One hell of a switch for a home network
I picked up the NETGEAR GS724TP-200NAS 24-Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Pro Switch after trying to pick up a used Dell 5324 from a vendor here on Amazon. Needless to say the used Dell didn't work out (because it was DOA) so I picked this switch up and am glad I did. I updated my home network with a new modem (Motorola MB8600) and a new router (Asus RT-AC5300) but needed a switch to bring it all together. I was looking for a smart switch (which this is) that would give me the ability to do ling aggregation, provide POE and VLAN. Well not only does this provide me with those options, it has a whole lot more for me to play with. One of my most favorite things about it is that the gui is very user friendly and allows you to label every port as well as provide drop down menus for almost anything you want to change. As a home user this switch is a bit of overkill right now, but I know that I have room to grow and set things up the way I want. This model does have fans and while they are not as loud as the stock ones that come with the Dell 5324, they are not as quiet as the replacement ones I purchased for it either. I know it has a built in fan curve because they do ramp up during the day when my home office heats up but I have not seen anything that would allow a user to control or change it. As of now I don't have any complaints, the setup, once I got some help from netgear customer support went very quickly and smoothly. If you are not sure if this switch is for you and you have questions I would recommend calling netgear as that is what I did and they were super helpful. I have heard some horror stories about netgear customer support and can honestly say that my experience with them has been outstanding. They answered all of my questions and when I couldn't log into the switch they patiently walked me through how to do it (if your home network is not using .1 in the third octet then you will not be able to access it). Vince, the customer service agent spent more than an hour on the phone with me after my issue was addressed just to help me with the setup of my LAG going to my server, router and modem. In my opinion, if you are an advanced home networker in need of a switch, this is the one you want because of its options, flexibility and the outstanding customer support that comes with it.

excellent product, less than ideal on details of size and performance
The product met the need for my installation. There is only 30 watts per POE+ - but a maximum budget of 55Watts. (this wasn't clear from the marketing - i thought i was getting 55W per port - not that you need that much for any POE+ product, but being "future proof" was part of the reason for purchase.)Major design flaw in my estimation. The power adapter port is in the REAR of the switch, while the ports are in FRONT.The marketing for this product says depth of the product is 4" (perfect fit for my installation was designed w/ 4" depth for switch)The actual depth with the power adapter plugged in : 5 1/2" (too big without changing my installation).I also own the GS408EPP Switch. For me that switch is perfect in performance, size, and function. The only reason i'm replacing it - the fan. It's promoted as 'whisper quiet' at 29dB. Unfortunately, its very loud for my installation - i can hear it with the door closed and all the way into a back room. (Think about as loud as a new refridgerator.) So, i need to replace it.All in all, a fine product. Works as intended - and QUIET! But, now i have to set about re-designing the space to fit it.in light of the odd design (which might work well for some, though), i have to bump it down a notch.

My network switch talks to me!
This is the first time I have ever received a message from a network switch. Or any piece of network equipment for that matter. This switch tells me when it reboots itself, and it tells me that everything is fine, thank you. And, it's always been fine. (And it was easy to set up, too) What does YOUR network say to you?

default behavior may result in port shutdowns.
This review is for the GS110TPv3 model. This is going into a home with eeros and Sonos. There is some default behavior in the switch that is pretty awful.By default, if a loop packet is ever seen once, that ethernet port will get shut down forever (or until the switch is power cycled). With my eeros and sonos doing mesh-like things, there is a time where the devices are trying to figure out the topology. The netgear instead by default will shut down any looping port on me, and there is no way to get the ports back, without either power cycling the ports, or by logging in.This is exactly what features such as Spanning Tree were designed to prevent, and instead the netgear takes the approach of shut the port down forever (a terrible idea). The webgui, also, does not reliably DHCP, so make sure to use the 192.168.0.239 IP for configuration. The mandatory device registration is also aggravating, as features are gated around activating the switch. For me, I went and did the following things:- registered- Updated to latest firmware.- Enabled STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) in RSTP mode. (moved from disabled)- Set L2 loop detection to 30 second recovery. (moved from infinite)- Set LLDP TX and RX on all ports (helpful in troubleshooting). And now the switch seems to be behaving the way i would expect.I did not use the cloud product.

Not a managed switch if you do not have it connected and pay the fee
If are willing to pay for insight cloud service (lol, for a switch!) - you can do all it promised, VLAN, LAG, QoS.If your switch is not connected to the internet; or if you are not willing to pay for the subscription - it is worse than a dumb switch. The screenshot I attached to this review is what you get in terms of management. You cannot even edit users. And if there is more than you access the network - everyone can access the device with the default password. Yes, you cannot even change the default password!Full disclosure - you might be able to hack your way through a text config download/upload, I didn't try. It is not a web managed switch in that case anyway.

Great POE switch, Great support from NETGEAR
First of all, I'm new to this...This is my first POE switch after extensive research on inexpensive, yet comprehensive unit. All ports are bi-directionals, which is great for any customization.Despite being a managed switch, connecting this unit to all my LAN peripherals was automatic and seamless, without any needs for extra manual settings. Of course, once I read the manual, I did take advantage of the full control on this unit, to tweak it to my liking.I needed half of the ports, but save myself some room for future projects. The unit is slightly noisy due the cooling fans. I'm not too concern, since the unit is in the basement.NETGEAR tech support over the phone was excellent, when I needed to hook this up to my Internet router and wireless access point. Because of the rapid support, my rating for NETGEAR got the extra 5th star.I cannot comment on durability, since I got this switch for only few weeks. But so far, so good.

Good features for the price
Good features for the price. Works great if your home or office has lots of access points, IP cameras, VoIP phones, etc. Dedicated SFP uplinks are nice.No L2+ features, the product branding is a little confusing. Fan is noisy if you plan on having it in a public/living space. Looks ugly AF. Web GUI is not the greatest.PROTIP: Assigning a port as untagged access to a VLAN does not change the PVID for that port ... you need to do that manually in a separate tab. Keep that in mind before you change the management VLAN and lock yourself out of the GUI like I did!

Fan is too loud
The deal breaker for me is the loud fan. I had this in the utility closet and I could still hear the fan in the next room over. The other specs look great but I couldn’t get over how loud it runs.
