Which? magazine agrees with me
We found this to be an excellent air purifier. Some criticisms, minor in our view - but make up your own mind:1) The sleep mode is basically "off". It turns all the lights off (good) but runs at the lowest setting (bad). It would be better if you could choose the fan speed independently and still turn off the lights. We like to sleep with some background noise, so 3 is our preference. A suitably sized piece of dark fabric laid on the top (which is flat) solves the light issue.2) Some functions are selected by pressing two buttons simultaneously. That is not bad per se, but there is nothing on the panel to indicate what buttons do what so we will be hunting for the instructions when we want to use those functions.3) You can turn off the ioniser if you want (good) but there is no indicator to show whether the ioniser is on or off (bad).4) As Which? magazine says, it is hard to move from room to room. Not so much because of weight, but more the bulk and lack of handles or wheels. This was not a problem for us as we use it in one location. All in all, though, it is the highest scoring in the Which? magazine report (85/100) so what's not to like. There are others scoring in the eighties (some MUCH more expensive) so you may want to check them out too if this one does not meet your needs.

Great piece of engineering!
Great machine, modern, stylish and simple to operate. Which? Best-Buy lead me to lots of research into reviews and all the complaints seem unfounded. Filters are available (purchased one with it), status light easy to switch off. Ioniser is ON unless you switch it off and will reset to ON when unit is plugged in and powered up again… no ioniser status light required. Has a “handle” built in, you just need to pick it up behind the control panel. Nicely balanced for one hand lifting. Only 9kg but do check dimensions in case you thought it was smaller…Proved to be sensitive, effective and efficient. Silent on night mode. You can feel the difference in the room and can crank it up to 5 of you need the room recirculated during the day.So far so good. Mid-price, high performance. Purchase with confidence.

DO NOT BUY - SERIOUS REPORTED ISSUES WITH FILTERS
as of July 2024 this is listed as a DO NOT BUY by the Which consumer association. These were their findings: 'When we first tested this model back in 2019 we made it a Best Buy. When we improved our test program in 2024, we retested all previous Best Buys to see if they still made the grade. The EAP500HC has had quite a fall from grace. The reason is because the filters we received with the machine, and the replacements we ordered, did not fit properly, allowing unfiltered air to pass through the machine. We tested it with the filters we received from the manufacturer, as a consumer would, and it performed so poorly we downgraded it to a Don’t Buy. When ordering replacement filters, consumers might get lucky and receive correctly fitting ones in which case this air purifier will likely remain highly effective. But they could get unlucky, like we did, and receive ill-fitting filters that render the machine practically useless.' - I have contacted the manufacturer, but after several emails I am none the wiser if they are aware of the issues, or have addressed the faults with poor filters. Based on the Which testing and my efforts with their customer support I would not advise buying this unit.

ease of use
Good product but has only lasted for less than 18 months now is unusable because of a timer fault. Warranty is only for 1 year it should be longer it has only been used for 5 hours per day.

Very quiet on auto setting
This seemed to be a suitable size for a large living room, with a large filter with the type filtering I wanted. The unit works well on the automatic setting, responding to any relevant air pollution, and is very quiet when the pollution level is low. I use it to deal with any cooking smells or dust after vacuuming, to minimise any hay fever.

Good-looking piece of kit; efficient
Bought this after "Which" recommended it as a best buy. We wanted to get an air purifier to take out dust, pollens and (whisper it soft) dander from our short-haired dog.So far, so good. When switched on it starts by checking the air quality - the light on the front changes colour as it analyses, and a numeric readout on the control panel gives you a value which can be translated roughly into air quality. The lower the number, the better. If it detects a change in air quality (e.g. someone uses an aerosol, or maybe if you were to empty your vacuum cleaner nearby - the why you'd do that I have no idea) if it's left on "Auto", as it detects the particles in the air the light indicator on the front changes, as does the numeric readout. The fan comes to life and the machine filters at an increased rate and then settles back down again afterwards. On its highest fan setting (only got to that by manually turning the fan speed up) it's really rather noisy; you wouldn't want it in your lounge in the evening making that noise. On its lowest setting, and on "Auto" most of the time, I can barely hear it and sometimes it's only the current of filtered air coming out of the back the shows you it's actually doing something. All in all, it's good. Pleasant looking, as domestic appliances go, and appears well-made. Setting up is very easy - just install the filter and plug it in.

Absolutely great machine
Amazing machine - impact on air quality was extremely quick according to my wife who suffers badly from hay fever. The way it responds when, for example, taking off your jumper when you have been out in a field is really quite amazing.Filter prices are excellent compared to those from a well know other make which I have.Response to a query I sent to the Company has been incredibly fast and precise. Great advice. Definitely A*****.

Effective Air Purifier
Early days but the purifier is working extremely well and immediately reacts if something like tobacco smoke is in the air. On the lower settings it is also very quiet. Providing it proves reliable it is excellent value for money.
