I'm a self-described beef jerky enthusiast and THIS is my type of jerky! This has been the best product I've come across in decades. However, my enjoyment is based fully on the type of jerky I like and seems to be hard to find these days. I am not a fan of sweet jerky, and I can't stand for my jerky to be wet. Conversely, I don't like dry or brittle jerky either. This Barren Creek Cracked Black Pepper hits that perfect sweet spot. It hovers right in between that dry and moist land...that gorgeous space only occupied by the most heavenly of jerkys. Flavor is excellent, cut of meat is flawless (no pockets of fat or gristle), smell, texture, all absolutely top grade. This may be a bit pricey but I assure you it's worth the price if you're looking for a good piece of jerky. To provide some context if Jack Links is an Applebee's steak, this jerky is a Ruth's Chris filet.

I have ordered this twice, the first time based on reviews and these awesome photos they have. The second time was just out of a lack of options, and the bag sat nearly untouched afterward because I found it pretty mediocre. I've since gone to a local store that sells their own "cowboy" style jerky and I'm now sure what I've been missing. Huge flavor and that dry by fall, apart meat is what I look for. This jerky doesn't quite deliver for me on the taste or the meat. It's still good though, better than you can get at a grocery store and most liquor stores, but if you haven options I'd encourage you to explore. This may be one of the best on Amazon, but I think most of what is sold here is quite lacking. This may be one of your best options unless you find a dedicated source like "house of jerky" brand if you can find it, or a local source.

I bought this in the hope that I would find a well flavoured and lightly chewable jerky. What I got was meat so tough, I felt like I was gnawing on GrandPa's boots! Because I am a fair minded soul, I offered some to my 26 year old son and a neighbour. My son and I are real jerky lovers. He took one bite and I stood there watching him trying to chew the thing down to where he could finally swallow it! When he did, I offered him more. He shook his head and said he didn't want any more bull hide to eat. My neighbour took one bite and handed it back to me. Shook his head and said "it's not edible".I hate writing negative reviews. And I have had homemade jerky since my 20's, as my mother in law had a big jerky box and made her own, with beef and venison. Sun dried for days, it was never tough and stringy like this is. You can taste some pepper, but the need to chew so hard, in order not to choke, prevents you from even trying to taste its flavorings. If they can get it to be more tender, i would be willing to buy it again and hopefully give it a very high review. Sorry, this jerky needs some work!

Black Pepper: Very unique, doesn't come with a lot of pepper on it and tastes like it was drowned in soy sauce. The texture is my favorite kind for beef jerky, tough but tender at the same time but that comes down to personal preference. Order it if you like tough beef jerky and don't mind soy sauce. Don't order if you dislike soy sauce, you can taste it quite a lot!Overall good quality but should be renamed to Beef Jerky - Soy sauce flavored!

Not much black pepper flavor. More of a traditional dry to slightly moist chew, mild flavor. Four months left on expiration, everything looks good inside package, but no cracked black pepper smell upon opening. Large pieces of beef in the 8oz bag, sure wish they had cracked black pepper flavor though. Gave another bag to my mom, and she said hers was good and tasted of black pepper, so I'll have to try another bag to see.

If dry chewey jerky is your thing than this jerky is perfect. I would have liked a sweet and spicy option just as a suggestion. We ordered the black pepper. We are jerky lovers. If I could have given a 4.5 score, I would have. It's a little pricey so I took a A star away. I wouldn't be able to order often for that reason.

While I liked the flavor and overall product. It was spicy but not overly. The big slab of meat was really good. Unfortunately, something in the ingredients of this jerky does not react well to my stomach.I've tried other jerky brands haven't had the same reaction as this one. So sadly, while I did like it I won't be eating anymore of this brand.

I had not heard of this brand before, but found Barren Creek Beef Jerky to be very good. The packaging was a little small and that means the amount you get for the price I thought was a little high. Give it a try and enjoy.
