the flea collar around her neck 2X and she still has extra length that I end up cutting off. I give her a flea bath each week and then she wears this collar and it keeps the fleas away!
