Gishy Goo - Instant relief from brace sores
My daughter has recently become part of the brace brigade, which includes the usual soreness from the brace rubbing the inside of the mouth. Having myself had a brace (20 years ago), I'd made sure to leave the orthodontists with the little red pot of wax. But, as had happened with me, the wax only worked for my daughter when her mouth wasn't open, chewing, drinking or talking. I thought that in 20 years, someone must have made an advance on dental wax. I set about searching the net (dental forums were very informative), and found that Gishy Goo seemed to be leading the way for sore mouth relief. When the Gishy Goo arrived (what a great name :-), my daughter (in a great amount of discomfort by then) tore open the box and quickly mixed the small amounts of the two sqwishy goos into a ball, dabbed the offending area in her mouth with tissue (to make sure it was completely dry, enabling the goo to be able to stick) and pushed it on. Being the nature of the product, it instantly brought relief from the metal tearing away at the inside of her cheeks, but what was more impressive is that four hours later - it was still there. She then had lunch and so removed the goo, but replaced it (with fresh goo) afterwards. This then stayed in place until bedtime which is when she took it out, both common sense and the instructions say that it's not recommended for overnight. From my daughter's experience, I would say that this is a dream product (especially for a parent, when their child is so desperate for relief from their brace that they want to have it removed) which brought long-lasting comfort - she frequently uses this for 6-7 hours at a go.I would advise anyone using Gishy Goo to make sure that the area where you're going to apply it, is COMPLETELY bone dry - I'm sure that that may be the reason why people who have not had much luck with this product have had a problem.Lastly, the only reason I have not given this 5 stars is simply the price. In my opinion, £15 does not buy a sufficient amount to last more than a 2/3weeks - but obviously this will vary on how often/how much you use.

Overpriced , no better than wax
I decided to try this product as I found normal cheap dental wax to come off too easily. Well gishy goo is really no better , in fact I think it pops off easier. It sets more like plastic than normal wax. It is relatively easy to apply but I find getting to to stay on wet teeth was just as big a challenge as with conventional wax. I wouldn't recommend this as it is far too expensive.

What a Relief!
If your brace is driving you mad, don't hesitate to buy this. It's the only solution that really works. It's just like smooth silicone sealant when it sets so it doesn't move around or degrade. It takes a bit of practice to mix it for the right amount of time - try 10-12 seconds. And you need to use the right amount. But after some practice you will be able to create a silicone mould over the offending brace part that you can actually remove to eat, or clean your teeth, and then you can put it back in if you made a good quality job of it in the first place. It's actually cost effective and I have made moulds that have lasted weeks and re-used every day. But I'm a cost conscious adult. I clean it with a toothbrush and soak it in Corsodyl. I really wouldn't have got through the last few months without it. This supplier (Torque)is also very helpful and gives great customer service.

Really recommended - ahh the relief!!
I just got braces (as an adult) 4 weeks ago - they're the type that stick on the back of the teeth so are hidden but really cut up your tongue. Wax helped to a degree but tends to shift around and add extra pressure/pain. I tried gishy goo in desperation as I was having issues at work with speaking - I manage a large team so unable to avoid talking to people. Compared to wax, it stuck better to the braces (a bit of a trick learning when to put them onto the wires but I have the knack now) and it lasts a lot longer - I can put it on first thing in the morning and it will last all day. The pain relief was most welcome, and because of the protection it offers my tongue has been able to "toughen up" so not getting the cuts etc when not using gishy-goo or wax. Very recommended!

Didn't work for us - going back to wax
Our experience was that the product fell off the brace almost immediately and wouldn't stick back on.My advice is to stick with vegetable wax - much cheaper and if it falls off, you can always remould it.

Gishy Goo Brace relief
My sixteen year old son has a brace and found this online and after reading a lot of good reviews, he asked me to get him a Gishy Goo kit. He has found them really helpful and uses them between trips to the othodonics.

Instant relief for sore mouth
Gishy goo does provide instant relief and helped my mouth heal up. I have one particularly scratchy bracket on each side which when covered up with Gishy goo,the ulcers were able to heal. But even just with using a pea sized blob of Gishy Goo every day on each side, the amount you get for £14 is soon used up. I have not had much success with re-using the pieces once taken out. They tend to fall out easily. I am going to finish up my tube and go back to using wax which is more cost effective. Gishy goo is better than wax, but too expensive for me to use long term. It is well worth a try though.
