Average life span is + or - 5 years.
part of my work as a repairman is at commercial building's rented as store fronts (mostly auto repair shops , second hand stores, etc..). at one particular location there are two buildings with 8 units at each; 16 units total. every unit has a tankless water heater (TWH) under the bathroom sink. i believe the buildings began renting spaces about 5 years ago when construction was completed. to date i have replaced 4 TWH's. so, out of 16 TWH's only 4 failed over a +/- 5 year span. Hmm.. that sounds like a durable water heater to me. and when you consider that they are being used in a commercial type setting (ie: high usage) this should only increase its rating. i've read reviews from people stating they had to return their units several times also about how quickly these units have failed. i'm sure there's some truth to their reviews. i'm not a statitician, but with only 4 failures over a 60 month period; that deserves high praise.

works
I bought one 3 years ago and it stopped working so I bought another. the second one has a delay between water flowing and heating element turning on. I believe this is a small change to extend heating element lifespan. I used a lot of hot water for my first one and it was great and hot. If you want something to last longer, you should consider a lower current variant. the one I bought was 40 amp which is def higher chance to break heating element. I have another 20 amp version and it lasted at least 10 years and still working though water isnt as hot as 40 amp.

Lasted 3 or 4 months and crapped out
This was an exact replacement. The first one lasted 5+ years, not exactly sure, but the second one lasted about 3 months. Amazon was great refunding the purchase though.

Dont Purchase
This is the second time Ive had to replace this heater. It has only lasted a year. Amazon also sold me a warranty on this heater and when I filed a claim they said that the warranty does not apply to water heaters and will not refund the warranty I Purchased.

Junk. Dont buy.
Junk. Was never hot enough and broke after 14 months. Just long enough for the warranty to run out. Saw very light use. Just used to wash hands a few times a day and do a few dishes at night
