Workbenches Revised Edition

Compre este libro por que estoy en el proceso de iniciarme en la carpintería como hobbie, buscando vídeos en Internet sobre como construir bancos de trabajo me encontré con vídeos que te dicen cono construir paso a paso tu banco de carpintero Y en uno de ellos el autor se refiere a este libro como su guía. Yo lo he revisado todo y es un libro de alta calidad en su elaboración, está perfectamente detallado e ilustra la construcción de 4 tipos de bancos de trabajo diferentes, todos muy robustos y con precios de construcción bastante asequibles. El autor es un carpintero que va por el mundo construyendo bancos y enseñando a construir . Recomiendo ampliamente este libro

Probably the bible for workbench building. The new edition has extra workbench plans and designs that weren't covered before.Schwarz wrote the red book after this one. There are other workbench books, but they are not as beloved as this one. Keep in mind, Schwarz has an opinion, and often times he will write with that in mind. ie, this is not an encyclopedia, although a large section of it is reference. It's more of a walkthrough than anything else, really, and should be read cover-to-plans, and then rifle through the plans until you find what you like.He does a great job of explaining what makes each bench tick (in the original it's just the English-style or Nicholson-style workbench and the French-style or Roubo-style workbench; the English is really a bench you build quickly and can leave behind, the Roubo is more of a lifetime investment).There is a very large section (maybe ~25% of the book) that explains workholding methods and breaks it down two ways -- first, a guide on what each workholding method IS (what is a face vise? a holdfast? what are the different vises for?) and then a guide on how to solve almost every common problem ("using a hand plane on the face of a board", "cross-cut sawing", "rip-cut sawing", "mortising", etc).You probably don't *need* this book but I would strongly suggest it to anyone who works with hand tools. We are more susceptible to failure from poor workholding. But power tool users -- there are plenty of tips in there that will make you reconsider a solid-core door on sawhorses. No matter how you work, good workholding will help immeasurably, and the time taken to build a bench is a pittance compared to the time lost on bad form and posture and sliding pieces.

As always, Chris Schwartz fun to read, detailed and researched content. This book took my wonderful workbench to the ultimate next level. This guy has built something like 50 workbenches over the years, he knows exactly what he’s talking about!

Excelente libro, ampliamente recomendado para quien desea investigar sobre el diseño de bancos de trabajo para madera y tener bases para diseñar el propio. Incluye bocetos de varios modelos de bancos.
