HP Chromebox CB1-014 Desktop (White)

I bought this chromebox for my parents, and I am glad about my decision. I’ve never had the box version before, but after considering two things (cost and easy of use), I decided to try this one out.Setting this computer up was breezy; it only took a couple of minutes. Basically there’s really nothing to install and go through setup process. Setting location, time, language, network (WIFI or ethernet), and user information was all that I needed to set. My parents already have a usb keyboard, mouse, and a monitor, so all they had to do was just plug those three things (oh, and the ethernet cable that was ready already in their place), and it was all set. One thing I recommend is to have wired keyboard and mouse for the initial setup or wireless keyboard/mouse with the pairing USB dongle. If you have a bluetooth keybaord/mouse at initial setting, it won’t work.My parents’ primary use of this box is the internet web browsing: reading news articles, looking at family photos we upload, and occasional web video watching. And this device is just perfect for what they need. I know this box is little more capable (run windows or use as media box) than what my parents do with it, but even lower end windows PCs seemed overkill for them.Also, upon purchase, this box comes with a free 100GB google drive storage for 2 years. The onboard storage is 16GB just like a basic tablets these days, but with the 100GB of clouded Google drive, I don’t foresee lacking storage space.Specs wise, it might seem underpowered, but I was surprised how fast it worked. Starting the box only takes several seconds and web browsing is as fast as my ten-times-more-costed work computer. I had no problem streaming and watching a full HD movie from Youtube when tested on my 23” cinema display. Wifi reception was good and fast, and later I added the bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and it worked fine with the box as well.Overall, this is just a perfect computer for my aging parents and for their needs. It is small, light, but fast and very energy efficient. Everything worked very well right out the box, and most of all, my parents are happy with this box and I am happy for that as well. Now I am thinking about getting another one for myself to use as a TV media box. Highly recommended!!

The Chromebox itself is just fine. It does what it is supposed to. I have two issues with false advertising though that make me wish I bought the ASUS instead of trying to save a few bucks on the HP.1 - It says it has built-in VESA mount. It does have holes for this purpose located under the rubber feet and includes 4 spacers for this purpose. However, it does not have any screws or way to actually attach it to the monitor. I contacted customer service and it turns out they want you to buy their HP Flat Panel Quick Release Kit. The kit costs $35 although you can usually get it for closer to $20. The ASUS comes with the mounting kit included.2 - As others have stated, they advertised as fan-less, but it clearly has a fan. The fan does not bother me too much, but it was advertised as fan-less and this was one reason I purchased it over the ASUS. The fact that they have false advertising for a second time is what gets me.Again, the unit itself works fine, but please buy they ASUS just to protest against companies false advertising. The ASUS and the HP have the exact same specs, so you might as well buy the ASUS.

If you're thinking about buying one of these and already have the use in mind, just do it. I was wary of buying the one with only 2GB of RAM and only the Intel Celeron instead of the i3 processor, but it really doesn't matter as long as you use it for light to medium internet use. I think if you want to keep more than 5 or 6 tabs open at once you could still just buy this and upgrade the RAM yourself as it's much easier to do on the HP than the ASUS model (just make sure you get DDR3L RAM). I am using the box currently connected to my living room TV, but there's virtually unlimited places you could put it as you only need an outlet for your box and an outlet for your monitor to get it up and running, This could easily fit just about anywhere as it's smaller than almost all routers.TL,DR This box is great for the $150 I paid for it and you should buy it as long as you aren't expecting it to be your only computer.Update:After about a week of use, I've really tried to push this thing to the limit! Three 1080p videos playing at once, plus two other tabs open and still no stuttering or lag. I'm not sure what you would need a better processor for unless you're planning on playing content in 4K.

Wish I could give it 3.5 stars - Should be a 4 - however since the device was received with a rubber foot that easily falls out of its slot I had to knock it down. Not worth going through the hassle of a return since everything else works as expected. I use this box as my living room entertainment device. Ethernet connection. Haven't tried wifiMy biggest concern prior to purchase was how much fan noise the box made. There were not many comments regarding fan noise. This is my 4th day with the box and fan noise is not an issue at all. From 8ft away you would need complete silence in the house and focus really hard to hear fan noise coming from the box.Pretty much works as expected - easy install and set up. Sync all of your Google products even easier. I purchased this item to replace a 6-7 year HP Elite desktop that was connected to my 50 inch TV via HDMI. I connected the Chromebox via HDMI and the picture quality is just as good as if not better than the updated nvidia HDMI from the old dtPC.No problems with any major entertainment sites - Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO, Xfinity, Showtime. HD qualityI did have issues with watching NFL games on foxsportsgo and CBSonline.Pros - Got it on sale on amazon for 149.99. So far the best money spent on any streaming device. Start up time is lightning quick.Con - Slowed down after heavy use the third day I had it. A lot of video playback. The mouse clicks were not working smoothly and whatnot. Shutdown and restart fixed everything. Rubber Footing fell off and I almost lost it.

NUCやBRIXの最廉価モデルはCPUがAtom系ですが、こちらはHaswell系。小容量ながらメモリ・SSDが付いていることを考えると中々お得じゃないでしょうか？そのままChromeOSで使ってもいいし、Windowsを入れることも一応可能ですし。※ロットによって違うのかもしれませんが、気になる方は注意を。商品説明では2GB x 2 が可能とありますが、開腹して見たところメモリスロットは一つのみです。発送が早く対応は良いのですが、説明と違っていたということで減点です。

これとGoogleＡｐｐｓがあれば快適に仕事ができます。セカンドＰＣとして購入しましたが、思った以上に便利です。高性能ＰＣに頼らず、これで十分仕事できるようになりたいです。

性能はとてもよく気に入って使っていたのですが、ＡＣアダプタとソケットの差込具合が不安定で、ある日配置を変えるのに差し込み直したところ、英語で「十分な電力が得られない」との表示が出て動かなくなりました。Amazonに連絡したところ、返品になりました。残念！その後、AmazonでAsus社のChromeBoxを購入し、現在に至っています。

子供のパソコンとして購入。Dell u2414のモニターと。結果：子どもたちがwindowsのデスクトップに興味がなくなって、Chromeboxの前にずっとYoutubeを見ったり、ゲームやウェブブラウザを使ったりします。本当は宿題に関しても使ってもらうつもりですが、まだかなぁ。。。私もChromeやGoogle Movieやネット通販、ま、そう言う軽い応用では十分満足しています。この Hp Chromebox　は小さくて、静かなパソコンです。値段のわりにはしっかり作られてます。パフォーマンスは十分でしょう。１０８０ｐのビデオはきれいに写ってます。当然windowsのソフトは無理ですし、あとは印刷の方には一工夫いりますね。

肥大化し過ぎたOSの機能をそぎ落とし、ハードウェア要求水準を低下させて、低コストかつ高速動作をさせる工夫は、iOS/Androidと同じであるが、決定的な違いは、このパソコンは、Google Chromeとまったく同じ操作ができるということだ。UIがChromeそのままだから、新しく学習する必要はほとんどない。Google Chromeのユーザなら、すぐに移行できるだろう。困った点は、USモデルなので、キーボードのデフォルト設定をいじる必要があったことと、電源コードがアースを含む三極式で、日本の100V2曲電源ソケットに入りにくかったことだ。日本ではアースなんて使わないのだから、ペンチで折り取るか、変換コネクタを購入することをお勧めする。画面の大きさは、モニタしだいである。この自由度が良い。iOS/Androidは、比較的大きなモデルでも、画面がせせこましくて使いにくかった。それがないのである。
