Very easy installation! Using since 2011!
If you are considering a wireless alarm contact - this is the only way to go! They are completely hidden when the window is closed and work well in doors. You will need the correct drill bit, which you can get from Home Depot. If you buy one that burns through batteries in a couple of weeks, it's probably defective. This occurs in a very small number of them. They should last a very long time on one battery.

hide your sensors
this sensor worked great, includes everything you need. installed them about 4 months ago and have had 2 alarms with it. what happened those 2 times is i enter the house and the motion sensor picked up my movement before the door sensor sent door open signal. my alarm goes off instantly if it sees movement without a door opened first, that way if someone enters a broken window it doesn't give them a chance to disable alarm, or even get all the way in before the alarm goes off. normally i open the door and have 15 seconds to input code, but not those 2 times.i would still recommend them, you cant see them, and for the 99.99% time they work i like them. both times the delay happened it was the same door, so could be a broken (but not realy broken because it works) sensor

Economical and Easy to Use
I have bought several of these transmitters for our home security system. They work as well as the kind the security company uses and are about half the price. They are easy to install one you figure out the correct way to place the battery and insert the transmitter into the door opening. I wind the plastic "tail" around a screw driver to roll it up before inserting the device into the hole. The instructions that come with the device are helpful. I keep a copy on hand.

great at first / see update in review
working great so far. easy to install. wish communication was bidirectional like the 6 series sensors, but that was the tradeoff for not wanting giant, ugly, visible contact sensors on every window in the houseUPDATE :a few additional observations after having a whole bunch of these for 6 or so years. the install requires drilling holes in your window frames. which is less than awesome. it provides an avenue for additional moisture to get down into the base of the window. and requires extra care to avoid direct spray to windows for example when washing the exterior of your house/windows. over time, with battery changes, the units become subject to water penetration and failure. we generally have to replace a few each year. fair enough, except the price has gone from $35 to $80/ea. if I didn't already have these, I'd search for a different solution.UPDATE 2:These things continue to fail on a regular basis. There is a design flaw in the cap covering the battery which is NOT watertight. So moisture gets in an causes them to fail. And with a house of any size are expensive to continuously be replacing.

Might not work on all windows
These sensors are very easy to install in vinyl windows, and they definitely work as advertised. However, my windows have such tight tolerances between the frame and sash slider, that I can't open my windows farther than the location of the transmitter. I might be able to fix that by recessing the white portion of the transmitter into the vinyl frame, but I'm afraid that I'll simply cut completely through the vinyl and then the transmitter would just fall into the cavity.

Not a Durable Transmitter
I installed my Honeywell alarm system about 3 years ago. The installation included 14 of the 5800 Micra's and 4 of the 5818MNL's.Every winter I replace some of the 5800Micra's which seem very susceptible to the cold spells we sometimes get in Wisconsin.I just ordered 6 of the 5818MNL's to replace the 5800Micra's that failed this winter. I have never had to replace a 5818MNL.The battery life on the 3818MNL is longer, as well. I've only had to replace one of the batteries and they are AAA's rather than the specialty battery required for the 5800Micra.Another bad feature of the 5800Micra is that when you do need to change a battery, it is difficult to separate the white cover from the orange housing.

Not bad
Easy to install and set up, with good instructions for how to drill the proper holes for installation. Beware though that the antenna is fairly long, like 8" or something, and you need to be sure you have space in your window frame to accommodate that length.

Great for doors too!
I didn't like the look of the other sensor that you have to stick on the outside of doors, so I took a gamble and I got these for all my exterior doors. All you need for this is a good Forstner bit (3/4" I think) and you should be good to go. If you don't know what a Forstner bit is you may not want to try to install this yourself. It only takes about 5 minutes to drill out the door and door casing and it's only a small, very shallow hole in the door. It has great range and it has much better battery life than the regular door sensor. I would highly recommend.
