Very good Homekit lock option for the price

I have a Kwikset Premis on our rear entry door but wanted a Homekit lock for the front door that was not touch screen given it gets direct sunlight all morning and I don't think a touch screen would last. Overall, especially at the initial discounted price when this lock first came out, this lock has been very solid. I did worry since it was a brand new product without reviews or ratings to rely on that it could end up being problematic, but I've been happy with the result. Installation was no harder than installing any deadbolt when the door already has one. It connected to Homekit easily. Thus far I have had zero instances of it showing not connected in Homekit which is always a concern for a product using bluetooth when you aren't keeping a hub right next to it. I do have two Apple TVs as homekit hubs and the closest is at least 30 feet away, though that is usually the secondary hub (though it is unclear how Homekit leverages 2nd homekit hubs). It has never shown as "No Response" in Homekit over the first weeek. I tested out opening with the keypad with no issues but primarily I use Homekit via Siri and via an automation to lock it at night. There have been no failures to open or lock thus far. I do not currently use auto lock or auto unlock given those wouldn't work well for how we use this door so cannot speak to the reliability of those functions. The only complaint I really have so far is that when I do execute an automation via Homekit to make sure it is locked at night I do get a Homekit notification (and often two) that the door has been locked even if it was already locked. My other Homekit lock does not work this way...I only get notified if the lock status changes. I am somewhat hopeful that perhaps a firmware update could be supplied given this lock is new to the market to correct this behavior. However, for the price and for reliable operation I would still recommend this lock if getting unnecessary lock status notifications is not a deal breaker.

The Reagle Smart Deadbolt Lock is a great lock solution which works well with Apple Homekit.

Follow-up January 2020: it’s been about six months. I have used the smart lock feature at least every couple of days (we primarily use the garage to come and go). Both of my Reagle smart locks have had one battery swap and a couple of firmware updates. Out of all of my HomeKit devices (and I’ve got a bunch), these are the only non-hub units that are flawless. I’ve never had a single unresponsive issue with them. I use the to let visitors in when we’re not home and I use the number pad for entry (I have the keys but I don’t even bother with then). Six months isn’t an extensive period, but it’s more than a couple of weeks and I’m still loving them.Original: August 2019: The Reagle Smart Deadbolt Lock is a great lock solution which works well with Apple Homekit.I purchased two of these locks upon hearing about them in July. Here is one month of use.Installation (5/5 – kinda): The first installation took me about 10 minutes, as I read through each detail and ensured I was doing it as instructed. The second door took me about 2 minutes, because installation is really straight forward. That said, it did not work. I followed the instructions just the same as the first lock, but when it went to the self-test function it failed, every time. I must have tried 50 times, for a couple hours. I took it apart, reinstalled it, intentionally installed it incorrectly (note here – the lock will beep at you if you put it together wrong, which I thought was a nice feature), and then reinstalled it again. The last-ditch effort after hours of stressing about having a defective product was to try different batteries. I turned out (after trial and error) that one of the four batteries provided were bad. That is completely out of Reagle’s hands, but definitely something to note for other users.Functionality (5/5): I wanted a lock that works with Apple HomeKit, and that’s what I got (two of them). They have worked flawlessly for a month, and all without a bridge or any support issues for having two locks on the same network. The locks are not overly far from each other (I don’t have a huge house), and I’ve never had any overlap or conflicts. The buttons are spongy, and even though they light up I am sometimes not paying attention for that and so I’m unsure if the press went through. No real concerns for me, but that may be a thought for others.Support (5/5): I wrote in for help with the initial installation issues and got a very personalized and thorough response. I explained everything I did, and ended up figuring it out overnight (I don’t sleep much, lol), so I gave the feedback for the fix and got answers to that as well. All of my interaction was within a 24/hour period, and the company even offered to ship more batteries at no cost.Build quality (4/5): The lock and parties don’t feel heavy (typical standard for quality?), and some pieces were far skinnier/lighter/flimsier than the standard deadbolt I took off. For those asking – this is only a deadbolt replacement, not a handle. The backplate is a large thing plastic box which covers the batteries on the inside of the door. If you snag it while opening or closing the door (grab the actual box), the plate cover comes off sometimes. It’s meant to slide up to access the batteries, so it doesn’t compromise the lock in any way, but again – it’s one of those little things you think about. Even the key was a lighter metal and definitely not something that will weigh down your pocket. That said, the deadbolt itself - the physical piece which is intended to provide security – feels strong enough. Will it stand up to battering the door? I honestly don’t think so. But will it keep the door locked and ensure someone has to really want to get in to open the door? I think so. It’s only rated at Grade 3 (Grade 1 is the highest), but that’s all it really needs to be rated at. At some point, even the strongest locks are only a deterrent against determined actors.I would love to see future Reagle Smart Locks with a heavier duty construction (maybe bring it to a Grade 2) and a change in the buttons to provide a more responsive feel when pressed (maybe haptic feedback or some quiet click feel). That said, I am happy with my purchase. Overall, I enjoy using/having these locks and would definitely recommend them over some of the others I’ve read about and looked into.

No key life

This is my first smart lock. So far I am pleased after using it after a few days. Installation was not difficult…I just used about 15 minutes. Actually I was a little bit worried about installation before buying but it turned out fine. The app is straightforward, and both my iPhone and my wife’s Samsung could connect without a problem. It is a convenient feature that it locks automatically by pressing a single button, saving a lot of time when leaving. The lock has dual modes and supports Apple HomeKit. It’s fun to make Siri unlock then door when arriving home. This lock uses battery...not sure about the battery life, it shows 100% in the app after 2 days. I guess I will wait for a few weeks to see how the battery life is. Don’t know if there will be problems, but using my phone to control my lock without carrying keys does make me feel smarter… and my life easier.
