Works beautifully with Linux & Windows 10
Plugged this into my Linux Mint machine & it was immediately recognised working perfectly in all aspects, it is nice not to have to worry about driver installs etc. I also plugged into my newly upgraded Windows 10 PC and was pleased to find it worked just as well and I didn't have to install any drivers there either. The drive is supplied with a single (thick) USB lead and that's all I`ve needed to use so far, however the rated current is 1.6A so there may be occasions where you would need a Y lead.I`ve tested with a number of disc's my old drive was insisting were no good, all worked great. A big plus, this is the first drive I`ve had that has no problems reading/writing DVD RAM discs. The drive does have some added features not detailed in the listing, it supports M disc and has a TV connectivity mode (pretends its a flash drive) though that doesn't work with all disk types, plus has 'Silent Play' where it reduces disc noise.Definitely recommended.

Easy to set up and use and works great.
Very easy to use - I attached it to my Windows Vista 64 bit PC and the drivers automatically installed and it was ready to use in seconds. It also came with a disc with various bonus software on it. You don't have to install any of that though as, like I said, the drive itself is ready to use straight away. The software is Cyberlink Media Suite and some other things I believe. One thing you should install though is the small firmware updater program on the CD which will check and update the firmware of the drive as and when updates are released.I use it to burn Dual Layer DVDs.Definitely recommended!

Super quality external DVD writer
I have only been using this item for a few months now, but am finding it to be very good quality. I buy a lot of LG products, and I trust their worldwide electronic expertise. One tiny word of warning: When I first tried this external DVD writer, it seemed to run very slow, writing at a very slow speed. But after a couple of days, a firmware check came through (automatic with the software), and once this was run, the product performed perfectly. and was really nice and fast!I would recommend this product, and will try and write another review in another six months, when I can give a more experienced report.

Three Stars
It works, but it feels rather flimsy and draw a lot of power.

As good as my previous LG writer.
I had my previous LG multi-writer for 10 years. It was superb value for money but sadly it gave up the ghost. I did a lot of research and decided on the "modern" equivalent - which is the LG GP50NB40. It works faultlessly and is smaller than the previous writer. I agree with other users - reduce the "write speed" on the burning of discs and you will get perfect results every time. This LG cost me circa £23 and it is money well spent. I absolutely recomend it without hesitation. You will not be disappointed.

Great value!
I bought the LG GP50NB40 DVD drive to rip my DVDs to be able to play on my laptop and it's worked like a trooper. I have really put it through the ringer and it's come up trumps! Has recently stop being able to do DVDs but I did make it do LOADS of them and I'll probably just buy another LG. Can't go wrong at the £20-ish I got it for.

Good DVD burner drive
The best DVD drive burner I've used on my dell laptop and HP works on any computer or laptop. Had no problems with it burning DVDs with verbatim 8.5gb, burned about 17 discs without failed so far. As long as you've got it set to a lower recording speed like 3x witch will take a bit more time to burn you should not have any problems.
