What took me so long?
I'm not an avid cyclist - that is I don't get out as often as I should. I ride primarily well groomed single track and asphalt (urban/rails to trails type riding) and plan on setting up a bike for commuting. Although I don't put in many miles, I know what I like in a saddle. What took me so long to acquire a Brooks saddle is beyond me. This saddle has it all - support, comfort and classy looks. I have ridden the Flyer S Special for three outings now. Although the nose is shorter for the women's cut, there is still plenty of room to move around and find your sweet spot - the place where butt and saddle meld into one and you forget about the saddle and just drift into your riding zone. Many reviews I've read mention that the rider has felt comfortable in the saddle straight out of the box without riding shorts. I'm not there yet but I am definitely comfortable on the saddle. I would not hesitate to take a long ride on it.I was bit apprehensive about having to prep the saddle before riding so I did a bit of research. Turns out the process was painless. I decided to treat the saddle with Obenauf's oil and heavy duty LP - oil to condition and the LP to preserve/waterproof rather than the Brooks recommended Proofhide. I've had great success with Obenauf's for other leather care and I'm very satisfied with the outcome on the saddle. I liberally applied the oil to the underside of the saddle and let it sit in a large ziplock bag in a warm car for around 15 minutes. Then I worked any remaining surface oil into the leather - top and bottom. I repeated this process about four times until the oil soaked through and the top of the saddle turned dark. I left the saddle in the bag overnight - out of the heat - then again worked the oil into the leather, wiping away any excess. To finish I applied two coats of the Heavy Duty LP. The saddle shines and is smooth without being overly slippery. The leather has the slightest hint of give when pressed hard and so should break in nicely when I ride.I've never ridden a comfort saddle - all of my past saddles have been on the harder side. I am a firm believer that a properly adjusted/fitted saddle that supports you and provides absence of friction is more comfortable than a soft, overly padded seat. The Brooks takes that belief to a whole new level. So much so that I will be saving up for a B17, Swift or Pro for my full suspension mountain bike. Heck, if Brooks made saddles for recumbents, I'd get one for the recumbent too!

A quality saddle
I joined the cult of Brooks when I bought a B17 to put on my commuter and loved it. After I built another bike for winter commuting, I wanted something with a little more cushion to protect against the jar of hidden potholes and ruts. The Flyer is a B17 with springs and perfect for my commute. Now that I've experienced the comfortable quality of the ride, I'm going to get another for my road bike.If you have saddle issues (soft tissue pain, sores, even hand or wrist pain) try a Brooks. Don't be put off by the hard leather; it's designed to support your sit bones and will "soften" in time enough to give some suspension even in the models without springs. A leather saddle also "breathes" and keeps you cooler in the summer. Plus, they look awesome on your bike.

Wow - comfy!
So I heard great things about Brooks, the sales guy who sold me my new commuter bike raved when I mentioned swapping out the hard seat my bike came with. I received it and it feels so stiff and hard that I thought - no way this will be comfortable. But...i was wrong. Even at first ride, it is a good feel. Not soft per say, but the fit for women is very nice (not too wide or too long in the nose). Now after about 100 miles you don't really even notice the seat at all. Though it doesn't "feel" soft, I think it is molding to me and softening up! This saddle made a Brooks lifer out of me!

great for stoker seat on a tandem
I have a standard Brooks B17s on another bike and find them easy to ride. These saddles do take a bit of time to break in. That being said I bought the Flyer S because I feel every bump my hubby hits with our tandem more than he does. I can't see them coming so I have no time to brace for impact. I notice a big difference after only one ride. I don't dread the back seat on the tandem as much now.

Amazing Seat
This was exactly what I expected. Very high quality. A beautiful seat. Comfortable even for an uninitiated cyclist. Well worth it.

Brooks Seat defects
I’m sad to say this is the second one and it had the same problem it is frustrating to have to settle with this seat because the second was worse. Amazon representative Moinuddin worked with me and I settled for a discount I just got tired of after inspection it was defective also. For having such a history of excellence I am disappointed. I bought a used one that looked better B17. I don’t know what’s going on. I have 2 B17 and the one I just bought didn’t have that problem before.

The Best Commuter Saddle
I love bikes, but I'm no expert. I ride my commuter to work and was using the standard saddle it came with. This worked fine but the saddle was (stupidly) white, leading it to absorb color over a year of use. I figured that since I was going to replace it, why not try the saddle I keep hearing rave reviews for?The difference between riding on a Brooks and anything else is immeasurable... The leather will take a little time to break in and may be slippery to ride on at first, but after a while the saddle fits you like a glove. The springs on here make any commute a breeze. I've ridden my bike for hours on this saddle and haven't had any soreness that I was used to experiencing on my old saddle.I was almost afraid that the good reviews would lead me to invest in this saddle without payoff, but this is far from the case. There's a reason Brooks has its reputation. I'm sold!

Also, Versuch macht klug!
