Good VGA Alternative
Have overall been pleased with this device. It is very easy to install/use. I have two monitors, so it's a little space consuming because I have two units. I don't have USB3.0 which would probably be an asset, although the performance has been pretty good on the USB2.0 slots. I use Photoshop CS6 on this laptop, and it works well. I'm not a gamer so can't comment. I did upgrade my laptop from 4 > 8GB memory and that seems to have helped. Also notice that when playing video it seems to place more demand on laptop as I can hear fan speed increasing to kick out heat the longer the video plays. Not sure that's a function of using USB, but I have to guess that that the demand on memory/disk is higher with USB when you don't use the integrated graphics card...

Works excellent w/Windows 7 x64 & Dell hardware
One big thing though, don't bother with the drivers CD that comes with the display adapter. Instead, go to startech.com/download and look up the driver for 'USB2DVIE3' (this device). The driver bundle from StarTech is named 'Trigger.zip'. I ran the extract and setup.exe to install the drivers first. It'll prompt you to reboot after that. After reboot, I plugged in this device, then hooked it up to the 3rd monitor. From there on the desktop, right-click, display settings and clicked 'detect/identify', and it found the 3rd monitor no problem. From there, you can resequence the order of displays 1-2-3 to your liking. I did notice that video is a little slower on the StarTech diplay, however no biggie. The resolution and appearance of the display matched the other two monitors very closely otherwise. This is with a Dell E6420, using the Dell docking station w/2 DVI display ports (for monitors 1 & 2). Product works as advertised.

Pretty Nifty Device
I debated whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. It gets 5 stars for value-for-money. But I wanted to knock off a star to warn people that you aren't getting a top-of-the-line graphics card with this device. I connected this to an extra 1600x900 monitor that I have. It works great for basic productivity tasks--surfing the internet, checking email, writing documents, etc. Running undemanding applications, I wouldn't be able to tell which monitor is connected to this device and which are connected to my internal graphics card.It sputtered a little with 480p video, and there was noticeable lagging with 1080p video--so much that you wouldn't be able to watch high-definition video through this device. (Obviously, my display is not a full 1080p, so it had to downconvert; I don't know if that impacted performance at all.) However, the device did not slow my computer down, and there was no impact on 1080p video performance on my other two monitors. (In fact, I placed half the video on the monitor connected through this device, and half on another monitor, and could see half the video stuttering and the other half running smoothly.) I didn't even both trying to run any games with demanding graphics. If it struggles to play standard definition video, it ain't playing Crysis.So. . . . It's good for its purpose, but don't expect miracles.

Does what it was design to do!
This product is the perfect solution for PCs that for some reason or the other do not offer more connectivity for your video output than VGA or SVGA. This external video card is a cheap and effective way to bridge that gap. I highly recommend it, easy to install and gets you up and running in minutes, you cannot ask for anything better. I'm very satisfied with the results, it delivers what it promises to do.

It does it's job but some lag
Its nice to have the ability to use two monitors with my laptop. (I have a Sony Vaio Z3). This product does its job but it does lag. I don't use this to do any video playback or any games. I use it for programming and databases and word processing and excel spreadsheets so i'm not sure why it lags but it does. For instance, when I move the mouse over the monitor that is connected via the USB 3.0 port somewhat quickly it will lag.Its not to big of an issue, but you will get irritated every now and then. I suggest you use the monitor that isn't connected to this port for the majority of your tasks and use the monitor connected to this device more as an information screen i.e something you'll glance at on occasion. But all in all, the color is amazing, and it makes me more productive now that I have two monitors and it does its job well.

Great and inexpensive way to add another monitor
This is an easy and inexpensive way to add a second external monitor to a laptop. I had an external monitor already, but wanted to add a second one so I could have multiple documents in view at the same time. This fits the bill perfectly. Set up was easy, I just downloaded and installed the latest drivers and connected everything. It does take up a USB port, but my laptop has 3, and I have daisy chained hubs on one of them for peripherals. I tried connecting the Star Tech adapter to a hub, but that didn't work, it has to be connected to a USB port on the laptop. The only slight drawback is keeping track of the mouse cursor across multiple screens.

Very pleased
I first purchased a StarTech external video card a couple of years ago to add a third monitor to my desktop computer. The product worked great. When I decided to add a 4th screen, I didn't think twice about purchasing another of these. I've been pleased with the resolution. The responsiveness is not great for video playback or gaming (which I didn't expect based on the reviews and the price), so I use it for monitors that are used for other purposes.Rarely (once or twice a year) I lose the video feed to this monitor. Disconnecting the monitor (via Display Properties on my PC) and reconnecting it does the trick every time.

Exceptional tech support and customer service.
The adapter works great for newer monitors. Does not work so well with older 22" (~7yrs old) monitors.I gave it 5 stars because StarTech's support was awesome, talk about exceptional tech support and customer service.

So good I bought it twice!
Bought this to add an extra screen output to my wife's laptop. Super easy to install and means she can have three monitors now. She was so impressed I had to buy another for her to take to work and use there!!!

Lots of Lag
There was a lot of lag, could have been my computer, but it does extend the monitors to two. Not sure of this is good.

Ottimo prodotto

Great for extending work pc to 3 screens.
This is a phenomenal piece of kit. Download the drivers, turn off your computer, plug it in and boot up. Three glorious screens. It's for those of us who can't be bothered opening the back of the computer but need more screen estate.

no funciona en linux
Este producto dice de funcionar en linux pero es mentira. No vale la pena intentar y por el precio más vale un portatil nuevo.
