Best GPS unit I've owned.
Works well and Garmin customer service has responded well to the few problems have had. Garmin maps are very good although my home street is mapped incorrectly. Camera is good and safety warnings are effective though sometimes a little too sensitive. Overall very happy with this unit. Vendors delivered as promised.

It's good at two things..
The good.. Nice idea, .. 'dash cam' integrated with a GPS with good quality video.Missing.. start up PIN code like my old Garmin to discourage thieves. Pathetic.. the battery - hardly enough reserve to enter an address when unplugged. Bug.. reviewing really long video (think a long road trip without stop) doesn't allow moving slider to near end of clip, it bounces back to the start. Better design.. allow power cord to plug in to either the magnetic mount OR the back of the unit, this would allow charging inside without bringing the magnetic mount in. Useless.. Forward collision AND lane drift warnings - they are not very accurate and so annoying you will turn them off. Also useless, voice commands, unless you like to yell at the unit and then repeat yelling at it, you'll quickly give up trying voice commands. It's a good GPS and dash cam, if that's what you want it for I'd recommend it.

Added to my Wall of Shame, - Read for your own good!
First of all, I don’t want this to be a LONG drawn review going over all of the obvious faults that everyone else has already identified. Everyone understands that it has very poor battery life, comes with a screen that is too shiny, has a suction mount that a lot of people have complained about, takes up a lot of space on the dash, needs a new HD interface, Continually flashing alerts, - I could go on an on!Please read this. I read through all 44 reviews that were available when I started typing this and only one (1) other person had even mentioned the routing problem. That’s the MAIN reason that you purchase a GPS. I already have a DVR camera running full time and I purchased this NuviCam just for fun! Let me tell the readers that I use a GPS Professionally and use it every single day. I know Garmin and their routes inside and out and all the little tweeks and nooks of using my Garmin NuviCam on top of being an instrument rated pilot. For example I’ll be driving along with my new NuviCam on a nice well paved rural country 2-lane road with the address that I’m going to 6 or 7 miles ahead on the right hand side. Everyone in my car should be happy, except for the Garmin NuviCam. Suddenly it wants to turn me down a dirt road that looks like a jeep trail or a cow path to get to my destination. Now understand that I have Uturns and Unpaved Roads ticked off under the Avoidances menu. One would assume that avoiding UNPAVED ROADS would also include Jeep Trails, but its never seems to make any difference. Under the Calculation Mode menu, I have ONLY three choices, Fastest Time, Off Road, or Shortest Distance to choose from! I’d like an option that said something like, “Just stay on the Main road”!! Nope, there is no such option! Please note that this cute little “Dirt Road Trick is a very common occurrence and happens all of the time, - sometimes the road might even be paved, but it is ALWAYS surreptitious, out of my way, and not on the most traveled route. It makes no difference if I choose FASTEST TIME or SHORTEST DISTANCE, my Garmin NuviCam will try to take me on the exciting route over unplowed snow packed roads during the winter. Now, unknown to most users, there is another option called the EcoRoute. That’s Garmin’s cute little name for using the smallest amount of gas. Not a bad idea!! You go to the Apps Menu on the home screen and then toggle down to Ecoroute. You are prompted to enter your car’s City Mileage and Highway Mileage numbers plus the price of fuel. Then, BEFORE it can be used, you are instructed to go to Garmin on the web and purchase a OBD2 Cable to plug into the diagnostic connection on your car for the Price of $110. 00. Now this would give you a third option when planning a route. Fastest Time, Shortest Distance, or “Less Fuel”. The EcoRoute, gives you a different Garmin Display when plugged in. Now to the shameful part of the story, - - - Even without purchasing the $110.00 cable, my older Garmins would calculate the EcoRoute without any Automobile interface cable. The cable connection is absolutely NOT REQUIRED to calculate a economical EcoRoute for your trip. But the new Garmin NuviCam will not go ahead and calculate a route without you purchasing the $110.00 cable. The NuviCam is programmed to simply lockup and not complete the calculation. That stinks and it is shameful on Garmin’s part to make the EcoRoute feature completely unavailable without spending an additional $110.00. My older Garmins will calculate a great EcoRoute with no dirt roads and do it without purchasing an optional cable that is NOT required. You didn’t read about this in your little Garmin owner’s manual.March 21, 2018I thought I'd add a little more to this review. The NuviCam was purchased on 11-21-2015 for about $390, - not a small purchase for me. This past month, it stopped recognizing ANY of my computers. This is a major problem because without a computer connection, the maps or software can't be updated! After several emails to a Garmin Support, they confirmed that my NuviCam was defective. It was always cared for properly, carried in a padded case, and never dropped. Garmin Support was very polite and knowledgeable. Garmin comes with a 1-year warranty with had expired. I wanted to get the unit repaired and Garmin offered to replace my unit with a refurbished replacement for $160.00. They don't replace the mounting device of any of the other accessories, - that price only includes the GPS itself. Now the the BAD PART. The refurbished unit is ONLY warrantied for a period of three months. (That's a mere 90 days) and doesn't show a lot of confidence on Garmin's part!!I was going to simply purchase a new 1918 model year Garmin to replace my broken unit, but none of then came with a mount that was powered. Believe me, this is important and is a SUPER CONVENIENCE. Who wants to be grabbing a cable and attempting to plug it in to a small hole every time that you get in you car. There is NOT a SINGLE new unit that has a powered mount available. Again (SHAME, SHAME SHAME)So, I purchased the refurbished unit and its still working. And I can tell anyone reading this that I still REALLY like the large format of a 6" screen. I used the smaller format for a month while this unit was out of service and it was a pain compared to the larger unit. One more thing. I had to replace my plug in memory card because it stopped working. I keeps getting overwritten all of the time that the camera is running and eventually get worn out. It's no different from a human!!That's all for now!!Shame on Garmin!!! Only the Truth is adding them to my “Wall of Shame”.

Not Up to Garmin Standards
The media could not be loaded. The camera has failed twice and after a couple days started working (see video). So, I'm not confident that it will be recording when I need it to be recording. It also generates weird routes compared to my other three Garmins. I've tried the various routing settings and the only go from weird to weirder. Also, as others have mentioned the voice recognition is poor and not as good as it could be. My two other Garmins with voice control are better at that too. It's a pretty expensive product for all the shortcomings.

Garmin could improve maps and routings
Don't depend on Garmin's maps - they will route you the long way around. I've found Tom-Tom's maps to be a little better. The unit itself is good; and it is fun to use the dash cam feature. The weighted base mount works well on the dash. Overall I am satisfied with some reservation. Internal battery life is very limited - plan on providing aux. power. For safety, always carry paper navigation maps on trips.

Very satisfied
Great GPS! Easy to set up and use. I replaced the 4 gb card with a 64 gb so I could let it record for a much longer time. Personally I like the 6" screen as it is easy to read at a glance. I am considering adding a back up camera after seeing how clear the video screen is. All information is recorded as you drive including time, speed, location, etc. it is a bit pricey, but very helpful.i especially like the camera as my wife and I are now in our mid 70's and I feel that we could be protected if in an accident by the video. People are quick to assume that in a fender-bender or worse that it is the "old" person's fault. I have two other gps units, but this is now the only one I use. I bought the friction mount for the dash and it is very stable. My last two cars had the built in gps screen which I did not like because you had to take your eyes off the road to view it. Having it on the dash makes it easier and safer.

Great product, works great.
This thing is awesome. thevoice command works great as does the dash cam. I had some trouble setting up the interconnect with the software but that worked after a second try. The gravity stand works well. My third garmin in 12 years...much better than the rest.

Good investment.
Though we have been Garmin users for over 25 years, this model took a little getting used to. It offers so much more than earlier models, including the dash camera. We love the traffic information, and we keep finding available settings only to lose their location when we want to go back. Good investment none the less. We got a beanbag dash mount to replace the suction cup. Love the strong magnetic holder.
