Will these seal in the event of a schrader valve failure?

These valve caps just seal for low pressure, if schrader valve failure, high pressure going out, these can not stop it.

Will these stay black or will they fade out over time

It looks like these are anodized, which would mean they would keep their color for a considerable time. With a dozen even if they didn’t, you could switch them if they begin to fade

These will not rust as they are made of aluminum. The can oxidize so they need to be kept clean and it won't hurt to spray them with some silicone spray once every few months.

what is the red thing inside the valve stem for?

It’s a rubber seal… I would assume it’s there to prevent damage to the top of your valve stem if you over tighten it.
