Great information about myofacial pain
My wife's doctor gave me some hand outs on myofacial pain and trigger points with massage to help relieve it. It was quite interesting and noticed this author quoted and referred to the author of the doctor's handouts. This book gives insight into pain and drug free management of pain. It states self treatment but it was more beneficial when I used the trigger points on her and massaged following. When visiting the doctor and the physical therapist I demonstrated the trigger points we were doing at home so we got professional feed back. I consistently sought more information and techniques available in this book to understand and help mitigate the pain my wife was experiencing following surgery. This book is an excellent source of information and understanding pain BUT do consult with the doctor and physical/occupational therapists. They are the professionals and will advise you if the techniqus are safe for you to use. I can't stress that enough.

Effective self-treatment for knee pain...
After experiencing chronic pain in my knees and constant stiffness and cramping in my calves and hamstrings I started a program of trigger point self treatment based on the recommendations I found in this book. Although time consuming (two half hour sessions per day) and rather painful the treatment after three weeks has resulted in my being able to now play tennis several hours at a time pain free and experience very little stiffness the next day. The downside is that I suspect this will be an ongoing process rather than a quick fix and to be effective on a continuing basis I will have to add these treatments to my daily exercise routine.

The Davies book has all this and more
I was hoping for some specialized help on pain in my knees and lower legs, but this doesn't even have all the information that is in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies (that covers the whole body). It is also organized in an extremely irritating way: when looking at one muscle, it will refer to another trigger point in another muscle by chapter number, but the headers on the pages have only chapter titles, not chapter numbers. So it takes extra steps to go back to find out where the chapter is. (I don't pay any attention to the chapter number of the section I'm reading. Do other people?)Additional information is not as useful as I was hoping. There are stretches (which Davies book doesn't have) but no other exercises. More than 1/3 of the book is very general introductory material that isn't very helpful if you already know something about trigger points.

Great Book
I discovered this book when trying to get over some running injuries. It is fabulous in how it will help you figure out what your problem is and how to resolve your problem. While you need to take some time off from over-use running injuries, this book helps keep that time to a minimum. This is actually the second copy I purchased as I gave one away to my son who runs marathons.A must own for the serious runner.

Buy to help yourself!
Get this book! Foot pains on top of foot helped by massaging muscle next to shins, just one example. No doctor or chiropractor will tell you about trigger points unless you bring it up.
