★★INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS★★1. Start by unscrewing and completely removing the head of your Maglite flashlight. (if the head is not completely removed from the body you may have issues with the dropin sitting down in the head correctly). 2. Next remove the bezel and lens from the head and take out the factory reflector. 3. Insert the 800 lumen Firefly into the head. If you have a very old version of the Maglite you may need remove the extra set of rings that is on the base of the Firefly 800 first so it will sit deeper in the head, the set of rings will just slip off the bottom of the bulb. There are detailed ★PICTURES★ above in the product listing about the rings to help. 4. Place the lens over the top of the 800 lumen Firefly reflector and screw the bezel back on to the head. 5. Remove the retaining ring and bulb from the switch tower (if you have the bi-pin bulb you can press down on the tower to eject the plastic bi-pin bulb holder). Reinstall the threaded retaining ring. 6. Screw the head of the Maglite back on to the body until it is "snug".★★OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS★★:In the PICTURES section above of the product listing there is a detailed set of TEXT instructions on how to operate the 3 mode user interface.

PERFECT
Just got and installed this FireFly LED in my old purple 3 D cell incandescent Maglite and I can say that this is the only way to make your old Maglite an equal to the new 3rd gen ML-300 line of Maglites. The replacement LED bulbs just aren't that bright and the original reflectors aren't made for them so the light pattern the retrofitted lights put out is a bit wonky. This solves that with a one piece LED and reflector. Also, this is machined from a solid piece of aluminum and not plastic so it should be a great heat sink for whatever heat the unit puts out. The main difference between this and the light output of a factory ML-300 is color temperature. The FireFly is slightly more yellow, but it's every bit as bright with just as tight of a hot spot and slightly more spill in the light pattern. I'm buying another for my 6 cell to convert it and my old faithfuls will have a new lease on life. Great product!!

Perfect then crap...
My old incandescent Maglite runs like a LED champ now. Update, after working for a month I now have an expensive paper weight. Don’t waste your $.

day one- drop in
upgrade took less than a minute - using exact same batteries as was in the flashlight - light was much better. I did not measure lumens or anything but seat of the pants review; I am much happier with the results. I feel like my maglite has a new life and I look forward to continued use.

Received defective unit had replacement in 3 days. 100% satisfied.
Very happy with this conversion. After being unhappy with the alternatives I finally settled on giving this unit a try. I was extremely discouraged when my first unit arrived and had a flickering problem. I emailed the owner and he replied within 25 minutes. He had me another unit on the way and it was in hand in less than 3 full days. After installing the new one it was everything I had alway wanted when thinking of converting my old mag lite. The output is bright, but not just that and this is important, the color is good. It’s not overly bluish like cheap LEDs. Run time has been very very good. The lowest setting “I call it endurance mode” seems like it could run for days and is still as bright as the old bulb was on brand new batteries.I’m 100% satisfied with this product and truly appreciate and admire the owners commitment to his work. He didn’t just treat it like a replacement. We chatted and trouble shot the issue. First rate across the board.

30-year old 4D Maglite Upgrade LED
LED upgrade is shiny bright, and fit perfectly in my 30-year old 4D Maglite.Installation Note: I had telltale "gap" trying to tighten bezel, then realized one of this reflector housing's heat-rings is removable which allowed bezel to fully thread and remove any gap. Looks better than new, and functions far better than new.~~

bought to try
i did the upgrade and have tried all the upgrades on the maglites.... this upgrade improves your old maglite, but the true maglite LED flashlight is the better buy... the 3 D cell LED... also have the 6 D cell LED..... I put this upgrade in a 4 D Cell Maglite... i put it in the two prong version light which was going out... saved the flashlight.... but should have recycled and bought new... good instructions and you tube video... pricey product and thought it should have been brighter at full power...would buy again, and have two more maglites to update... easiest upgrade is the cree bulb and glass lens ... cost effective as well...

Not as bright as I would have liked... go with the 360 Watt bulb instead
Its a bit brighter than stock; but not super bright. I was a bit disappointed. I initialy went with the 360 watt bulb replacement kit for a third the price; this was BARELY brighter than that.

One of My Best Purchases
Had an old 6 cell Maglite that was currently on the fritz (bulb most likely). Beam was a big nothing anyway for such a large heavy flashlight and my son's Streamlight just smoked this old thing embarrassingly. Got the LED conversion kit, installed it (extremely easily) and it now competes with the Streamlight. So happy that I was able to resurrect this old monster with a beam that is easily about 10 times brighter than the original. Won't devour battery life either being an LED. Thank you Adventure Sport Flashlights.
