Love this fun poetry, especially about spitting!

I heard Jenny Joseph interviewed on NPR many years ago, and have since added a fair amount poetry and writing authored by women to the literature classes I teach. I have found this book to be particularly valuable as regards promoting an increased awareness of women - not just their writing - but also how the human condition is uniquely evinced and exemplified by the women in our world. I also feel that this is an excellent book for discussion and for helping young men begin - while YOUNG - to be sensitive to and respectful of women in general. Gentlemen seem to be a vanishing breed these days; perhaps this book's eloquent poetry and revealing anecdotes about women can help foster a bit more understanding and mutual appreciation. My wife and I have given several copies as gifts, and they have always been well-received.

Very cute, wonderful poem.

I bought it because the title was interesting. The booklet itself was a suggestion from amazon as I was perusing and purchasing books from the 'Red Hat Society'...which are all full-length paperback book and stories-not poems.However-this one is on me for not checking..this is a small book, about the size of my hand, with 34 pages...it is an illustrated poem...From the title, I thought is was something totally different. Should have read the description. If this is what you are buying, then of course this is it...some very poignant-but also stereotypical-comments about those of us getting up that age-hill; maybe ordering this by accident was not really that accidental and this is God trying to tell me something. However, I am intensely averse to the color purple and hope my color vision shall be preserved for a long time-so as not to become that old woman who wears purple..other than that, my girl-friends and I will get a good laugh out of this...

Charming text . Good book to give to younger people, because time will come when they understand. Like the movie Shirley Valentine

I love this poem but the book layout and illustrations were disappointing. the book "When I am an Old woman I Shall wear Purple" contains many poems and I would recommend purchasing it and bypass this one.

This little book contain the most fantastic poem accompanied by relevant sketch drawings. Just one poem but it really does make you say 'yes, that's me and I may just start practising now!'. It makes a great little stocking filler or perhaps even a ladies book for the shelf in the powder room - it certainly beats the numerous golf books that are often found in there! A real winner.
