Great motherboard but watch CPU compatibility
Great motherboard but the description needs to say socket LGA2011-V3. This will only work w/ the V3 4th gen CPUs. It will not work with the i7-4930K. Good thing I had another project that required one of those. It is compatible with the i7 5820K.Also note that it has a USB 3.0 header which is not compatible w/ USB 2.0 cable sets so you will have to purchase one of those if you want front panel USB.All that said, if you need reliable I/O, this board will do the trick. The POST is a true test so, w/ the DDR-4 ECC RAM, it takes a little time to start up. Once the POST is complete, it boots in about 7 seconds. Total time is about 30 seconds from the time I push the power button. The 256G RAM limit is crazy! I only put 32G in there and it meets the needs of the job I am asking it to do. I am not doing graphics intensive stuff so can't comment but it does have dual 16x slots. I have dual GTX 780tis in another Supermicro and the graphics are great on it so I would think this would be as good. This is a 5 star motherboard but I am only giving 4 stars because of the misleading socket description. To be fair, Supermicro does not have this info on their spec sheet either so, Amazon really isn't at fault here.

We'll See The Lifespan
So far so good. This replaced an original X10SRA-F motherboard in an OEM tower with a Xeon E5-1650 V3 CPU. The original died 3 and one half years with boot failure with a PCE video card installed. It would boot with the on board VGA but not an external video card. In fact it wasn’t originally stable from the start but the OEM couldn’t find a problem. Now it seems to work properly. We’ll see how long it lasts.

Has a motherboard LED but you don't know if the codes are good, bad or normal
USB ports seem to be not working correctly. Intermittently ports will have power. No documentation whatsoever. You have to download from two different sites especially the all important "Beep Codes" Still getting them. Has a motherboard LED but you don't know if the codes are good, bad or normal. Will attempt to flash bios today and if no success with beep codes or USB ports will RMA.Also no onboard 2.0 USB header. Not a big thing normally but supposedly Freenas doesn't like 3.0 USB ports.

CPU Socket Type is LGA2011-v3
This is a good board, but they really need to change the description. The CPU socket type is LGA2011-v3, NOT LGA2011. I had to exchange the CPU I had ordered for a different one due to this mistake. If they change the description, I would give this board 5 stars.

Buyer beware
I would give this motherboard a 0 star review, but I have to post something. The board died after five months of use. I have removed all the peripherals, swapped RAM, reset the BIOS and it always stops at code 69, which is the northbridge diagnostics from what I understand. I have used many supermicro based systems over my years and this is the first one that I have seen fail. I am posting my review more out of concern for the quality for this product. Additional failures of this product, is that unless you connect something to the VGA port, you can not see the POST messages until later in the boot process. External graphics cards pick up the POST messages later in the boot process.

great
my worry was the Chinese put a fault in the bios updates for some sort of virusy type deal, it was a while ago since I read about it.the board works super well, takes a bit to boot but that's just... a normal super micro thing just don't update the bios

Four Dead Motherboards
Quality control of Supermicro motherboards is terrible..I purchased four on Amazon. Two were DOA. The other two lived 1-to-1.5 days and went dead..Never again!

Worked with 2008 R2
We have some old servers running 2008 R2Needed to have backup hardware options, but was not sure if it was compatible with this board. So far all the board features are functional with 2008 R2. Not all drivers installed auto, but Intel update service seemed to catch up everything else. Nice to have a board that does not tie us into proprietary hardware for every item we want to add.
