Memorex Mi2290 Travel Speaker System with 30-Pin iPod Connector and Carrying Case, Black

I bought this to take on vacation and also bought a male/male audio adapter because previous reviewers complained that they were not able to manipulate the volume controls satisfactorily. The adapter allows you to use the volume control on your iDevices rather than the one on the speaker. While I don't find the volume control on the speaker as horrible as some of the reviewers have said, the adapter really does improve the performance for an extra $2. Overall the speaker is light and small and puts out decent sound at a small price. I'm happy.

This could be so much nicer with a bit more engineering. It has a pretty good sound for the small size, but not too much better than typical laptop speaker sound quality. My two big complaints are 1) the little clock display is way too bright, it lights up a dark room enough to where I can read! And it is only a clock, no alarm (which might have justified the clock). It needs to have a brightness adjustment or option to turn off. Problem 2) is that the volume buttons aren't very fine tuned, each press jumps the volume up/down by a huge margin which makes it impossible to get the volume you really want. I came up with a workaround to this problem, I got a short male-to-male audio cable and plugged one end into the ipod jack and the other end into the line-in jack on the back of the unit. I can now adjust the volume using the ipod volume control in conjunction with the volume control buttons on the unit. At least it does keep the ipod charged.

I have purchased speakers for traveling in the past, and these more than exceeded my expectations. The notion that I can charge my iPod while listening through battery power or while plugged in is fantastic. I also love being able to use my iPod as an alarm (just make sure to leave the speakers on - I leave them plugged in overnight - and set your alarm through your iPod settings). Plus the speakers are a nice size: they have great volume settings but are still compact enough to pack for trips, and they come with a nice travel case. I definitely recommend this set of speakers! They are a little high-priced, but if you keep an eye out you can get a good deal, especially considering all of the features this offers (I cannot tell you how many products I've been close to buying only to find out that they don't even charge the iPod!).

Worked well for a few hours and then failed. Sound quality was good for as long as it worked...returned it.

This product is probably a "get what you pay for" situation. The sound quality is pretty good and I use it in my office and it works okay for that. If you are looking to power an entire room/sound system this obviously isn't your best choice. My biggest problem is with the docking quality. It is SO finicky. I dock my iTouch and it never seats well. Every time I try to change artists, or interface with the iPod at all, it detaches from the system and I have to remove it and re-dock it. Even if I bump my desk too hard it detaches/jiggles and you have to re-dock it. I would say, shop around and find a better quality product- even though the price point is good, it's not worth all the hassle this one has been. The only consolation is I bought this for super cheap on a well-known Group Coupon vendor... (now I see why they were so cheap!)

I was looking for a cheap speaker system for my office... I didn't want to pay a lot, and I wanted something small. This was perfect for my needs: really great price, small, and portable enough for travel. There are a couple of things that I find a little frustrating, though: the first is that the clock is really bright, and the numbers are hard to read unless you're standing over it, and the second is that the volume settings are a little funky. I like to keep the music low enough that nobody can hear it but me, and the it's difficult to get the volume just right. One brief hit to increase the volume makes it a little too loud, but a touch of the volume button to decrease the volume makes it inaudible. It's a minor issue, though, especially when balanced with the cost and portability of this system.The sound quality at loud volumes isn't great, but at this price, I wouldn't expect it to be. This is perfect for travel if you like to listen to your iPod in a hotel room (or on the beach - it runs by battery and AC power).

This is a great little speaker system with decent sound quality as long as you don't touch it while it's playing! My daughter's iTouch fits fine in the dock but if you move the speaker or accidentally brush it, the darn thing stops playing and you have to start it again. Kind of annoying. I do like the fact that you can dock it with or without the cover.I also think it's a little pricey for what you get. I got it before Christmas at a much lower price. I came back to write my review and I'm shocked at how much it is now!

I am so happy with my Travel Speaker! For what I was looking for it goes above and beyond. Plays loud enough that I can hear around the pool but not so loud that the neighbors complain! I love how it folds up and has a travel case! The clock is a nice edition as well! Only downfall that I can think of is that it doesn't work with the iPhone 4 but that is not a concern for me because I don't listen to music on mine. Thank you!!
