Q: My 16 inch seems overly tight at the top, no matter what. (I measured to buy the right size.) If I buy the larger will it be too large??

That is a question I cannot answer. The regular size is up to 16” around and the large is for 16” to 21”

There is a velcro strap at the top of the calf that you will cinch to size so I would go with the larger size unless you like snug calves:)

You do not have to wear the sock at night. It is just effective if worn while reading, watching TV, sitting at a desk ETC.... Just DO NOT WALK while wearing the Sock.

Your shoe size has nothing to do with what size sock you purchase, is is the size of your calf. Measures your calf at it fullest part. If it measures up to 16” you would purchase a regular size sock. If it measures 16” - 21” you would purchase a large size sock.
